Angus said in an interview he only had a B string on the guitar when he recorded this to get the cleanest take.
Love it ! Awesome little "golden nugget".
Yup, my old guitar teacher used to play with Chris Slade and he said Angus did in deed record it with just the B.
That’s what I did with the e string lol
Wow
Makes sense. I can play legato on the baritone ukulele pretty well but not guitar well. Spacing makes it difficult. Cool video. I will learn both.
hey there all jammers. A tip. Practice, practice, practice. As slow as possible till it comes to easy. Then you speed up. Patience, patience patience. Good luck. Never give up.
I'm will not give up! :D
This is taking a LOT of time, but I am not giving up.
Hero's never die
I think Angus himself even once said he has to practice this regularly or he won't be able to do it with ease while playing live
GGMU I can't do it that well. I suck!
what am I doing here? I should be learning the basic chords first
XD same
You could start with picking if you'd like. No harm
I means it's all one string for the this part. I don't even know my chords but I can kinda play it
it’s been a year now have u been
me too
It's so funny how I thought for years that this was impossible for me to learn this, then I come across this guy and I get to play this within only a few days, I should have came on here ages ago!
I learned in 1 day without this video with songster tabs
My pinky dies everytime
I got u w that 100th like brotha 😂
"you must pick every note with alternate picking"
James Hetfield: Ahh-ahhhh-a-ahhhh-Ahh-a-ahhhh
Why did you say James hetfield
@@guitarsandhoes420 Cause he only uses downpicking
Crazy how this riff sounds almost nothing like the original until it is played at full speed.
Is it sad that I'm so familiar with this song, I could actually hear a crowd chanting in my mind, as you played?
Ahh-ahhhh-a-ahhhh-Ahh-a-ahhhh THUN-DER"
+Tzisorey Tigerwuf Not sad, its an awesome song
cringe
Dude! I just did the same thing!
Lmao same
same
so if you start from 5:34 and set video speed at 2.0 it would sound like normal :PP
FreezyCRO I tried playback at 2x speed setting like you were wondering.. It sounds identical to the real song.
Lol ya
FreezyCRO lmao it did
damn man that true
Bruh this is crazy
It's so tricky to get the timing of the pick down on this song especially the way the pick hits the subsequent notes when the string is still vibrating at peak frequency from the previous pick. It's like that pick just wants to bounce off the string without making proper contact. Learning to coordinate the pick timing on the string instead of fighting the string was definitely the most challenging part for me.
i completely agree on that
Do you have any advice? People saying this is easy are sadly mistaken
Adviceee
@@EPSGplayer yeah i have a feeling that the people saying this is easy arent playing it right
And I’m sure that’s exactly what angus young is thinking on stage after an hour of playing to 50k people when he starts this song.
I'm an old big hair rocker YUP I'm 55 and last summer I was still playing Eruption and killing it! I got a concussion in November and lost so much of my memory like basic chords, bar chords, scales, progressions and my Wife's birthday!!! yes it's that bad! it's hard for me to understand why I have to start over learning how to play guitar AGAIN but watching videos like these makes it so much easier to learn again in the second half of the video it's hard to see where his fingers are they're kinda all over and it's unclear what frets and strings to use when I see his hand across the neck, again I have to relearn how to play and it gets confusing But I thank you for your time and effort for showing us how to play some Awesome music I'm Gerald and I'm using my Wife's cel
I feel for ya, man. That must have been an extremely serious incident you were involved in to have been injured with a concussion that bad. Several years ago, I merely fractured my left hand in a bad fall. Due to the location of the fracture, over the years since, arthritis has made that hand nearly useless when trying to manipulate every finger on it. I truly do wish you luck with the recovery process you're going through. I can only imagine the frustration you're dealing with regarding your situation. I do wish you all the luck in the world to be able to get back all that you lost. You take care, Sir.
@@trustnoone3795 You're so kind fam, hope you're doing well and I wish you luck and all the best 🤘👐
Wow that’s rough. You got this my man! take care
1:15 at 2x speed is how I see every guitar solo I want to learn.
How's it going 3 years later?
@@yelkhan2002 how’s it going A day later
@@gladiator2935 not all that well
@@yelkhan2002 damn bro I’m sorry

I happen to be a close friend of the engineer of The Razor's Edge album, partially recorded in Vancouver. He told me that take on the album was done without any overdubs or cuts, just Angus in the studio with a cigarette in his mouth playing the riff.. when the smoke was finished, so was the song...
HAH doing this on an acoustic really allievates the whole "hammer on pull offs" xD
Ridley On Steroids ha same
This was surprisingly easy.
Thanks for explaining the RIGHT way to play this song. EVERY note is picked, exactly the way you play it.
1:13 I can hear the “AAH AAH AHA AHAs”
Too much the doo
I love critics on youtube. Dumbass misses the entire point of the lesson. This is a how to play the song correctly lesson not a this is Angus Youngs gear video. Great job on the lesson...keep em coming!
it sounds so easy
It is
Yeah...very simple. Great beginner practice finger learning to tap.
Marty Shwartz?
It's always seem easy when you're not the one writing it.
haaahahhaahahhaha
Easy and beautiful. Thank you so much.
THANX...you made it easy to play....I'm left handed.... but playing my guitar is fun... just started learning...
Steve Archuleta I'm left handed and I can't seem to learn very easy
Desmond McElroy those cords can be tricky..... I still struggle... I'm not good at all but I practice...
+Cormac Rouse yes?????
Steve Archuleta of
+Aashay Kulkarni yes?????? you asked for me????
Haha!! Not enough cameras! I chose to focus on the hands instead. BUT, I do have a third camera on order so starting next week some time you will also see a shot of my ugly mug while I am talking and stuff. You asked for it. LOL.... Thanks man!!
How does one pick that fast???
Alternate picking my friend.....
Try moving your finger and thumb that hold the pick rather than your whole hand/from the wrist. Takes practice to get into the habit of doing it and to switch back and forth from other picking styles, but it's another trick for the magic bag, well worth it.
let your arm kinda rest on guitar dont keep it in the air
brush, don't pick, the harder you pick, the harder it is to pick fast, if you brush the string, you can go a lot faster
Britany Cheung It's the distortion that makes it sound faster.
this is the only good song tutorial on youtube thank you soo much 🙏
Best lesson on this tune yet!
Great lesson! Helped me hit one of my guitar goals.
He makes it look so easy
cause it IS easy
Yeah it actually is pretty easy, it's probably a bit hard playing it fast but it's really simple
conor4011
It’s very simple but kinda hard because of the speed.
ikr
probably gunna take me 7 weeks to just do this trolley part
I did it in 30 minutes, you can do it!
+Xx_PaTrolGaMinG_xX HD
i do too xD
Maya Ash
Awesome! lol
it took me 30 minutes to learn this
Saem
You know what Carl the alternate picking in the intro is actually easier for me then doing it legato. Just getting it up to speed is going to be the challenge.
Thanks for such a cool lesson. Your doing all the songs I love.
Greatly appreciated!!!!!
Lesson starts 1:13
Thankyou
thank god that i can save 1 minute jesus fuck i think i would have killed myself if i had to wait a second longer i could have definitely been doing something better like masturbating or tryign to find my step dads social security number
Thank you dude..you save my wifi!
so salty
Thanks man.
Try not playing with so much overdrive, if you're squealing feedback,, Angus plays pretty damn clean, Great lesson teacher
I noticed that too. But, it still sounds pretty good
Yup
Definitely too much drive and echo lol
@@avenger374 hows heaven or hell?
Awesome lesson! You're right about it not being hammer ons and pulloffs. You can totally hear the individual clicks like you said. Thanks for sharing how to play this song authentically and for the clear/precise instruction. Your time and generosity is greatly appreciated by many!
took me only 5 years to get the speed goin, but hey got it :)
Thx a lot I can finaly impress my friends with this song 😀
Wow ty bro. Thanks to you I got this in about 30 min... Now im working to go faster. Great vid keep it up. (#Pray4Harambe)
i spent 10 seconds trying to get a fly of my screen. I didnt realise its a picture... -_-
Great instructions how to play Thunderstruck. Saw ACDC in Dresden 2 weeks ago and Angus played absolutely brilliantly. Would love to play like this...

I learned the song! Thank you! :D
I had to play this line at a gig with one day notice. I never played it before. To stop the G string from making noise, I pulled it up at the nut and put it on top of the D string. Worked like a charm!
Honestly can’t say I’ve felt playing a song as easy to learn then from this video and this song in particular! Good tutorial and thank you for sharing this!
Thank you sir for great instruction! For a beginner guitarist, riffs like these build confidence and interest to keep going! The up pick at the start makes all the difference for building speed.
I learned it I'm so happy ^0^
thank you bro in 1 hour a was able to play this awesome song
you rock !
Angus Young amazing player! Not easy picking every note and staying in time the way he does. Check out Thunderstruck Live at Donnington!
This was surprisingly easy... thank you so much I’ve wanted to learn this song for sooo longggg
i- please give advice :,(
Thank you for this great lesson man! Very understanding for a beginner.
This is beautiful! I might even grab my old guitar some day to try it.
It is a lot easier picking for me than doing hammer on pull offs
I'm playing it !!! Thanks!! Very good teacher. Excellent.
K so I began playing guitar a few weeks ago and I’ve been trying to find vids for thunder struck they were too complicated until you showed my how to play it thx bro
wow, the song i always thought was difficult to learn is actually pretty straight forward and somewhat easy. Thanks alot for the video!
How would this sound on acoustic
stop
recognizable
+AsianTheDomination ew
too hard...
Trust me it fucking sucks lol
This is a challenge. Try to find out my comment by looking at the replies.
Thanks for so many likes.
Biplov Shrestha yes
It is easier with picking for me. It also never sounded right to me without picking.
Biplov Shrestha
Good
it is easier if you have very little gain on your setup, but when you have a lot of gain it sounds fine by just pressing on the strings, making it easier to play with hammer ons and pull offs for most people.
SLegends gain to the max and highest output pick up should do the trick (using overdrive off course)
This lick seems like a good exercise and probably helps with learning how to play more solos.
Fantastic clip man. Thanks for your time.
Are you The dooo??????
I think it's the dooo
+Yoyo ha ha i totally agree
The Dooo >;)
i think the dooo has a red guitar the guy in the vid has brown
+Loe Kevin Sorono people can have more than one guitar dipshit
tbh I think a anyone can learn this riff very easy if u practice it enough I only been playing guitar for a month and the first 2 weeks of me playing guitar I learned to play this I'm not as fast as it should be but I can play it at least lol
CartoonFB that's really good actually. Just keep playing and having fun, the speed should come naturally with experience and practice.
Thanks man!! This helped me a lot learning how to play this on my mandolin!
it's easier than i thought, thanks to this lesson!
what are your amp settings at?
I personally prefer the pull offs. Can play at the speed of about 80% 100% still a bit too hard
Wanted to learn this forever! Thanks!
Thanks for the cool lesson. You play and explain well.
Took me two years to learn the main riff😂then i found out about Malcoms part n the whole song😭took another few months
In the recording they took off all the other strings for this part.
definatley sounds better this way . good one .
Wow this is a great video man for a beginner. You made this very simple not to fast and made Everything very visible and described in detail thank you 🙏
Hit Like even though you don't play guitar but wish you could !
START PLAYING! :D
Trust me I do but I get lost all the time between cords... :(
Work on easier songs to play which are chord / rhythm based (think Nirvana and other grunge bands from the 90's, or early rock infamously known for G, C, D chord transitions ). You'll get faster and faster being able to transition between chords. It's difficult at first which can be discouraging, but you'll get it. Rhythm guitar will teach you a lot of the fundamentals and train your fingers to rapidly adjust to different positions. It's all about muscle memory.
I have problems with fine motor control in my hands as I'm getting older and may have young onset Parkinson's Disease. I just got back into playing guitar and redeveloping my muscle memory to play good again has been a challenge, but it's helping me use my hands better all around.
no not me i never lost control
YO! Listen, ive been playing a little over a year and a half and I can nail this. If you put in the practice, you can do this. Hell four months ago I couldn’t play a barre chord. Now I know half of Eruption! You got this! I usually practice around 1 or 5 hours a day!
Angus did it so fast i tried but i faild
Awesome! I'm gonna try to learn this later tonight.
i love the way you teach
3:15 sounded so damn badass
I can’t even get my guitar to sound like that
Austin Plays games
Link so are you with Mipha or Zelda?
For myself, it seems that I can play this much, much faster if I observe these five things: 1) Hold the pick loosely. Don't choke up on it. 2) Rest the butt of my hand on the bridge. 3) Watch the pick-tip action, not the fretting hand, trying to minimize the arc of the pick-tip as it strums the string. 4) Hold the pick in such a way that the left side of my index finger can nudge against pick on the upstroke. Practice playing only the fretted side of the riff, playing it as fast as I can. 5) Playing the open side of the riff, strumming the string as fast and evenly as I can. This has seemed to really increase my speed and control.
Thanks for another awesome walk thru!
Who else wanted to sing when he started to play? (Me)

Your welcome
Can you write amplifier settings ?
Depends what controls you have on your amp and your guitar. What make and model is your guitar and amp? As a general setting you want a smidge over half way of gain, three quarters of treble, between a quarter and a half of bass and half presence or contour. Three quarters of reverb
SonOfWoden1 my guitar ibanez grg170dx amp roland micro cube thank you so much
wow, I learned something visually that might take years to master it 😢 but I gibe it a try! Thanks 🙏 for the clear tutorial
Thanks man, appreciate you posting this!
What amp settings are u using?
+Ramona Kienbacher i dont know if this will help but i ve got a blackstar amp and on mines is max gain middle equalizer sttings rev button effect 1

Ramona Kienbacher i hope i helped but i do recommend you mess about with the different effects and mods until it fits you :)
yes, it fits perfect.
How do you pick so fast?
Rythmn master Mr.Angus Young..gees what a pain in the ass this one is..thanks!!
thanx for the video bro..I always wanted to learn this song
PICK ATTACK!
I have no idea how to do hammer ons. :'(
:D ull get there sooner than you think. power and pretition ll give you the sound u want. practice , practice and if you think you re not improving you re deeply mistaken
You get a hammer and you put it on the fretboard. Jk, you just press your finger fairly hard on the frett board for a nice sound instead on using the pick. Look it up
you spelled "practice" wrong... TWICE
FaZe Predator here.
Been struggling with this for a while but as you said, start with an up pick. Wow such a small thing made a massive difference.
Starting with an down stroke works for me...thanks!

How about now?

God damn its hard to learn
TABS please? you're helpful but tabs are helpful
Great lesson! Keep it up!
Awesome video very helpful man thank you!
haven't played my pipes for ever thought id pick it up again and I use long way to the top to get motivated again but then I remember a piper playin thunderstruck n it sounded way cool. This will be one of those killer exersizes to get in pipin shape (not the most traditional pipin exersize no doubt). thanks 4 breakin this down to something digestable!
This help me a lot thanks 🙏🏾
Thanks man, you helped out alot.
Great tutorial! Will try to learn this as soon as my guitar comes back from the luthier because I managed to ruin the electric connection on the jack 🥲
Thank you so much!!!!!! You explain it so much better!!!
