I HAVE AN 87 TOYOTA MR2 THAT RUNS PERFECT BUT ANYTIME I WANT TO DRIVE IT I HAVE TO ADD HALF A QT.I KNEW THAT IT NEEDED THIS SEAL,BUT YOU JUST TOOK A DIFFICULT JOB AND MADE IT LOOK SIMPLE AND EASY.I THINK IM READY TO TRY IT.I LEAVE A PUDDLE IN EVERY PARKING SPOT I GO TO SO MY WHOLE TOWN THANKS YOU.
for that one, try a bottle of AT 205 reseal in the engine oil, it can seal em since you already had it changed, it may not be too cracked. Amazon sells the stuff, it can be hard to find
you put the crank on the top dead center mark, and pray that's right. if not, turn the engine one more rotation around. Set the dist to point at number one spark plug position when you have it set up
you lock the flywheel with a special tool, or in this case just tighten it in gear cause it was a standard transmission. Can't do that with an automatic though
lifters on those are VERY weak, but have the battery tested and the starter and replace either if bad, that can cause slow cranking. But if they are OK, then your engine is just flat wearing out with worn timing chain and other internal parts.
The good news is my Ranger is still under warranty.. 100 dollar Deductable and they can have at it! Nice video ..Love your humor..Ya know your stuff plus you saved many a lot of money! Thx
often worn bearings do lower pressure like that, but realize any worn engine oil passageways can drop oil pressure. Pretty much educated guesswork when taking the engine apart until you start measuring everything. that's what plastigauge is for
Found this video looking for info on how to replace a CAT C-13 crankshaft seal. Left with some decent (unrelated) knowledge and thoroughly entertained. Liked and subbed. Love the grunts.
I took my car to a commercial auto repair shop. They said they couldn’t find the leak and advised me to take it to the dealership for repairs. My girlfriends dad took a look at it and immediately knew to replace the crank shaft seal. No more oil leak.
tons of things can do that, so first, have the battery load tested, places like auto zone do that free. As can a weak starter, which can also be load tested.
Hey cool to see this vid, i just a couple of days ago changed mine on my Peugeot 205 from 1990 But it was the seal behind the flywheel so i had to get the gearbox, starter, gear linkage, clutch, driveshafts and flywheel off before i could get to it. Quitte a fun job to do, it took my about a day together with a buddy of mine. Greetings from Holland and keep up the good work.
unplug the electrical connection at the AC compressor clutch that supplies it power. Then it can't run, and if the problem stops, compressor is weak or AC system has internal blockage
ok!! Thanks!!! Set the labor up for first week in august. One other question. My air conditioner isn't working properly. I recently charged it to the proper level, but it still is blowing like it's restricted. It isn't as cold as it should be. When I'm driving with the ac on the car bucks. It's strange. I also noticed that the fan runs constantly when the ac is on too, not sure if that's normal or not. Any guesses as to what's going on?? A friend said it sounds like a vacuum leak.

you made that seal change look so easy, i'm sure it is, haven't done one on that make yet, but i was wondering, when you tightened the crank bolt back on, what were you using to keep the crank from turning. i understood the loosening, but with out locking the flywheel i'm tying to understand how you got the bolt tight. you mentioned taking the rad out to use the impact gun, usually when i do them i go that way for loosening and tightening, makes it easier in a way.
I've seen a van that got my attention. I do like it, but it has a ticking sound. But everything else work just fine. What can the ticking doing be? Should I buy it or not?
depends on how it was taken care of. Just don't pay much for one with that kind of mileage on it, things will break being that old. They are decent cars for the most part.
hey scotty i done everything u have to offer on ur video regardling my nissan 2003 altima rpm going up and down and i done some research online do u think i might have to take my car to the nissan dealer to get a idle relearn???
as tight as I could get it. And often you can put some locktite bolt sealer on the end, then quick tighten it and that will set it tight so it won't come off.
hi Scotty! I have a squeaky accessory belt on my 1996 ford windstar. I already replaced the belt, tensioner, and idler. Is there a way to diagnose which of the remaining pulleys is actually causing the problem before I buy a new part? I know it is part of the pulley assembly that is causing the squeaking, because if I put soap on the belt, the squeaking stops for about 30 minutes. thank you so much!
you need a special tool to put on the flywheel to do that in an automatic transmission. But this was a standard so I just left it in gear with the parking brake on.
hey scotty i got a 07 civic manual last week and it's at 108,xxx. The previous owner said he didn't change the timing belt yet, when should timing belts get changed by? also the clutch is pretty good and it's still the same factory clutch it has a strong feel to it as well when should i change that?
Hey Scotty, I have a 1995 Toyota Camry and it seems to be having a leaking problem with the oil pan gasket. I was wondering what is the safest way to take off the oil pan without damaging it? The car also needs a new PCV valve and I was wondering how you remove it also.
Scotty, my 98 Corolla is leaking from the rear crankshaft seal, lot more labor cause you gotta separate the transaxle from the engine to get to it. Had it done once already and labor was expensive.
Hey Scotty nice video , would you be able to give any advice my car is leaking oil but can’t figure out what exactly is going on PLEASE HELP ME. It’s a honda accord LX 2000 and i really want to know what’s going on with my car i’ve been to many mechanic and so far you’re the only one i trust. Thanks sincerely Jonathan.
engine oil is used to lube the inner part. realize any grease you put on would quickly just fly off anyway. Yes, timing belts can go either way if they don't have directional arrows on them
Scotty, you are the greatest! Also, you sound just like Rod Stewart (at 2:44) when you say,"...and you just tug on it, and it comes right out!" Cracks me up!
Great video. All of Scotty's videos are entertaining. About to do this on my 2000 Camry since the timing belt broke and it's leaking. Make sure you get good quality brand parts, that way you only have to do the job once.
Hi Scotty, I have just replaced my belts on a 2001 infinity i30t. Just before replacing them and now after I notice a rough idle when the heat or air is on and not in economy mode. Does this mean the AC compressor is failing. It's not horribly rough but I do notice it.
Great instruction mate, We are working on this fault on a 2002 mondeo tdci 1,8. I guess that it is the same thing we have to do on that motor. Thank's mate.
You answered my question before about the distributor. I got my xterra running after installing the distributor now the "Service engine soon" light is on is this just a timing problem or something more serious?
fan running is normal with AC on. Volvos pretty much have crappy ac systems as they age, it doesn't get too hot in sweden ever. but the compressors are know weaknesses, yours is probably on its last legs being that old
Is it imperative to grease the inner part of the new seal? The outer part? What type of greases are acceptable to use? Some people use "silicone" around the outside of the seal? what type of silicone product would that have to be? And just one more thing, If a timing belt does not have directional arrows, is it safe to assume that it can be placed either way? Thank the lord (or science) for people like you! Again I say, hope you make millions!
Hi Scotty i have the same truck a 2000 Toyota 4runner 2.7 i have to have the crank seal replaced what would be a fare price to pay some shop to do it also should i put a oem gasket thank you for the info.
Scotty, if the book time for a repair is 2.4 hours and the mechanic does it in 1.5 hours because they are experienced with my model car and very familiar with the procedure can they charge me the full 2.4 hours in labor? What if they had 2 techs working on it? Thank you, great video as always.
What's the easiest way to get the new crankshaft bolt back to the correct torque? Or, rather, what is the easiest/best way to hold the engine from spinning while doing it, someone holding the brakes + in gear for manual transmission? The spec for my vehicle calls for 36.88 ft-lb and after that 90 degrees. I have a feeling most shops just use impact and over/guess torque the new bolt and call it a day...I saw one video where they used a flywheel lock.
rocker cover gasket or head gasket possibly? this happened to one of my vehicles and next thing the head gasket went on it even though the rocker cover gasket was leaking?? not sure if it was both or one or the other
I'd had the rear main seal on my 01 ZS1 Camaro replaced about 5 years ago and it had started leaking again. I used Lucas, Bardalls and recently had it replaced again. 1st time they put the seal in backwards. It started leaking and they figured out that my crankshaft was wobbling, rounding out the seal. Short of a rebuild, I'm hoping that ATP AT-205 Re-Seal will help. My Camaro is a NC Highway Patrol car, 1 of 160 B4C's, back and automatic and I wanna keep it.. Do you think the ATP AT-205 will help at least slow down the rear mail seal?
I personally use AT 205 reseal for that, damages nothing. But of course the seal can't be completely shot and torn, which you can't tell, so it is a gamble.
Quick question. I did have an oil leak.. and now I've noticed that the pulley is wobbling left to right. But slightly. It only gives me problems when .y engine starts but a little gas makes it go away. But once it's going its not a problem. Do you think replacing the seal will stop the shakes?
Wish doing this was that easy. Mitsubishi Eclipses are absolute hell to work with. Also, is it possible to just use some oil treatment to prolong the life of the seal? Can it stop it completely from leaking?
Scotty, I just picked up an ELECTRIC impact driver from a pawn shop. Do those have enough torque and speed to do something like this, or would only the pneumatic do?
Hey Scotty, would you recommend using a product that is designed to stop oil leaks in a engine if the crankshaft seal has gone, the engine is only pouring out a couple small drops at a time. Will the Stop Leak solution do any harm to the engine and will it help me in stopping this oil leak? Thanks
I've looked into this quite a bit and found many people saying to *AVOID STOP LEAK!!!!!!* If your car is on it's way to the junk yard, go ahead, but if you want it to last for more than a few weeks, DO NOT USE THAT POISON! It should be illegal that they sell it without a warning label is my honest opinion. I've heard as a very very temporary fix with an immediate follow-up servicing is OK, but I've heard plenty of horror stories that would keep me so far away from even taking that risk!

Scotty Kilmer i wish the mechanics i take my car to were as clued up as you
Man scotty you make everything look so easy
Scotty Kilmer youre awesome!
Common sense. The most difficult to obtain
Can I use the 205 reseal to stop a crankshaft seal leak?
He makes it look super easy. He did it all in three minutes. It would take me seven days working eight hours a day.
I do wish he included the time it took him and added some more detailed information for us non-experts to pay attention to!
that sounds like about how long it takes me not mention a really sore back
:D
Youd make a fine city mechanic
Lol
Oh man hearing Scotty go “Uh!” when wrenching something never gets old 🤣
this was a standard, so I locked it in gear. If an automatic, you need a flywheel locking tool to do that
I HAVE AN 87 TOYOTA MR2 THAT RUNS PERFECT BUT ANYTIME I WANT TO DRIVE IT I HAVE TO ADD HALF A QT.I KNEW THAT IT NEEDED THIS SEAL,BUT YOU JUST TOOK A DIFFICULT JOB AND MADE IT LOOK SIMPLE AND EASY.I THINK IM READY TO TRY IT.I LEAVE A PUDDLE IN EVERY PARKING SPOT I GO TO SO MY WHOLE TOWN THANKS YOU.
Out of all the Scotty Kilmer video's I've watched over the year's. This is the only time I've seen Scotty without his sunglasses on.
Oh and thanks Scotty, I have this very leak now on my 2003 Tacoma 4 cylinder. This looks easy to do. Thanks again for all these videos!
did you do it?
Haha anytime I see a video with him I watch it just love his energy
if an automatic transmission, you need a flywheel locking tool to do it, or an air impact wrench
for that one, try a bottle of AT 205 reseal in the engine oil, it can seal em since you already had it changed, it may not be too cracked. Amazon sells the stuff, it can be hard to find
Thank you Scotty, I have been my own mechanic since this ripoff!
Your videos are the best on YT..Thank you Sir Scotty!
After 46 years of doing this, he makes it sound so easy. Man, it ain't!
you put the crank on the top dead center mark, and pray that's right. if not, turn the engine one more rotation around. Set the dist to point at number one spark plug position when you have it set up
Scotty you are the man, your videos have helped me out so much; always straight to the point.
you lock the flywheel with a special tool, or in this case just tighten it in gear cause it was a standard transmission. Can't do that with an automatic though
yes, most mechanics go straight by the labor hour charge rate no matter how fast they can actually do the job.
U make it look so easy
Because he has more than 40 years of experiences fixing cars, he knows inside and out of the cars.
TheMiddleKingdom and yet he does a couple things no professional mechanic should
on that car it is., on many IT ISNT
The power of video editing!!
lifters on those are VERY weak, but have the battery tested and the starter and replace either if bad, that can cause slow cranking. But if they are OK, then your engine is just flat wearing out with worn timing chain and other internal parts.
That is the greatest tip on removing the crankshaft bolt. You are the greatest!
The good news is my Ranger is still under warranty.. 100 dollar Deductable and they can have at it! Nice video ..Love your humor..Ya know your stuff plus you saved many a lot of money!
Thx
When fixing a car I always go to Scotty Kilmer first. He gets to point and makes it plain and simple.
often worn bearings do lower pressure like that, but realize any worn engine oil passageways can drop oil pressure. Pretty much educated guesswork when taking the engine apart until you start measuring everything. that's what plastigauge is for

tons of things can do that, so first, have the battery load tested, places like auto zone do that free. As can a weak starter, which can also be load tested.
How do you replace the rear seal .Thanking you a lot on your wise counsel on very special issues.
try AT 205 reseal, often stops em, hard to find, I use amazon to buy it
Thanks My Brother. Every other video I seen was about rebuilding an engine. Easier then I thought.
Hey cool to see this vid, i just a couple of days ago changed mine on my Peugeot 205 from 1990

yea, they weren't very popular due mainly to low horsepower engines. I would also replace cam seals and oil pump seals while you're in there.
Wonderful video. Not for bmw. You should never remove pulley bolt off from crankshaft while doing a bmw.
it's an average job, most mechanics can do it in 4 or 5 hours.
you made that seal change look so easy, i'm sure it is, haven't done one on that make yet, but i was wondering, when you tightened the crank bolt back on, what were you using to keep the crank from turning. i understood the loosening, but with out locking the flywheel i'm tying to understand how you got the bolt tight. you mentioned taking the rad out to use the impact gun, usually when i do them i go that way for loosening and tightening, makes it easier in a way.
often a leaking cam seal will do that and on many models you have to take the cam off to replace the inner cam seal.
You are the best at quick explanations with car fixes. keep it up!!!
interesting method with using the engine to pop the bolt. i like it!
Thanks. DO you have any suggestions for first cars? I'm only looking to spend 7000 max and need something reliable
You're the man Scotty for the videos helping people save tons of money I know they all are appreciative....... Thanks again Scotty
I've seen a van that got my attention. I do like it, but it has a ticking sound. But everything else work just fine. What can the ticking doing be? Should I buy it or not?
depends on how it was taken care of. Just don't pay much for one with that kind of mileage on it, things will break being that old. They are decent cars for the most part.
any of those Mother products (mother is a brand name, auto zones and many stores carry them.)
generally one of the pulleys has a problem then, try to figure out which one using any listening device like a stethescope
about half an hour for each, but the shooting really depends on the severity of the job, how long it actually takes to fix something.
Interesting. I try to do most of my own work, it saves a lot of money. Do you have any videos on how to do a rear main seal on a 1990 Cougar 3.8L?
hey scotty i done everything u have to offer on ur video regardling my nissan 2003 altima rpm going up and down and i done some research online do u think i might have to take my car to the nissan dealer to get a idle relearn???
generally put a new tension assembly on IF the belt is new
as tight as I could get it. And often you can put some locktite bolt sealer on the end, then quick tighten it and that will set it tight so it won't come off.
yea, try AT 205 reseal, amazon sells it. otherwise, you have to pull everything off to get to the seals
I've got a toyota avensis d4d diesel which is leaking might gave a go myself . Love the videos Scott keep up the great work
Do additives that can added to oil to prevent seal leaking on low milage engine really worth the purchase.?
you need a special tool to put on the flywheel to do that in an automatic transmission. But this was a standard so I just left it in gear with the parking brake on.
wish my supra was that easy to fix lol... awesome video, your maf video helped me out a lot too.
I have a question... IS this the same as the harmonic balancer? Or the rubber part goes inside of the harmonic balancer?
I actually do, but I wasn't using it. A canadian front was blowing through yesterday.
this DIY Method is very Crude and Raises questions of safety into concern.
hey scotty i got a 07 civic manual last week and it's at 108,xxx. The previous owner said he didn't change the timing belt yet, when should timing belts get changed by? also the clutch is pretty good and it's still the same factory clutch it has a strong feel to it as well when should i change that?

Do you alter the timing when you removed the pulley and installed the timing belt?
Hey Scotty nice video , would you be able to give any advice my car is leaking oil but can’t figure out what exactly is going on PLEASE HELP ME. It’s a honda accord LX 2000 and i really want to know what’s going on with my car i’ve been to many mechanic and so far you’re the only one i trust. Thanks sincerely Jonathan.
engine oil is used to lube the inner part. realize any grease you put on would quickly just fly off anyway. Yes, timing belts can go either way if they don't have directional arrows on them
What about silicone on the outside of the front main seal?
electrical short somewhere, check the brake light sockets first they may be corroded
Scotty, you are the greatest! Also, you sound just like Rod Stewart (at 2:44) when you say,"...and you just tug on it, and it comes right out!" Cracks me up!
Scotty Kilmer, thank you so much for your help,we will try and get that done as soon as possible.
Great video. All of Scotty's videos are entertaining. About to do this on my 2000 Camry since the timing belt broke and it's leaking. Make sure you get good quality brand parts, that way you only have to do the job once.
I just love this guys channel
Hi Scotty, I have just replaced my belts on a 2001 infinity i30t. Just before replacing them and now after I notice a rough idle when the heat or air is on and not in economy mode. Does this mean the AC compressor is failing. It's not horribly rough but I do notice it.
Great instruction mate, We are working on this fault on a 2002 mondeo tdci 1,8. I guess that it is the same thing we have to do on that motor. Thank's mate.
You answered my question before about the distributor. I got my xterra running after installing the distributor now the "Service engine soon" light is on is this just a timing problem or something more serious?
it can blow out engine oil seals and if really overfilled, bend piston rods
fan running is normal with AC on. Volvos pretty much have crappy ac systems as they age, it doesn't get too hot in sweden ever. but the compressors are know weaknesses, yours is probably on its last legs being that old
Is it imperative to grease the inner part of the new seal? The outer part? What type of greases are acceptable to use? got anything for front wheel drive cars? I feel like will have to pull out engine for this one.
Can the AT 205 reseal be used to attempt to fix a front crankshaft seal oil leak on 2004 Monte Carlo?
What's the easiest way to get the new crankshaft bolt back to the correct torque? Or, rather, what is the easiest/best way to hold the engine from spinning while doing it, someone holding the brakes + in gear for manual transmission? The spec for my vehicle calls for 36.88 ft-lb and after that 90 degrees. I have a feeling most shops just use impact and over/guess torque the new bolt and call it a day...I saw one video where they used a flywheel lock.
you need a locking tool for the flywheel, or put locktite on the bolt before putting it in so it doesn't loosen out if you're worried,
rocker cover gasket or head gasket possibly? this happened to one of my vehicles and next thing the head gasket went on it even though the rocker cover gasket was leaking?? not sure if it was both or one or the other
I'd had the rear main seal on my 01 ZS1 Camaro replaced about 5 years ago and it had started leaking again. Do you think the ATP AT-205 will help at least slow down the rear mail seal?
this one has a groove with a key on the crank, so it only fits on one way
I personally use AT 205 reseal for that, damages nothing. But of course the seal can't be completely shot and torn, which you can't tell, so it is a gamble.
Do you a video on 2005 pt crusier crankshaft seal replacement?

What about a 2 piece rear seal? What's the best way and tips and tricks to prevent installation damage?
Scotty, I just picked up an ELECTRIC impact driver from a pawn shop. Do those have enough torque and speed to do something like this, or would only the pneumatic do?
Any suggestions on the rear mains for front wheel drives?
Could you upload some videos of fixing LS1 5.7 engine leaks? from heads to the middle top crank shaft? below the intake
often leaking valve cover gaskets do that, as they are on the top. Oil leaks down
Hi Scotty will AT-205 Re-Seal fix a leaking crankshaft seal?
this was a standard, I just put it in gear. But if an automatic, you must somehow lock the flywheel from turning, they make tools for that
Hey Scotty, would you recommend using a product that is designed to stop oil leaks in a engine if the crankshaft seal has gone, the engine is only pouring out a couple small drops at a time. Will the Stop Leak solution do any harm to the engine and will it help me in stopping this oil leak? Thanks

Does the crankshaft pulley spin after the belt is taken off?
