- In this lesson we take a look at how we can import raster data and then merge them together to make them a little more manageable.
The data in these lessons was originally downloaded from: dds.cr.usgs.gov/srtm/ but it's a bit of a difficult to navigate so I've also made it available to download here (www.dmad.org.tr/qgis-2-lesson-9). DMAD do not own this data nor have we created it.
Thank you!
Another great lesson, thanks!
Fun fact: The way it ended, sounded like you were suddenly taken by a wave!
Hi Maria, Thanks for your kind words! I wish I was that close enough to the sea for that to be a possibility!
Is it possible to cut/crop the merged raster so it doesnt show the completely black part (as in you video in the bottom right corner)? Thanks for the video btw.
Hi @Jeppe, so because it has merged the files it creates an area equal to the extent of the layer so there is no way to "get rid of it" per se but here are 3 methods to overcome it: 1) this area of black will have a single no data value, so if you find that value then you can right click on the layer, click properties and then use that value as the transparency value, 2) if you go to the raster tab at the top, then extraction, then clip raster by mask layer and use the vector outline of the country as the mask. 3) Just find that raster grid cell as well so you have all the data in the square. Hope this helps!
Sorry maybe the title has to be "how to combine" i thought i can be abble for fusion dataset
The merging didn't work for me and your video doesn't explain what you did to counteract the error...
Hi Debbie, please can you expand with more details? The first thing I would suggest is to make sure that all your rasters are in the same UTC format and that your project is also in the same UTC format.
@@dmadmarinemammalsresearcha3966 I have done this, it’s when you click run. Similarly in the video you explain how it didn’t work and then it did work for you but you didn’t explain what you had done or what to do if doesn’t run?
@@jacksutton3772 Hi Jack. The error I've had previously is that it won't merge them all at the same time and so I just had to run it in smaller blocks e.g. merge 4, then merge the other 3 and then merge those two blocks afterwards. Hope this helps!
@@dmadmarinemammalsresearcha3966 I am still struggling to get it to work. I have reinstalled QGIS, I have ensure that the UTM is the same in the project as the raster layers and vector layers and nothing works. It just keeps saying error...
@@dmadmarinemammalsresearcha3966 How do you make sure everything is the same UTC format? I have tried googling and researching but can't find anything...
