Industrial Bench Seat - FORME INDUSTRIOUS

  • I have been away from my workshop for a few months and I'll explain the reasons in an upcoming video. So, in some spare time I made this Bench Seat. The structure also lends itself to being a Coffee Table, or on a larger scale a Dining Table. This is I'm pretty sure is my longest video. I really wanted to capture the amount of work that goes into the build (lots). Also I wanted to show a couple of silly experiments I did to bend the angle. Please be safe when you are working, I often do things for effect in the video that are under controlled circumstances.
    The dimension of this build can be made to whatever scale you like to suit your own needs.
    For the finish I used Penetrol which is a sealer. Originally I wanted to paint the project Orange and have darker wood, hence I burnt the surface of the wood. I changed my mind and went with the clear coat, and with that I would rather have the original appearance of the timber - natural. Oh well. The timber is Queensland Maple.
    How long did it take to build? It was all part time, here and there so I don't really know sorry.
    I'd like to thank everyone for watching and I'd love to see you in the comments. All the best. Regards
    Scott.
    Special thanks to MASSO Cnc Controllers for sponsoring this video. My CNC operates using the MASSO and it has truly made all the difference to the performance of the machine.

      Hard to cram it all in sometimes in a shorter version and the video gets on the longish side. But if it works it works. Thank you Bernie!!

    I recently found your channel and have binge watched all your videos. You’re very talented and I love the style and craftsmanship. You’ve inspired me to try my hand at building/making. So far I’ve only started with building my work bench and refurbishing my vise. But, who knows where I’ll go from there. Thanks for all your effort, knowledge and quality videos. Wishing you and your family all the best from California.
    Cheers!

    If you want to bend angle irons you should heat the flange that makes the vertical face of the arch, and then strike it with a straight peen hammer or blunted cold chisel snugged up to the inside corner. It's amazing how precisely you can control the curvature without any deflection or twist.

    • @ScottTurnerformeindustrious
      @ScottTurnerformeindustrious  5 років тому +1

      Thank you for the tips! I have bought a forge kit for just that reason, except I hope to place the heated angle over a form and stretch the flange. It will experiment a few different techniques. I really appreciate you feedback!
