  • Ever since I shared the video of Ken coming to pick out some huge colonies out of my main display to go into his newly setup 4+ meter long reef, I have been inundated with requests to do a video touring his tank. So here it is!
    Ken is one of the best characters in this hobby and seeing him showcase the project that he is super passionate about is something to behold.
    There has been little expensive spared in this build and it shows, but like all reefers - Ken still has some hurdles to overcome. See what you think about his dilemma and what you'd suggest to fix it

      yes i was thinking the same , those power bricks and power bar above the tank make me nervous , i have my Kessils about 10 inches off my tank and they get covered in small droplets just from the water movement alone, so if a fish splashed it could be trouble, also the moisture up there can slowly corrode the outlets causing them to short circuit possibly causing fires. Other than that OMG what on amazing new system! he must be so excited!

    What an awesome tank, cant wait to see it grow out. For more flow what about running a couple of big gyres on the back wall vertically and having the flow crash into each other. They could be hidden behind the rock piers at either end and that would make them easy to service

    • @ParkersReef
      @ParkersReef  4 роки тому +1

      yeah I should have got Ken to explain where the tape needed to go as it shouldn't have to go on the regulator???

    • @hatrik2910
      @hatrik2910 4 роки тому

      @@ParkersReef I was wondering the same myself. My Reg (Tunze) has a gasket which seals against the CO2 bottle outlet. However, when I first attempted to attach the regulator, I noticed there was a small fitting (basically a brass grub screw) inside the CO2 bottle outlet which had an inhex socket (for allen key) and a tiny orifice in the centre to restrict gas outflow. This orifice fitting was not screwed in far enough and did not allow the regulator fitting to go far enough in to squash the gasket. I screwed the grub screw in further which allowed the gasket to be squashed to effectively seal. Might not be the problem Ken had but would be interested to know. I didn't use any Teflon on mine, and no leaks. I tested for leaks by opening the main cylinder valve to let pressure into the reg, sealed off all reg outlets then closed the main cylinder valve trapping pressure in the regulator, then left overnight and looked for any change on the gauges (change = leak).

    Hi Sam, been following your channel for a while now and excitedly wait for your new build to complete. Just noticed neither the tattoo tank or this one has a refugium. What do you think is the best method for nitrate control? Refugium or Chemical? Asking as I have seen you run both algae and Sulphur reactor on your system

    • @ParkersReef
      @ParkersReef  4 роки тому +1

      I prefer sulphur for nitrate removal, but if you have room for a large refugium - that is ideal for both nitrate in phosphate (in my opinion) anyway.
      New tank will run a large fuge

    An MP60 on each of the side walls and three MP 40's on the back wall in lagoon mode would give you tons of random flow. Hopefully there would be room for the dry side. That wasn't really evident from the fish room tour. Amazing tank though. I really like the overhang rock work. Looks like it is defying gravity.

    • @ParkersReef
      @ParkersReef  4 роки тому

      yeah the dry side space is going to be an issue, if you could fit a dry side in, I think it would have to go on the back wall only. Those MP60's certainly provide some flow though :D
