      I think he knows it's a running gag. He did a bit on tobogganing on TV a few years back when he said "small children and people who worry about their brains should always wear a helmet" while wearing a toque, and the last step is getting your roadie to run the toboggan back up the hill. 🤣

    I love mine! I always loved the Geddy sound, but this takes that sound and adds what I want to accomplish and I got what I've always wanted! I either run it directly through my board and through the monitors, run it through a small mixer on, and run it through my bass amp (zeroed out), or I simply run it through a power amp through my cabs. Ta da! I love it! My compliment is a VT bass that I use when I'm not using the GED. AWESOME!!

      If your bass amp has an effects loop, run the SansAmp into the Effects Return. That should send the signal straight to the power section of the amp and bypass the amp's EQ.

    Boy, how I would like to spend a day in that room to play all those fantastic basses from Geddy’s magnificent collection. (His Big Beautiful Book of bass is a true gem) He’s one of my greatest bass heroes and i’ve been a Rush fan since the early days. I always liked him as person as well. An easy going, humble, intelligent guy who loves music and lives for it! I hope he may enjoy a long happy life with his friends and family but also hope for new music from his fingers.

    As a mix engineer I gotta say we love to have a Sansamp crunch combined with a 2nd channel of pure clean di (no crunch) but have the channels crossover at like 230hz or so. (Clean di is 230 and below, and crunch is 230 and above). This device is literally that in one box and even has separate outputs! This device must be the best bass di you could possibly have.

    The GED-2112 is brilliant! I just bought one, and I'll be using it in my live rig, which consists of a Crest CA9 stereo power amp and a pair of Mesa Powerhouse 212s.
    I've been playing live since the early 80s and I've always used a clean tone, my variation of John Paul Jones' Led Zeppelin bass tone with zero effects pedals.
    I've always admired John Entwistle, Chris Squire, and Geddy Lee for their unique sounds, with a bit of "grind" on top, but each also had/has a solid low end going on, and I could never figure out how I could do that live, without running two separate amps.
    In in my setup's case, I'd have to use 2 different preamps, simultaneously, one providing clean, and the other providing a bit of crunch.
    The GED-2112 allows me to have crunch and clean from a single rackspace. I wish Andrew and Geddy would've developed this 10 years ago! It's absolutely genius.
    Thank you Tech 21!!!

    Chris Squire played a jazz bass on some songs on going for the one. I also believe he played an old p-bass on some songs from time and a word. No matter what he played people always seemed to think it was a Rick.

      The Telecaster bass - basically a reissue of the original Precision - is all over Time And A Word and The Yes Album. Chris modified it for stereo output like his Rick so it certainly sounds similar, but it's fatter, a bit more raw.

    I’ve been using the SansAmp RPM for a studio preamp on occasion and it’s really flexible. I like mixing the two channels clean and dirty for a few things, but even on clean tracks it lets the top end cut through and pop out while leaving a track unaffected. I use a compressor and amp sim on the XLR out, and usually an ampeg 4x10 cab sim. Even when recording direct, I often assign two tracks, one for bump, and one for bite.

    • @TruthSurge
      @TruthSurge 5 років тому +4

      Then why is he using a particular amp if he can get the same sound with ANY amp? Answer: tone is only PARTIALLY about how you play. MOSTLY about the equipment. STYLE and NOTE CHOICE is ALL the player and not any of the equipment except a hair of inspiration from the tone coming from the equipment. If it sounds good, he'll actually play better. You'd know all of this if you actually played instead of parroting the same erroneous BS everyone does on musician vids.

    • @warptek

      George Potsos True. I could dial in my sound on almost any amp with some tinkering. The reason he uses what he uses it's because there's no tinkering, just dial it in and you're done. It's about efficiency.

    i saw you guys twice in Wisconsin ... the Permanent Waves Tour was, i think, the 4th or 5th arena concert i went to, i had all the albums up until then, and it still totally blew me away ( both with double necks doing the Hemispheres stuff...same place for the Moving Pictures Tour ( and i had that album by then also ) i was stage right by your hand, over by Alex when his guitar lit up and he stepped out with his short hair ( but the change melted into the music, and that rocked too ) ... i hope you both are finding enough free time to acclimate to losing Neil, stuff like that takes awhile to work through, and never totally lets up but in one moment or another, but it becomes part of the quiet inbeetweens...it's tempering, that's life.
