some people think that Jazz is an automatic free ticket to make harmonic and other melodic, non chordal errors. Seems like kind of an excuse for not really being able to negotiate the changes at the meter played. Some jazz musicians did in fact play a lot of non chordal notes, but because of the depth of their playing and skill at which they added non chordal linear playing, were given the latitude to do so as they knew exactly what they were doing and why they were doing it (playing those notes). Others are just making mistakes and connecting them together is a semblance of a solo. This lady doesn't really delve into non harmonic or non chordal material untill the third chorus of her solo. Much of her non chordal stuff is chromatic, which in many schools is thought to be acceptable. The pianist is a whole other story. He is out there, and not really justifying his non harmonic content. Not sure I agree that she is making harmonic errors.
Maiko, You played this piece so brilliantly. D id you train in Suzuki method when you were a child? Becca Bear, how do you play this in "jazz". I would like to hear you play your jazz version of this in violin.
Pleasant to listen to... but she doesn't have the skill to build and create real and nice jazz phrases during improv. She has to fill the gaps with effect sounds, but jazz isn't that.... you have to say something when building jazz phrases. In my opinion , she doesn't have that skill. Very good guitar and piano though. ( Don't get me wrong , violin is very good too but out of context)
Sorry; but this is just very bad - no ideas, no time, no violin technique.. better go cookin in cheap sushi muck shop..:) pn and git. are good though, i wonder why they play with her.. maybe some other qualities..
