      @@bv12ringer You don't understand how a dovetail works if you think that having some play when the set screw isn't locked down is a problem... Mathews made the cutout so the major sight manufacturers sights would all fit into the pocket. Black Gold is the biggest dovetail and obviously they were ok leaving them out, maybe because they are owned by Bowtech... If you look at the cutout in the riser, it is not a typical dovetail cutout. The one side is actually a radius so no matter the dovetail shape, it will work as long as it fits in the pocket, hits the flat on one side and the round on the other side. Mathews is not going to machine a different riser for every single sight dovetail on the market just so each bar fits snug, which is a complete moot point.

      Black gold will make one soon to fit it I have a feeling because they are a top quality Bow sight manufacturer ( in my opinion one of the Best If not the Best ) no matter who owns them ..

    Thanks for the info. A way to make this video even more useful would be to mount them and determine which of the sights have enough lateral movement to actually be sighted in, granted that position will be slightly different for everybody based on how much they torque the bow but a general idea would be good. I'm guessing most of the sights off the shelf right now will be aweful close bottoming out on windage movement to the right. I get it though, that would take a lot of time.... time is money. Also in the short term you ought to just get some black gold dovetails milled liked you did that one and sell them for a premium!

    One thing being missed that I’ve run into is the issue with scope alignment. By bringing the mount inside the riser, your scope will have to be able to run much tighter in than normal. I have had several scopes bottom out and not work on some bars.

    The dovetail fitment issue isn't the only, or even biggest issue I've encountered so far... (at least for more target-oriented sights) Because the mounting point is now offset by an inch more than they were designed for, some sights cannot set enough windage to get to center shot. Example - the CBE Elevate and B3 Exact with a 32mm scope, can't get over enough due to interference with the windage armature. (Specifically using a UV3, CBE VTX 32, or Axcel AV-31) The HoggFather with a UV3 can, just barely. I understand that the Landslyde will work (If you can find one).

    • @GBBLGBL
      @GBBLGBL 2 роки тому

      This is exactly what I was going to comment with. This is a huge issue. I have the Landslyde in my 29 but have to swap out my 41mm UV3XL for the standard 31mm UV3 dues to the fact I don't have enough windage with any 41mm scope. The AV-31 fits also. This is with my center shot set at "0" on my integrated rest which is exactly 13/16"

    • @bv12ringer
      @bv12ringer 2 роки тому

      Wow this is either a huge blunder on Mathew’s R&D dept or it’s just plain arrogance to think to redesign a bow so that a majority of the accessories on the market won’t work and the buyer will have to purchase all new proprietary accessories. I am being forced to consider a V3 or another brand bow.

    • @markeithhost
      @markeithhost 2 роки тому +1

      @@bv12ringer Irritating, yes.... but I would not go so far as to characterize it that way... it really only impacts 'target' sights of a specific design. And they classify the v3x as a hunting bow, TRX is the target line. And design-wise, it really does have an impact on the balance of the bow with the weight of the sight moved to the centerline.

    All dovetails should be the same size like all picatinny rails are.

  • @asahunt4316
    @asahunt4316 2 роки тому +7

    I don’t think it matters that the smaller dovetail bars have more “play” when first inserted into the riser. The design of the cutout locks different size bars against the flat back part of the cutout and into the bottom curved portion of the cutout. Pretty innovative.
    The set screw applies downwards/lateral force into the top angled portion of the dovetail (which pushes it flush against the back and down into the curved portion. As long as the bar fits into the riser and is a trapezoidal shape it should lock in place (the smaller bars will just have a larger void above the bar, AKA set screw will need to be inserted deeper to lock the bar into the bottom of the cutout). In my opinion, it would be more beneficial to do a video confirming that the different bars that seem to have more “play” actually lock-in as well as the Axcel. This video doesn’t seem to acknowledge the cutout shape design.

    • @roryrohrer7640
      @roryrohrer7640 2 роки тому

      I was thinking the same thing, I am actually going to get either the CX-5 or the CBE hybrid sight for my VX3 29 and would love to see them locked in.
      Also another problem I heard was popping up was the these dove tails that weren't specifically designed for the v3x didn't have enough windage to the right to sight in. I forget which company it was I think it was a landslide the had to make an adapter to allow for more windage adjustment

    Even though I have the new V3X I gotta say Hoyt definitely has the edge with the picatiny rail Mount system because that’s more of a standard Mount even for firearms. You could probably even Mount lights etc on it. Just IMAGINE all the accessory possibilities Hoyt will have with the picatiny system.
    Mathews definitely took the L on the bridge site system because there doesn’t seem to be an industry standard across all brands AND I’ve seen reports that some sights bottom out when trying to adjust sight far enough right as they were engineered before this system.
    Mathews got an edge with the SAS system but Hoyt wins on sight mounting (IMO)

    I just bought the Mathews V3X 29” bow and after the hanskae rest and everything I was put on a budget so I ended up getting the Rocky Mountain single pin dovetail site and it does fit. It fit snug to because at first I didn’t think it would slide through because of the paint. But yes the Rocky Mountain does fit. After shooting the rocky mountain single pin site I would say it’s one of my least favorite but for hunting it works. I figured I would let everyone know. After watching this video it’s kind of funny that the cheapest site of the dovetails fit the best because I’m serious when I say it’s tight. Lol. Hope this helps.

    Also to clarify Mathews includes a special set screw that bolts tightly to the dovetail so no matter how looses a site may be the set screw tightens it down really nice so there is no play. I have yet to have a problem with the scope alignment because of how close to the riser the site is. This bow shoots really nice. This is my first Mathews I’ve ever owned and I will say I will never shoot another bow. It’s seriously a beast and dead accurate. There is no vibration and it’s super quiet. It was worth every penny spent.

    The problem Iv been seeing that the dovetail isn’t the problem. The problem is that most of the sight aren’t made to go that far left. I had to take my hog father all the way to the left and it just barley made it. When I say left I mean my scope housing. I have my scope housing almost touching the dovetail tail lol.

    • @roryrohrer7640
      @roryrohrer7640 2 роки тому

      I believe another sight company had to make adapter to move the housing a few mm to allow for full zeroing and still have ability to used the windage.

    • @brycepick
      @brycepick 2 роки тому

      Yes many sights won't have enough adjustment, or they will just barely have enough. Many sight companies are in the process of making tweaks or adapters so their sights will be more compatible and not maxed out just to barely get sighted in.

    It’s official, Lancaster Archery is great but MFJJ is better as far as getting right too the Forensic details of archery. Dumb question, since I’m in Michigan, if I wanted to buy a complete new bow set up through your shop, and I gave you all of my actual dimensions ie ,draw length , poundage, total arrow weight, could you get my bow setup and packaged and sent to me in the off season ready to paper tune, sight in, then broadhead tune? I know it sounds stupid but there are quite a few hack shops here in Michigan. I can do the dialing in, I just need it to be in the ball park when delivered. Shops in Michigan can really be arrogant and pushy. It’s simple to me, I hunt Whitetails and turkeys at 40 yards or closer. Don’t need a out west Elk setup, or a long range antelope setup. Thanks for your great videos. 🏹🦌🇺🇸
