    Love the outside kitchen. Our current RV has one and we use it more than the inside one. I also like the additional awnings; RVing is all about being outdoors and awnings make that more comfortable. Thank you for for the great review. I like how you review what’s important like storage and comfort. “Howard, real talk in the gear garage.” Love it! You guys make me smile, thank you!!

      Hi Rachelle!! Exactly! We think we'd be like you, and probably use the outside kitchen area more. That's good to hear you like yours! We love hanging out outside. Hahaha, gotta keep it real! 😂👏 Howard consistently makes me laugh, too. 😆 Thanks for watching this episode! ♥️ -Katelyn

    Great job Howard and Katelyn!
    Loved the way you both showed this Winnebago 22A. I love Winnebago and class Cs. Those are my favorites to do camping with. This one is nice. The bed looks cozy. I like the bathroom shower how turn the wall around. I like the outdoor kitchen too. The awning look cool too. And the storage. Thank you both for showing this Winnebago 22A.

      Will you be shipping an RV from the U.S. over to Europe and back, or are you planning to rent or buy an RV once you get to Europe?
      I live in Alsace, on the French/German border, and innovative quality built RVs and Vans are much cheaper in Europe than they are in the U.S..
      You can buy a great Van in Europe for between 40,000 to 65,000 € ($45-$70,000).

    Love your channel and adventures! I have been researching the purchase of a Class C RV the past 9 months and when I first saw the EKKO, it was clear to me that it is going to be a game changer compared to anything else in this space! I like the AWD for off-road use and the Eco boost engine for high elevation travel in the mountains. I also like the slide-out on the 24C and it looks like moving the passenger seats to the other side may allow them to recline. Can't wait to see both when available in the Atlanta area.

    You guys..... that was one of the best RV review videos I have seen. I have watched 3 on the Ekko now and yours was the very best. Smooth flowing and you got so much info covered in this video. I can't wait to see the 24C one you do. That is the RV I am really interested in. Living in Canada and having to be back after 6 months away and hitting freezing temps still, this Ekko is my choice for an RV. So do you think the 24C will be a little easier to drive for you because the Ekko is narrower than the View/Navion or would it be basically the same? I love your Navion because it suits the 5 of you and you have made it yours. Enjoy the rest of the show.

    • @NewstateNomads
      @NewstateNomads  4 роки тому +2

      Hi Susie! Wow, thank you SO much for the compliment! That means the world to us. We wanted to cover as much as we could and also keep it exciting and fast-paced. We're REALLY excited to see the 24C! That definitely makes sense on why you would like it too! It is narrower and a little shorter, so it might be more nimble to drive but our Navion drives really well too! Part of why were interested in the 24C is because of the additional capabilities it would give us for boondocking. Don't get us wrong, we looove our Navion and this has been the best rig for all 5 of us, we agree with you there! ☺️ We'll know a lot more once we're able to see the 24c, for sure! Thanks again for your kind words ♥️ and always supporting us! -Katelyn

    I didn't read all the comments so if already noted I apologize. On our View 19D the Maxxair fan is a model 8501K which does not include in/out fan direction. In fact the spec sheet does not indicate a remote even though we have one. Anyway, great video. Love watching you guys! Stay safe.

    • @NewstateNomads
      @NewstateNomads  4 роки тому +1

      Terry, I'm sure we have the same one on our Navion 19D, and you're right it is exhaust only (with remote). I've asked about this and it seems like the OEM version sold to Winnebago doesn't have the ability to switch directions, but if you buy the retail version you CAN! Fingers crossed that Winnebago switches to the in/out version, would be a great benefit to us (and sounds like you as well). As always, thanks for watching! 👍 -Howard

    I'd like to see them install a flush mount sink, and give you the option of choosing an induction cooktop if you don't want the propane. And it definitely needs a convection microwave. I like what Thor is doing, offering a dual cooking set-up with one propane burner, and one induction unit, side by side. I know that an induction top is an easy after market purchase, but in such a small rig storage will always be at a premium, so having one installed at the factory would be a nice option.

    • @NewstateNomads
      @NewstateNomads  4 роки тому

      Mark, thanks for watching, and great points! I know Winnebago offers the dual cooktop set you mentioned (induction and propane) on the new View/Navions. We own a motorhome in France and it has a cassette toilet. I really miss the huge black water tank we had in our Itasca Navion 24j. Like this Ekko, our motorhome has a garage at the back (the French call it “soute”) and it is great, we love it.
    I look forward to see the 24C floor plan. We also have 2 dogs and like more living space. The 24C might very well be our next purchase after we are done RVing in Europe. The idea of a real 4 seasons coach is interesting. We live in Quebec and have not even travelled across our own country yet. Because of the pandemic, we won’t be able to go to France in April and May as planned. So we are thinking about buying an RV and go to the Rockies instead. We found a 2019 View 24D juste like yours near our place. It only has 6000 km! I discovered you when I was looking for reviews on this model. I love watching all your videos. Should we make an offer on this RV ? Tough decision......This pandemic is really annoying.
    Keep up the good work, very inspiring!

    • @NewstateNomads
      @NewstateNomads  4 роки тому

      Helene, such a tough decision for both of us! The challenge I believe is the different features and purpose of the View vs EKKO. I believe with the EKKO Winnebago is trying to enable colder, more remote exploration. The features support that concept, including the All wheel drive chassis. The View/Navions for us are truly a home on wheels with all the amenities. Spacious, high end finishes and features. We kind of push our Navion to the limit of it's design, particularly in the rugged environments we camped in this summer. That's why the EKKO is such an appealing option! Hard to choose! Thanks for watching. 👍 -Howard

For a space perspective and taking the 3 other tenants into account I'd go for the more spacious model. I'm assuming that, in Europe, you'll have a small vehicle with you to travel locally like you do now. As the roads aren't all that wide and spacious as in the states. But you guys are the experts so I am sure your decisions will be based on previous experience. Happy travels. Can't wait to see what you ultimately decide on. Additionally, as you twisted the handle, it would pull the door tight against the gaskets, helping with weatherproofing. Can't wait to see the EKKO out and about. • @NewstateNomads
      @NewstateNomads  4 роки тому

      Rob, just saw your comment. From what we understand, Winnebago builds the prototype by hand with the design team. Then another phase of builds occur for further testing and production planning. Finally, after it passes testing in this second phase do they start production on the assembly line for customer deliveries. The prototype has already had modifications (like a different window in the galley) and they are continuing to refine the design even as we speak! Thanks for watching. 👍 -Howard

    So if you were to commit to an EKKO in the future do you think you’d end up with the 22A or the 24C? Another nice thing about the C is the black water tank. How do you feel about the cassette toilet in general? It seems like it would have to be dumped a lot more frequently. Also, would you opt to keep the awning with the led lights? We love using ours personally in the Fuse.

      Michelle you bring up a lot of great points and questions on this one, it would be hard to choose between the two floorplans! Thank you for your video, two questions:
    - If you are headed to Europe with this EKKO, how easy is it to transport it to Europe, how and how long to get it to Europe and one way cost? Any refitting needed to meet Europe regulations?
    - The bathroom divider wall, after you shower, bathroom is wet, bringing wall back to use the toilette, now you have a sealed wet area behind that wall, any concern for mold, bacteria growth, etc?

    • @NewstateNomads
      @NewstateNomads  4 роки тому

      Great points and questions!
      We're still researching a couple of shipping companies, but no refitting is needed if it is a TEMPORARY import (meaning keeping the US plates on the RV and no more than 6 months inside the EU every 12 months).
      The divider wall isn't completely sealed, there's a gap of at least 1" when it is up against the shower enclosure side. I also recall, but can't find anything on the Winnebago site specifically about the divider wall materials and their robustness against mold/bacteria. During a conversation with the Winnebago team, it was mentioned that they believed it had resistance to the above, but again, I'll try and get some more info about that.

You'd need that gen to take the air cond load off of the 2nd alternator so it could recharge batteries after running the AC for a short night stop when traveling. Even with 2 of those batteries, the AC would deplete them in 5 to 6 hours in the weather we have down here. ACs run most all of the time. I'm judging this from RVs I normally see down here and hopefully this Ekko has some better insulation. It appears as though it does. "In my opinion," if it were on the Mercedes (much more comfort), and lifted, it would have been a world better. Now if it were a Diesel Mercedes 4x4 rather than AWD with optional lift, it would be literal perfection without being fully custom.

    I'm excited to see one in person. We have a 2017 Navion 24J and really love it. Without a doubt, Winnebago has some of the finest engineers and Innovative creators in the RV business. However, their installers are at best average and in my opinion below-average. Specifically the wiring system is just slopped together in my Winnebago. For example, we were having dc power outage issues. Fortunately I troubleshot to loose main DC cable connector on circuit breaker underneath the passenger seat. It arced so severely burned up the 2 circuit breakers. As a systems engineer, their quality assurance is almost non-existent for the installers. So my fear is the Ekko has everything going for it . But the installers I fear will causes the Ekko to be a headache for Winnebago 1st couple of years. There is so much behind the walls the troubleshooting will be a nightmare.

During troubleshooting process of opening up passenger's seat and wiring under corner bed, I discovered 3 ganged relays dangling not attached to relay plate under seat because the installer miss routed the massive wire bundles, additionally, the installer severely bent the wire terminals attached to circuit breakers resulting over time loose connection. Under the bed, the installer again missrouted so badly there is no fix sort of rewiring; however, the wiring under bed is electrically sound just makes winterizing the Truma valves very hard to both find and operate. Winnebago tech center awesome! ! Sent me schematics...made the job very easy. Winnebago engineers, customer service, and Technical help could not be better. They are outstanding . just too bad the installers are more like the old Detroit assembly lines who are just there for a paycheck.

Best case scenario, one member of Team Winnebago told us a set of the fitted sheets could be included as part of the overall "WinnSleep" system of new mattresses in the EKKO. Presuming further, I would imagine you could order more sets. Curious how the plumbing/water lines are done. I don't see any UA-camrs ever showing the downside. Winnebago has been using white flexible hose with pex fitting in numerous coaches. That hose and fitting combo creates leaks. No one ever talks about it but major leaks on many Winnebago models including your 2019 24D. Any thoughts on this? They are still using the same pipes in certain areas in their 2021 model. A 1 year warranty doesn't do much when those leaks pop up after a year.

    • @NewstateNomads

      All the plumbing is internal to the coach on the EKKO to help with low temp performance (and avoid freezing anything), but as a result almost none of it is visible unless we pull some drawers. Interesting you mention leaks, we've had ZERO problems on our 19 24D with 2.5 years of fulltime usage. with all that electrical power why not an induction stove, gas causes added humidity inside.

      Peter, I wouldn't be surprised if they update the cooktop to a combo induction/propane unit like in the View/Navions. Gives the best of both worlds. 👍 -Howard

    It must be hard to Boondocks for a few days when you only have a 5 gal cassette toilet. That’s only my drawback.

      @NewstateNomads  4 роки тому

      Joseph, great point. We don't have any experience with the cassette toilets, but do know people who have ordered multiple cassettes to extend their time Boondocking (we know people with Revels that use a similar if not the same cassette as the EKKO). For us, the challenge has been freshwater capacity when Boondocking, but it didn't stop us from 125 straight days of free camping in 2020. 👍 -Howard

      Lots and lots of Euro features and style in this one, mixed with rugged for rougher terrain exploring. It's an interesting combo! Thanks for watching, Michael. 👍 -Howard

    Been catching up on these EKKO previews and this sad part is Winnebago decided to drop the black tank on these. Don't get me wrong on cassette, they're great systems, but not everyone wants to "dump their business" by hand ;)

    Can you pull your car with this?

    • @NewstateNomads
      @NewstateNomads  4 роки тому +1

      Deanna, yes we should be able to pull a tow car! Remember, preliminary numbers since it's a prototype, but a car under 4,000lbs should work just fine (bonus if it has a built-in picnic table 😂). 👍 -Howard
