Honestly, a really underappreciated aspect of Ishmael's story is the irony in it. She left her job at U Corp to live a fulfilling life she herself has control over, only to join Captain Ahab and sail directly towards the opposite of it. There is a lot of correlations that can be drawn between their relationships and the way Whales parasite humans in PM's world, beginning with replacing all of their thoughts and everything they know with the Whale's and completely taking away any control the people have over their own lives prior to become mermaids. And in a sense, Captain Ahab is much like a whale in how she aims for Ishmael to become a complete carbon copy of herself, throwing any prior feelings or thoughts away and becoming driven by spite and vengeance like her. And I think the irony in all of this and how Captain Ahab basically recreates the way Whales make Mermaids with Ishmael is a really beautiful and underappreciated aspect not a lot of people talk about Great video btw :)
Mobydick is genuinely amongst the greatest quote-providers of fiction. I unironically want to recite Ahab's final monologue upon my deathbed, in a final display of free will and as a testament to... whatever obsession may plague me in my final years.
Happy to see another Ishmael enjoyer. She is actually what made me keep playing limbus (Rodion and Outis also might have played a part in that). Also here's a funny a coincidence: Heatcliff and Ishmael shenanigans reminds me a lot of the average conversation i have with a friend of mine. Said friend's favourite sinner is, as you might have guessed, Heatcliff.
This is why I love the City I live in. Our world applauds plastic relationships, and the City itself mirrors that reality. Yes, the stories and pains of the Sinners - these incredible foils of human hope dirtied by their human failures - are able to reflect the worst of us. But to see them rise above their “unforgivable sins”, to ascend to a better place where they can carry that weight forward until it passes on… That’s the modern evolution of the Heroic Journey that we NEED to hear.
Genuinely phenomenal video Ishmael why not my favorite of the sinners is definitely up there you can probably tell who my favorite and i have to say canto 5 and Compass hild alot of meaning fir me as it gave me the courage to help cut some toxic people out of my life that probably would have driven me to the point of what ahab made Ishmael become Also i hope you make more limbus videos atleast eventually cause like i said this is phenomenal work Anyhow enjoy canto 6 and 7
HELL YEAH ISHY VIDEO yeah her story is. really fucking good. and i honestly get it all as well with my own experiences but this ain't about me. I'm just happy to see ishmael's story bring joy and hope for one more person. for she shines...just like the sunset. may you sail onwards with the guide of your own compass--and for everyone else, too. also the use of whales in ish's story is so fucking cool.
Beautiful video. It takes a lot of courage to open up like this, even to random people on the internet lol. Though I would say Yi Sang is my favorite character whom I relate to the most, Ishmael is a fantastic character who anybody could relate to in some way. Also damn I forgot how amazing 4.5's art was... I miss Vellmori. I hope she can do art for Limbus again or other PM works in the far future
@@kingskookum3895 Why get therapy when making a youtube video is free? Jokes aside thank you so much, I love Yi Sang as well. I love his passion for inventions and ideality, it inspires me a lot. I also love Vellmori's art so so much
I really relate to her a lot especially since the canto came out during a tough time with my friends the timing of the canto’s release and especially when compass came out kinda help me to calm down Great analysis btw
Some spoilers for Canto 5/Moby Dick, not too bad tho. Not gonna lie, I feel like a lot of people can relate to both Ishmael's (from the book and game), as you mentioned in the video, Ishmael from the novel is talented, well-learned, etc, yet he never commits to anything or tries to get attention. He simply exists to narrate the story of Captain Ahab, who, upon being introduced, is the clear MC of Moby Dick. I feel like a lot of students (like me :p) can relate to that Ishmael, ones who are without a path and only do what they are told. Much in the same vein, Ishmael from the game was like Ishmael from the novel, getting good grades and getting a job at U corp, only to crave adventure, then finding Captain Ahab, who eventually leads to her crew's demise. This sets Ishmael on a path of revenge, not just for Queequeg, but for the rest of the Pequod as well. As stated in the video, she lives and breaths only for this purpose. She pushes people away, thinking that she's the one suffering the most. In the story dungeon, she becomes a second Ahab, and she doesn't even realize it. It takes people around her to pull her out of this rut. People can have multiple Ahab's thoughout their lives, and, as you said, people wanna take revenge on people who have hurt them. Yet, Ishmael finds something to hold onto, eventually finding her new compass in life. TL;DR, People can relate to both Ishmael's, and honestly, I learned a lot from both. (sidenote: Moby Dick goes into a lot of side tangents, which, while relevant to Ishmael's background as a intelligent person, don't add much to this story, unless you wanna learn about whales) I wanna keep writing but also this comment is too long, also not very good, i basically condensed an essay i wrote on moby dick & Ishmael here. Great vid btw.
Ahh i wonder how you would react to Don Quixote's Canto (Story). I swear Limbus Company stories are so good, really makes you cry and feel a lot of emotions. Gregor's fear of what he became, Rodya's dream of a perfect world, Sinclair's regret and indifference which led to his demise, Yi sang's ideal reflection, and Ishmael's... Ishmael's vengence and revenge "on that bastard", Heathcliff's love for ⬜⬜⬜⬜⬜.
She is no reaper reaper, but her story is still 🌕sublime🌕 "Maybe madness & illness are the only way to remain human under capitalism & maybe total "sanity" under capitalism is a sign of soul death" THIS IS FIRE. Ways through the madness are often painful and tragic.
