    Just wanted share a tip on dividing rooms - You cannot leave any open area for that particular room do divide it .. For example in this video- When trying to divide Room "A" you have to draw the dividing line BETWEEN the two boundaries/walls of the auto recognized Room "A" . You cannot leave floating dividing lines in Room 'A' .. It always has to be between two boundaries .. IF needed .. you can keep dividing until you get the actual room layout of your home and then merge parts again.. Hope this helps!

    Thanks! This was good info. I've recently got mine T8+ and had few issues. Mapping is no where neat as most people. A lot of running around carpets etc. No nice straight lines as u you for example. I have door in small corridor, so sometimes it has trouble getting back to the station. (door is open so both sides have about 50cm) I'll try relocating the station today and do a remap. It divided the rooms perfectly and when I say to Alexa "ask deebot to clean dining room" it works without a hitch. Which is pretty cool. Though I don't think I'll be using it that often. Mopping is pretty lame, but I guess it's on every bot. Don't really need it. Lots of carpets and since it won't go over them (option to make it would be nice), T8 can't reach half of the house because hallway has 100% carpet on one area.

    I have the same unit and I am pleased with mine so far. My floor plan is not open like yours other than my kitchen and dining area and the Deebot actually divided the area its self as it mapped on the first few runs. The only issue I had was with the cliff sensors not allowing the vacuum to operate on an area rug with dark edges. After some modifications I made it now works fine. Luckily I have a single level with no need for drop sensors

    From watching this video I'm realising how lucky I got with my T8-AIVI in my home. Mine auto-split my rooms after it created the map on the first run and it was so good it was actually a bit spooky. It put in no unwanted dividers and for the dividers it did put in absolutely every single one was exactly where I would have put it had I done the division manually myself. It then went even further and somehow correctly identified which room was my living room, 2 of my bedrooms and both of my bathrooms and automatically labelled them as such! I have no idea how it did that but it did. I can see from this video that not everyone has such a great experience and there are other bits of the app that just aren't as well done as iRobot (I also have an i7+ so am familiar with that app) so Ecovacs do have some catching up to do on the software.
    Ecovacs hardware with Roomba-quality software would be the perfect combination for me. The good news for Ecovacs owners is that software can be updated at any time but you're stuck with whatever hardware you purchased until you buy something new so I think Ecovacs are in the stronger position here provided they do have a good group of software engineers who will push out updates to improve the software.
    If iRobot don't switch to Lidar I think they're in trouble. They should probably also introduce a front-facing camera with AI for obstacle avoidance, both Ecovacs and Roborock have that now on their top-of-the-range systems and iRobot 's s9 is looking more and more like an awful lot of money for less sophisticated hardware. iRobot can only carry on for so long living off past glories and better software. The software advantage is big right now but as mentioned it can disappear in the blink of a firmware/app update.

    Mine divided the rooms perfectly after the first run. It even divided the living room and dining room areas perfectly which i was suprised because the condo I live doesn't have walls or entryways to divide the rooms, but after i had to delete the robot and re add it because I accidently hit the little grey wifi button under the hood next to the power switch it messed up and wouldnt let me get into the settings to reconnect wifi i had to run it again to create a new map and this time it didn't divide the two rooms. At first I had the same problem you had but after a few minutes I think I figured it out what the problem was and it worked perfectly afterwards. So when you were trying to manually divide rooms in the video I noticed that even though you placed the line where it needed to go, the black circles on the end of the dividing line either had one or both ends sitting on top of a mapped wall or outside of the floor plan all together. Now you'd think the app would just put the divide in that spot inside the floor plan but my guess is that the app was probably like, "hey that divide goes outside i cant go out there" , which is the exact same thing for me. But what got it to work is that when you divide the rooms you can pinch and zoom in on your Floorplan in the app and when both black cirlces are inside the floor plan or not intersecting walls or ontop of walls it worked perfectly fine for me without an issue. I'd give that a try. Same thing happened to me prior to that on the no go lines because my living room has a small section that used to be a screened in porch and sometime in the last the previous owners took down the wall and screen and closed in that area and putting in glass doors making it part of the interior and there is about a 2 inch step there. Now for what ever reason the carpet on that step that covers the edge down to the tile of old porch area is rounded at a shallow angle sort of speak instead of being 90 degrees, so becauae of that for some reaon or another all three of the robots I've owned over the years ( Deebot N79SE, Roomba 960, and Deebot T8+) id say 90% of the time dont register that as a step and end up going over and getting stuck between the two levels or gets down to the other level but of course cant get back up so the job doesn't get done. Was annoying with the N79SE because I had to watch it and use the remote to turn it when it got there or barricade that area, then the roomba had the that portable virtual wall thing, but the nogo lines are the best with the T8.

    So, I have the T5 and it’s essentially the exact same as this one. I had the same problem with where the app doesn’t recognize some drawn lines no matter how you do it - I had to REALLY spend some time and finally got it to work after remapping my house a couple of times. I had a previous deeboot 601 a couple of years ago and it didn’t do this, so I think it’s an app glitch. I had the i7+ before this and I think the deebot is way superior.

    • @bryanheald6967
      @bryanheald6967 3 роки тому

      I had the same problem as well but pretty sure I discovered the issue or maybe I was just lucky and the app decided to work at that point idk. But It wouldn't let me divide my living room and dining room up kept giving the same error as in the video until I hit the phone weird and noticed it lets you pinch and zoom on the floor plan. When i did that and got in close it let me divide no problem. I think the issue was if you dont zoom and draw the line and the black balls on the two ends sit on top, intersect, or go outside the walls of the house/floor plan my guess is that the app won't automatically adjust the end of the nogo lines or room dividing line to be inside two barriers when one or both of the ends sit on, through, or outside of a barrier even though it may look like they're within and not exceeding barriers when zoomed out, they may slightly be when you zoom in. Now idk for sure if this is actually the cause everyone has or have had with this including myself, but after the discovery of the zoom I've never had a problem with the app since. Granted ecovacs needs to fix this issue and make it to where you can draw and the lines adjust automatically according to the barriers. Also there needs to be a dedicated button for self emptying without having to start and stop a job. I did read that if you turn off the setting that starts the vacuum base automatically that button should show up. But even though i want mine to automatically empty after each run I still was not able to find the setting to shut that off anywhere in the app.

    The mapping is tricky. You will have to divide the rooms more. However if you have a giant "green" area you cannot put a line partially in the "green" space. You have to make the line go from outside the green area to the outside of the other side of the green area. This would be much easier to respond if I could draw something... lol

  • @heraklen
    @heraklen 3 роки тому +2

    What i can see of the dividing problem you have is that you try to divide as if the room is smaller. You need to divide the whole colored area first. Then divide into smaller chunks. The app acts as the whole colored area is a room. The walls do not count, yet. But agree the app need some tuning. It need to be easier.

    I had mixed results with dividing rooms. You need to have dots at the end of the line, end at the room perimeter. The line goes from dotted to solid. Even knowing this, I only was able to successfully divide my map half the time.

    I’ve had a t8 aivi for about two months. It does a very good job on carpet, likewise hard flooring. Where it fails is maps and the app. It randomly moves walls and doors, merges rooms or breaks them up and it seems to struggle with most mats and furniture. The app is basic, and trying to merge or divide the rooms is frustrating as hell. Support is based in China so that is also not great. I’ve asked their support people why there is no map backup.... to date I got a garbled reply with screenshots that didn’t match what I saw in the app. Yes, it does a good job at the basic clean but the frustrations probably make me disinclined to recommend this thing. Just to add, I found it mapped better if you mostly closed doors, too much open plan layout seems to give it a seizure, and merging or dividing just needs a replace because it is utter rubbish functionality.

      I was between those two and I got the Deebot with the awesome Best Buy sale on Oct. 13th. I love the cleaning power of the T8+. It picks up so much I am so happy with it. Biggest issues I have: apparently my couch and one of my chairs hang just a little too low because even though the Deebot fits underneath with no issue...it must be the lidar system that believes it is too low. The second is I have an English Cream Retriever (think Golden Retriever with a white coat) who sheds a lot. The Deebot picks up so much of his hair it gets stuck and doesn't auto empty (auto empty feature happens but everything stays in the vaccum bin). We had been running it every two days so I am changing it to basically do smaller jobs and empty in between to see if that solves the issue. I have not had any mapping issues when I have merged or divided rooms..though I agree their app could use an update.
      Overall, I spent under $500 for an amazing Deebot robot that actually vacuums and cleans up all the dog hair and a self-emptying bin...very happy overall. I am still experimenting but I love it.

    I'm still rocking Deebot R98 with a self empty bin. It has its own flaws mostly on the programming side of things, but I am this kind of person who likes to fiddle around with things. The cleaning perfomance is actually more than acceptable on that thing, the navigation is also good, but the app and the fact that it looses the map very easily are the only real flaws, but even if it looses the map, you just take it and put it back on the carging dock always by hand, and then the map recovery will appear no matter what. None of this is really explained anywhere, the customer service of ecovacs is horrible, no real repair parts available, but I have fixed these on component level so no need to buy new modules.
    It is extremely sad they still seem to have the same problems on the app than 2017 models had, although they seem to ha e added quite a lot of features, which don't work though. I think deebots have their own market, but the customer experience is the most horrible I've ever had on any company before.

I've had two runs since then where it didn't do the whole house. I tried adding on the rest of the house in a second run, and it found the rest and vacuumed it, but apparently it doesn't add onto the map. I deleted that and started fresh, and had another run where it didn't save the map. I'm not getting too attached, if it can't do this - back it goes to Amazon. The old schedules with areas that no longer existed (for example "G" wasn't there any more) were ghosted out, I couldn't edit them, nor delete them. The other issue is the emptier. Since then, it has once again lost part of the map changes to the kitchen where I did a divide of the area to divide it from the living room. It's back to one room again. I didn't bother to divide it again, as that messes up the schedules, then I will have even more ghosted schedules laying around I can't delete or edit. Every so often, it skips areas, like a walk in closet, or part of the kitchen, no big deal, as it gets it next time. But sometimes it fails to do the entire scheduled run, like this morning. I checked, and saw nothing wrong in the app. I do love the vacuum keeping our house lots cleaner with all the dog hair. But with these problems, and Ecovac not even responding to a problem - it isn't looking good for this vacuum. What about during the warranty period, if ecovacs won't respond, then it is the same as having zero warranty. A lot of these issues are software issues. But the emptier not running it's entire 15 or 20 second empty, and after less than a second turning off and giving me the red light and the software telling me to remove the two doors for the emptier - is that a software issue? One thing, you can’t create a divide from another divide line, it has to be created from 2 walls, another thing, is to create a divide line the black line has to be solid not perforated. I’m not saying it will always work if it’s solid, but for sure it will not work if it’s not. I’ve been lucky I guess, I have not have any issues dividing with my T8 like I did at times with my 950. I have the T8 for about two months now and its room dividing function does not work after dividing a room horizontally or vertically. After that, no matter how you try to divide the room vertically or horizontally the function fails. However, as you saw in Adam's video, you can divide any room at an angle without a problem. Ridiculous to say the least. Lastly, Ecovacs support is the worst. If you contact them, you will never get an answer that provides a resolution or a straightforward answer. I have emailed Ecovacs with pictures of the problem several times and it still has not been fixed. One failing of the T8 is that it does not like thresholds or area carpets. When it encounters the edges, it will randomly go in circles like it's confused. Lastly, Ecovacs needs to allow the user to turn off the drop sensors. I have area carpets with geometric patterns with dark to light patterns. The T8 loses its mind in these situations since it believes that it has encountered a drop-off. My solution was to blind the drop sensors by putting two pieces of masking tape over each.

      @@AdamsReviews Thanks! Just re-purchased this from Best Buy for $449 after returning my first one. Hopefully, I’ll have a better experience with this one when it arrives in two days. I have a sneaky suspicion that the app is the main problem with Ecovacs in general. It blows me away that they could let Roborock pull ahead in the app category!?!?

    I have tested ecovacs products before and they have been always unstable. Horrible firmware and softaware and always navigational problems. Maps are going to get deleted and you will have eventually spots that are not cleaned. Hardware is okish when it does not fail. They update robots only few times before releasing a new robot and promising to correct all bugs but they create new ones and the circle goes round and round. As you I have tested the M7/ Neabot and acutally it navigates better than T8 in our 2800sf house. But our roborock s5 max crushes everything and is the most stable robot of them all.
    BTW can you test the self emptying with hairs and dust but full dustbin?

      My self empty feature so far clogs every time with dog hairs. It gets all the way full and there's no hope it will empty. I'm hoping it will catch up with the dog hair, but I also set it up to separate the rooms with schedules. The downstairs it will do in three runs, with three empties. Hopefully that will fix the clogging issue when it does the entire downstairs in one run. The little slot where it sucks it out needs to be a little larger or something. I've only had it three days, so we'll see if this new schedule thing tomorrow fixes that clog issue.

    I love this robot. I actually have three of them because I am amazed by how well it performs. I have never had an issue with any of them. There three of them always come back to their bases and the maps are pretty good to me. I was able to modify the maps really easy. Overall I believe it all comes down to how well your wifi signal is throughout the house. I will attached some pictures of my three robot’s maps. There is one of them that is working in a two floor house and has created two maps (one for each floor) and they are really good as well. Thank you for the video
