I live in the southeast. Our homeless live somewhere out of sight. The police run them off. They use to beg right off the highways but that was stopped. Its weird and kind of scary to think of what happened to them and where they can be. I use to see them in the woods near Walmart with small camps. Not any more. They've disappeared. Its sad. We are ALL a couple paycheck from homeless. I know. I lost my home of 13 years. I lost my job. I'm ok now though. But don't condemn ppl. It could be you.

The epidemic is becoming worse in Las Vegas much like the rest of the major cities in the U.S. The difference between the weathy and those in poverty is much wider now. Mental health is being grossly underfunded.

That was a very small example of what's really going on throughout this entire valley. You really need to come down to places like Boulder Highway and check out some of the living conditions around the flood control drainage channels. You missed a whole lot of it.

Having lived in New York City, I am used to seeing "homeless" on the streets. Back in the 60s, they were all centralized in the Bowery, and we referred to them as Bowery Bums. Then, real estate speculators got involved and all the Single Room Occupancy (SRO) buildings got bought up - at the same time, our Governor (Hugh Carey) presented the idea that we should close the State mental hospital system (thanks, Geraldo Rivera!) and create a system of "halfway houses" that would "mainstream" the previous occupants back into society. After invoking that BS, New York began its 40 year problem with "the homeless". Because, guess what? NO "halfway house" system was ever put into place - they just ejected all the nuts onto the streets instead. Thanks, bro.

My grandson was homeless in Las Vegas for a few years. Then 1 of his grandfather's took him to another state. So instead of being homeless in a warm climate he's homeless near the Canadian border. He's mentally ill, but won't take his meds, as his mental illness is tells him he's fine. He's not destitute as he gets SSI for his mental illness. His monitor sends his money to the Salvation Army, and they give it to him. He gives most of it away to other homeless people. He was featured in a newspaper article about being homeless.
The area you are showing has very little homeless compared to the sidewalks by the homeless shelters on N Las Vegas Blvd

What they need is socks, blankets, M.R.E.'s etc. Not people filming them in order to get more subscribers but doing nothing to help; not even talking to them. Some of them just want someone to talk to them; to listen to their story; to care, even if you can't do anything to help them.
Also you didn't get any shots of the people who live in the tunnels under the city. I'm not scared to talk to homeless people because I've been homeless. Now I do homeless outreach, I bring them food; make donations like tents, clothing, whatever I have to give. I try to locate veterans while I'm there and do what I can to help get them off the streets. Part of the problem with doing that is that half of them will claim to be veterans even if they aren't. You ask for their DD-214 & they don't have one. You offer to help them acquire a copy of their most recent DD-214 and they don't want to because they never had one because they never served. Sometimes even the ones that did serve will only get mad if you try to help them because the military forgot about them and the VA dropped the ball on them before. New Directions isn't part of the VA but they have a 100 year lease on federal property at the VA & CAN get homeless veterans off the streets.
Some get off the streets into VA or ND housing but they still have drug and alcohol problems, they end up spending every penny of their General Relief or unemployment benefits on drugs and alcohol. Some would rather be homeless and high/drunk than have to face ANY kind of responsibilities; get a job; work etc.
You can't help them all, you can only give them a chance to help themselves. They have to be willing to take action on their own behalf.
If you really want to raise awareness - TALK to them, ask them if they'd be willing to tell their story. How did they end up in that position? THEY might be helping others by telling their own stories and you might be helping them just by listening; getting them to open up. Also, if you're going to film them without permission at least blur their faces.

    • @liquidbraino

@@HIAHomelessInAmerica I talk to homeless people all the time and already know what they're going through because I've been homeless. With all the viewers you have you could set up a Patreon, ask for donations and distribute army blankets, socks, M.R.E.'s or KFC like I do. If you're ever in Los Angeles let me know, I do a homeless outreach with a group of actors that I train with. Every year we go to homeless shelters to feed them, locate the veterans and help get them off the streets. There's actually two different groups at the school where I train, I invited a friend to go help feed the homeless at Hope Of The Valley Rescue Mission and found out that she was already doing her own outreach on the same day at a different shelter. We usually do this around the holidays but if you're going to participate we'll have to ask that you either blur their faces for privacy or get their permission first (if you're going to interview any of them).
I also teach a free acting class for disabled veterans at the Sepulveda VA which I intend on starting at the homeless shelters across Los Angeles eventually because acting literally saved my life. I was in a homeless shelter when I started acting and figured if acting can safe my life then it can probably help others. I've had to put a lot of this on hold because I almost died last November and have been in and out of the hospital for a year. I have two more surgeries coming up soon but once all of this medical stuff is behind me I'll be right back at it again. You're more than welcome to participate if you happen to be in the area. I've already spoken with the president of the homeless shelter about the idea of offering a free acting class (Meisner based) and he agreed; is looking forward to it.
I'd love to see some of those people on the same trajectory I was on eight years ago. I had lost all hope, lost my will to live. Acting gave me something to get excited about, something to look forward to, something to live for. It also helped me get moved out of the shelter because I was homeless when I got cast in my first supporting role in a feature film, non-union of course but it paid enough for me to move into my current apartment and for the next four years I did nothing but acting; was able to pay my rent as a working actor. It's all a very long story, I'm actually trying to keep it short but try to imagine how crazy and surreal it would be to go from getting a standing ovation on a stage in Hollywood to being stranded at a bus stop on Hollywood Blvd in the rain; until 6AM because I missed the last bus that would have taken me back to the homeless shelter. Standing Ovation in front of a live audience; feeling on top of the world > stranded in the freezing cold rain for eight hours. But I never felt more alive in my entire life than I did on that night.

In the industrial age, the most appropriate metropolis no longer has to be the one that produces the highest income per capita... The most important task is to promote the harmonious interaction of the urban population.
