  • The QE2, the most famous ocean liner in the world, now has a new home in Dubai. And a new life as a floating hotel. Bigger than Titanic, she’s transported rockstars and royalty, and sailed over 6 million miles, circumnavigating the Globe 25 times before she was retired. Hotel QE2 has now been open in Dubai for just under two years. She’s a little bit of Britain fighting her corner in the world’s toughest hotel market. With a multi-million pound refurbishment ongoing, and a new team at the helm, will it be sink or swim for Hotel QE2?

Music is too loud. Good editing but the music volume is a distraction.

A video project of this size should have had a competent sound editor. In many places the background audio track overwhelms the narrative. The subject is good, the story well presented, but it needs to have an audio remix to put it right.

Wow. She's beautiful. When I go on my cruises, I always go a couple of days before my cruise, and I stay on the Queen Mary 1, which is right across from the ship I cruise on and it's absolutely beautiful. I wish I could see the QE2.

I went from watching a documentary about street children in Manila, to watching this. Half way through I had to stop watching. I think it's obscene that we have such contrasts between lives on this planet (((

The music and some foreground talking drowned out the narrator. It was a shame since this was in interesting video but I couldn't follow much of the dialog.

I was lucky enough to sail on the QE2 with my parents in 2003 when I was just 17 and become one of her only 2.5 million passengers!!! It was a Norwegian Fjords voyage & was so memorable. I had one of the best steaks I've ever had. I met and had a photo with Captain Ian McNaught (who later became captain on her final voyage!). I remember looking out of the window one night and we were so far North it was dark, but I could weirdly see both the sun and the moon in the sky, and dolphins swimming alongside the ship. I still have my certificate for singing on karaoke :-p

Someone mentioned that the QE2 should have stayed in the UK instead of going to Dubai. A similar comment under a vid about the Queen Mary (1934) mentioned it should be in the UK, not the US. However, tougher weather going back to 1967 (when the QM was retired, right around the time the QE2 was launched) would have worn out the ship even faster. As for the QE2 (1967), it lacks the old-time charm & history of an older liner. The QE1 (1938) would have made more sense as a converted hotel. But it caught on fire in 1972. The only other ship that would have worked better as a hotel & museum would be the SS Normandie (1932), which was from France, not the UK. It was decked out like a 1930s movie palace. That would have wowed visitors in Dubai. But as with the QE1, the Normandie in 1942 also burned down.

I gotta say the claim of it being "the most famous ocean liner in the world" is quite the claim lol. Considering even people visiting said ship today compare it to "looking like the Titanic." Which should say something about the actual "most famous ocean liner in the world." Not to take away from the history of the QE2 but the Titanic simply holds that title bar none. Everyone knows what the Titanic is.

The "Background-Music" is not at all background, it disturbs the understanding of the narrative and this is really a bad sign.

It makes me a trifle sad to see such a venorable British icon find her final resting place in such a debauched and heathen place as Dubai. The whole video was worth watching, however, just to meet that wonderful fellow who used to serve aboard the ship and is now conducting tours on it.

A city that was built with slave labor. The Dubai government brought in poor from impoverished countries. They promised them good wages, safe working environment and lodging while there. What happen is that they took their passports when they got there. Didn't pay them, and if they did, they charged them for there housing. Many workers owed them money, even if they're working 12- 14 hours day, 7 days a week. And this is all encouraged by the Dubai government. That whole place is built on blood. A terrible place run by terrible people.
