This is what I wrote to a recent reaction: Tuomas had an idyllic childhood. Dead Boy and Ocean Soul are his alter egos. Whenever Tuomas was troubled, he would remember the happy boy he had been - the child now 'dead'. "Meadows of Heaven" are a reference to the countryside around his childhood home where he spent so much time. It was Tuomas as a young man who failed to find the love he craved. He has said that his songs are from the diary of his life. This song was about how he wanted to be remembered when he died - for his music. It's an apology to all those he felt he'd disappointed in life. The lines "wrote for the eclipse, wrote for the virgin, died for the beauty, the one in the garden" are references to some of his earlier songs. But he eventually found Johanna , and the love he'd looked for for so long. That's when his music began to look outward towards the stars, instead of inwards to his pain.
🤣And then I reacted: Nice explanation with the alter ego perspective. I feel this song is also about growing into adulthood. Where the (innocent) inner boy had to "die" to make room for for an adult Tuomas that had to make tough life decisions where he could no longer please everyone. But the child-Tuomas will still remain in the music he wrote. extra: Tuomas wrote this song in 1999/2000 when he was only 23(-ish)
Love letter to Nobody... referring to Nemo? A wish for the Night... Nightwish. Lots of Easter eggs. From what I understand, this was sort of his eulogy, what he wanted to say to everyone when he left the world. Ocean soul is also in many of his lyrics... he often, often has those themes and references from one song to another. Song of Myself is another one with many references to previous songs.
@@ThomFoolery1 Thomas, you know this by now, boy, poet, dreamer, writer are all Tuomas pseudonyms. Nothing is ever wasted with Tuomas lyrics or backdrops, but you have to really dig deep. It seems his parents did not recognise his character either, but I have struggled with "failed at becoming a God", maybe the full recognition by his parents, I don't know. Tuomas has said he does not explain lyrics, you have to decide, just like a master work painting, you have to see in it what you believe, he likened it to interviewing Da Vinci about the Mona Lisa, if we knew everything behind that, he says, the magic and attraction would be lost. I feel like I say this a ton, but this is legitimately one of my all time favorite Nightwish performances. Just blew my mind the first time I saw it. So great.
This is a sad song, but strangely uplifting and beautiful... This song is about a young boy who is misunderstood. He never has had anyone close or anyone at all to talk to, so his music is what he lives for and is where he puts his feelings. His music gives him the push to keep on living and he puts everything into it. He tries to improve his life but whatever he does, he can never get back to the way he used to be. He says that people shouldn't ask for a better world because the world has already been made and been done. In the talking part of the song, he is telling people not to remember him but to remember the music that was his life. He wants a mother's lap to sit on, he just wants to be loved. He cares about the world but he feels like he is just a waste of space because he has nothing and no one to love him he is just like an ocean - abused - and is just a very lonely boy and it is just his "bitter farewell." PS: Tuomas had a very happy childhood. So this is his inner feelings ( what a special person ). Thank you Thomas for this Reaction !!!! NWSU
Thanks Thomas for doing my favorite Nightwish song, it’s so beautiful ❣️ Chills every time. A new great song was released by Floor and Henk covering ‘Dangerous games’ from Jekyll and Hyde.
Hee heee my freind when you meet your big friend again, always nice and fun to see you together watching and listening to Nigthwisch please ask him again.fin to see you together greetings from the Dutch
A beautiful song and done so so well. They all are just beautiful people and they make you FEEL the music and not just hear it. Empuu's expressions, and his just awesome solo. Floor well what's to say here...just magnificent. Hope you do some more soon :D
Great reaction, Thomas. As others have said, Dead Boy is a character that appears throughout Tuomas' work and seems to refer to himself. Tuomas has said that this song is the letter he would write to the world if it was his last. He expresses his gratitude for some people and his despite for others. At the time it was written, he said it was his most biographical and self-reflective song. Of course, that was before the pieces included on the album Dark Passion Play.
Thom....Great reaction, thank you. This is by FAR my favorite Nightwish / Floor performance. So much emotion, I tear up every time. I have heard two totally different takes on this song. Most often.... it is about his own childhood trials and tribulations. The second.... it is his alter ego and he had wonderful childhood with a loving family. I don't know ! Looking forward to your next NW reaction. Be well.
I think it could be both. Happy childhood, nice family, but still alone, not understood (highly sensitive persona, feeling too much from around himself, needing nature to calm down). The documentary about him was very revealing, gave me more understanding of what he has been through, how it affected him. "Maan Mainiot Tuomas Holopainen"
Hi Thomas, i love all your Reactions, but this one is in my Opinion, the emotional one. Your fight against your tears in the first part until Emppu ends his solo is phenomenal. Every time i see this Video, i have the same Fight like you.🥰
I’ve been absorbing some within temptation and the new album from evanescence. So I’ve put nightwish aside for a bit. And then Thom has to post this. So it’s back to Buenos Aires for me !! Lol Just can’t stay away for too long, and that speaks to the amazing people in this band( present and previous). I’ve watched hundreds of videos it feels like in the last year of quarantine, and I don’t regret a single minute. It has brought so much musical exploring for me. I feel almost foolish for writing off metal since high school in the 80’s. I was a punk rocker so no one I knew listened to metal. This is so much more than that metal. Don’t get it twisted I understand without those bands this wouldn’t be here. Everything has an evolution. This is the most amazing metal music to me. It’s the biggest contradiction of terms with many amazing bands in the genre.
When Tarja left the band I remember I thought Nightwish was over. I think Tuomas is the soul of the band but Tarjia was the perfect vehicle. But yeah, Floor is amazing too and here we are.
There is so much genius in this work that it is difficult to know where to begin. Everything, from the stage set to the lyrics to the music itself has a purpose. Floor's heart-rendingly beautiful performance is beyond comparison - only she could deliver the emotional truth of this work. There is so much more here to understand. Note the swans in the background - these are the swans of Tuonela, said in Finnish mythology to be the conveyors of souls to the afterlife. Note how the boy has his arms raised in the hope and the longing of embracing that journey, yet - there he remains. It's worth a listen to Sibelius' The Swan of Tuonela to see where part of Tuomas ' inspiration came from. Here's Herbert von Karajan and the Berliner Philharmoniker: ua-cam.com/video/HjyLWoJvtME/v-deo.html. Exquisite. Emppu's ravishingly beautiful guitar solo is David Gilmour class in the way it conveys the sadness, the anguish of a soul who has been left behind in a lonely and forsaken world. It's a cry of anguish, reinforced by the funereal march of the music behind and complementing the solo. You'll hear that same sort of expression in David Gilmour's last solo of Pink Floyd's Comfortably Numb. I always felt that towards the end, it became the funeral march of a lost and tormented soul. All of the anguish and regret of something glimpsed and lost is distilled and channeled into one extended searing cry. So it is with Emppu's solo, yet it is so deftly and effortlessly woven into this masterpiece of Tuomas' that you don't quite realize what it's doing to you. Note that there is none of Emppu's usual smirking or goofing around in this one. He is dead serious (excuse the pun) and it shows in his expression. So much so that he has to turn away from the audience when he is done. And then there's Floor. This is the most emotional performance I have yet seen from her. She feels all of the passion, sorrow, despair, longing and even anger in every note of this epic piece. She becomes the song and then she sings right into your soul and utterly wrecks it. It hits so hard. If this doesn't have tears streaming down your face, then you have no understanding and no soul.
Floors voice, emotive, reaching in to your heart, too many onions. Marco jamming with Troy, awesome. Emppu stays sombre (most of the time), which is unusual, is he HS too? (highly likely). The chanting at the end: "Floor, Floor, Floor" (they bought tickets for Annette, and get Floor instead!)
Nice to have you back at Nightwish 4:45 That's so true. 😁 Yes Tuomas is the poet / little boy 10:48 Floor's Superhero-Pose 😁 13:03 Super as well, I introduced it. Not Euflooria... Youflooria 😁 I'm really happy that you're more into the lyrics 👍
Thomas you should do this hole concert, like a "special". It's fantastic and includes some oldies that sound astonishing, it shows a lot of facets of the band. Looking forward to it. Cheers mate! PS: Just look at the setlist: End of All Hope, Wish I Had an Angel, 10th Man Down, Come Cover Me, Gethsemane, Élan, Sacrament of Wilderness, Deep Silent Complete, Dead Boy's Poem, Elvenjig, Elvenpath, I Want My Tears Back, Amaranth, The Carpenter, The Kinslayer, Devil & the Deep Dark Ocean, Nemo, Slaying the Dreamer, The Greatest Show on Earth, Ghost Love Score.
This song is one of my absolute all time favourites from early Nightwish. It's such an emotional masterpiece that also includes one of their most beautiful guitar solos they have ever written imho. I'm genuinely glad to see you enjoy it this much, even to a point of zoning out several times. ♥ I'm not sure if you have already reacted to their "Beauty of the Beast". If not, you should do so. It's another longer piece written in acts and at least to me personally has a similar vibe like DBP. Would love to see your thoughts on this one day!
Most of the songs written by Tuomas before the Floor era have a personal influence in some degree. Certainly when words as 'Poet', 'Boy', '(Ocean) Soul' appear, you can be sure these songs are very personal. In Floor he has a new muse however and he left all that behind now.
"Forgive the adoring ...beast" - is another synonym for himself. Honestly I guess that the feelings he has been confronted with in many of his earlier songs were those he felt for Tarja. But yeah, it's over now, Tuomas buried that Ego in "The Poet and the Pendulum". As we know it ended with an Happy End. In 2009 Tuomas met his wife Johanna, who preferred more sensitive men, like him and in 2012 he could win Floor for Nightwish' lead vocals. What more can you wish ?
Amazing, Powerful, Sensational, Perfection, etc. Take your pick. I love GLS, PATP and TGSOE but I love this one better. This song is genius in the hands of either Tarja or Floor.
Oh dear, you haven´t checked out Wishmaster yet! Not a melancholic one though. I love the pre-Marko era live version from DVD From Wishes To Eternity, filmed in Pakkahuone, Tampere 2000: ua-cam.com/video/9wRYZkwvBIM/v-deo.html For me this was the golden era of Tarja´s vocals, before she studied opera big time. And they´re all practically toddlers still 😄 Good luck with the lyrics, utter gibberish, especially the misheard ones are hilarious 😅
Hi Thomas, firstly I knew you'd love this one and secondly I have to thank you for rounding off what has been a near perfect day for me with England beating Germany for the first time in a knock out tournament since 1966. I've had a few Laphroaigs in celebration. I've heard this song a thousand times and never get bored of it - the more times you listen to it , the more you appreciate it's brilliance both in musical composition and lyrically. Not sure what you haven't covered that you might like but I would suggest 'Bless the Child' - a really lovely tune and a very memorable middle eight/transition. Look forward to hearing more. Take good care of yourself.

Floor: talk about hitting the audience into the feels and drowning what's left of them in the sea of emotions Tuomas: dead boy imaginary is strong with this one Marko: only thing better than Marko playing his bass is Marko solo playing his double neck Emppu: lovely guitar work and a tasteful solo as usual Kai: backbone of the band, precise and on point Troy: additional sound of a bouzouki brings so much more to the sound of this version in comparison to the album version summary = another killer song May I suggest another Nightwish song? Have you heard Sahara (live in Tampa) yet?
This one is VERY emotional, it´s a roller-coaster, very beautiful, very intense. If I´m not mistaken, it´s about the fact that Tuomas did not feel understood as an artist by his parents? Please someone correct me, if I´m wrong. Nevertheless, I always have teary eyes after this one. One of my favorites.
Keep doing this show, when it comes to Floor it contains the older songs in their catalogue that you don't have in others. Or you can also do the original versions with Tarja as well.

He cares about the world but he feels like he is just a waste of space because he has nothing and no one to love him he is just like an ocean - abused - and is just a very lonely boy and it is just his "bitter farewell."
PS: Tuomas had a very happy childhood. So this is his inner feelings ( what a special person ).
Thank you Thomas for this Reaction !!!!
NWSU
Interesting! Thanks so much for sharing, Timo. 😃
i love this song .....good reaction
And i love it that you know, that Nightwish is not only Floor, Tuomas and Marco.
Thanks Thomas for doing my favorite Nightwish song, it’s so beautiful ❣️
Chills every time.
Danke, immer ein schönes lied..
Emppu, the most underrated Giutarplayer, he ist not a poser, but he is everytime on point.
Glad to see a Buenos Aires reaction.
I love your comment, nice to see you are a big fan! Greets from the Netherlands 🌷 🇳🇱
Such a beautiful song. This never gets old.
"A manual to an electric toothbrush" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Excellent Thomas
Good reaction. Great song. One of my favorites. Especially this performance. Got goosebumps every time i see it. Thank you for this reaction.
Thanks a lot mate!
Can‘t watch it right now.
I love this song and I pretty sure that the song got you as well. It‘s such an emotional one.
Can’t listen this without tearing up. It was one of my favs with Tarja and even more now with Floor.
Never disappoints.
I'm in BC in the heatwave too. Stay cool buddy.
1056pm and still 30c outside here in the mountains ... lol
Isn't it just awful! Not to be dramatic but I think it's the actual apocalypse.
Great reaction as usual! “10th man down” from the same concert is a great choice too!
Be well.
Interesting thoughts. Thanks for sharing, Thomas 🙂
I think it could be both.
Happy childhood, nice family,
but still alone, not understood (highly sensitive persona, feeling too much from around himself, needing nature to calm down).
The documentary about him was very revealing, gave me more understanding of what he has been through, how it affected him. "Maan Mainiot Tuomas Holopainen"
If I had to choose one song from NW, this would be it! Love it, always brings me to tears ❤
Hi Thomas, i love all your Reactions, but this one is in my Opinion, the emotional one. Your fight against your tears in the first part until Emppu ends his solo is phenomenal. Every time i see this Video, i have the same Fight like you.🥰
1st! thanks for this one, nice reaction.😎
Thank you, Thomas. Really nice reaction.
Yes, I think nightwish is best experienced with lyrics or subtitles when available. So much complexity, adds a whole another level to the song.
Welcome back to live Nightwish Thomas 🤟
One of my favourites! Thnx for the great reaction!
I love that toothbrush manual remark
Great reaction Thomas ... you would have to see all that show if you have not done it yet you will love it.😉
I want to! The crowd is brilliant. 👏
@@ThomFoolery1 We're a little euphoric 😁
Floors voice, emotive, reaching in to your heart, too many onions.
Marco jamming with Troy, awesome.
Emppu stays sombre (most of the time), which is unusual, is he HS too? (highly likely).
The chanting at the end: "Floor, Floor, Floor" (they bought tickets for Annette, and get Floor instead!)
excelent reaccion !! kiss desde Argentina !!
Emppu and Petrucci sound alike in my opinion, love it!
Nice to have you back at Nightwish
4:45 That's so true. 😁
Yes Tuomas is the poet / little boy
10:48 Floor's Superhero-Pose 😁
13:03 Super as well, I introduced it. Not Euflooria... Youflooria 😁
I'm really happy that you're more into the lyrics 👍
Haha! Thank you my friend. 😄🤘
Thanks Mariano! That sounds like a great idea! 🤔😄👍
This song is one of my absolute all time favourites from early Nightwish. It's such an emotional masterpiece that also includes one of their most beautiful guitar solos they have ever written imho. I'm genuinely glad to see you enjoy it this much, even to a point of zoning out several times. ♥
I'm not sure if you have already reacted to their "Beauty of the Beast".
If Floor sings, Stonehenge must cry.😭
if you know you know Empuu playes his signature EV-1 wich is based off of the ESP Horizon.
Oh dear, you haven´t checked out Wishmaster yet! Not a melancholic one though. I love the pre-Marko era live version from DVD From Wishes To Eternity, filmed in Pakkahuone, Tampere 2000:
ua-cam.com/video/9wRYZkwvBIM/v-deo.html
For me this was the golden era of Tarja´s vocals, before she studied opera big time. And they´re all practically toddlers still 😄 Good luck with the lyrics, utter gibberish, especially the misheard ones are hilarious 😅
Ooh interesting! I should check out the super early era stuff. Kiitos!
You need to react to Nightwish's "Sleeping Sun" singing by Tarja with Steve'n'Seaguls. IT'S JUST AMAZING!
Hey David! Thanks for the kind words man. I'm glad to be a part of this great day for you!
I also watched the match today. It gave me absolute goosebumps. Perfect occasion for some whisky! Cheers 🥃
@@ThomFoolery1 thanks for your gracious reply Thomas. Just checked your Nightwish play list for Nightwish and you haven't as yet reacted to 'Bless the Child' - I only found out today that it's Floor's 2nd favourite song - guessing GLS is the favourite! I'm very patient as I know you'll cover it at some point. Take care
@@honorarythamesman5732 oh that sounds interesting! Is there a particular performance you recommend?
@@ThomFoolery1 this is going to be a surprise....Wacken 2013 would you believe!! I think she had a bit of a wardrobe malfunction or dress change and got to the microphone just in time for the first line!
Floor: talk about hitting the audience into the feels and drowning what's left of them in the sea of emotions
Tuomas: dead boy imaginary is strong with this one
Marko: only thing better than Marko playing his bass is Marko solo playing his double neck
Emppu: lovely guitar work and a tasteful solo as usual
Kai: backbone of the band, precise and on point
Troy: additional sound of a bouzouki brings so much more to the sound of this version in comparison to the album version
summary = another killer song
May I suggest another Nightwish song? Have you heard Sahara (live in Tampa) yet?
Great summary! Not yet but Sahara is definitely high on the to-do list!
Shout out to Kais' drums, though 🥁
This one is VERY emotional, it´s a roller-coaster, very beautiful, very intense. If I´m not mistaken, it´s about the fact that Tuomas did not feel understood as an artist by his parents? Please someone correct me, if I´m wrong. Nevertheless, I always have teary eyes after this one. One of my favorites.
His parents have allways support him.
AURI: Pearl Diving Official Lyrical Video. Tuomas wife Johanna, Troy.
Kiitos :) THOMAS Laurenne / Louhimo ( Netta Laurenne & Noora Louhimo ) - " Bitch Fire " official music video.
You didnt did this one😀 great reaction again friend, en pleaseee make nightwish or Floor a weekly thing😀
Keep doing this show, when it comes to Floor it contains the older songs in their catalogue that you don't have in others. Or you can also do the original versions with Tarja as well.
Try Floor Janssen and Henk Poort new wane, its amezing
Great reaction Thomas. I love the switch up in this song. It's sounds like it's on the offbeat but works a treat! Have you reacted to British band Sleep Token? They're an anonymous collection of musicians who wear hooded robes and masks and the lead singer goes by the name of Vessel. They just released this song, Alkaline, last week. Enjoy ua-cam.com/video/uU5vVT_Cp7c/v-deo.html
Is this version just a little faster than the original?
😊🇫🇮🤘❤️🎶🎹🎸🥁✨👍
Hey buddy! Yeah, tough lyrics to interpret... Go and try to decipher a beautiful mind like that...
If any song of theirs should make it to the 'holy four', I think this one should be it, hands down. Great reaction Thomas, I hope you're doing more songs from this concert, Floor singing songs that before were only shot live when Tarja was still lead singer.
Furthermore, try keeping it cool during this heatwave over there buddy, and remember, this too shall pass 😅 And besides, all we got here is buckets of rain so...😓 I'll trade you in a heartbeat! C U later 🎼🎶🔊🤘
Dank Je, my good friend! Yes, I can see how this is a big one.
Yes, I am piece of roast beef right now. It reached 49c in our province today 🤯. I hope we get some of your rain soon. 😂
tenes que escuchar Galneryus bro
👍👍👍🇳🇱🤘🤘🤘☑️
Şebnem ferah 'delgeç' 2007 please ^^
The next reaction is
Nemophila-Dissension
Please🤟🤟
It's on my to-do list 😉
Tuomas is such a genius. I'm not saying he is the only one, but he definitely belongs along side Darwin, Pink Floyd, Newton, Nicky Minaj... (just kidding)
Running out of superlatives is not uncommon in attempting to describe anything by Nightwish!
Finns are The most happiest pessimists in this world 😏
Let me divert you on another path. Maybe you have come across her already but I've not seen any reactions by you.
I know you enjoyed Eivør and that's about as close as you have got to Aurora.
Setting: Nidarosdomen (a cathedral in Trondheim, Norway) and a single voice accompanied by the giant cathedral organ and a choir ...
Aurora : "Lucky" ua-cam.com/video/AmTiqR2_VAw/v-deo.html
2 dagar till en ny release, en singel från det kommande albumet
Floor and Thomass EMPUU and the drummer ahhhhh Troy Marco are sho great deam good Floor voice epic amezing good
Marco wil by back nexs seizoen. Thats a promes, realy
Hi Thomas You have to do Tarja's version.
Floor Jansen - Vilja lied | Beste Zangers 2019
Did that already. 🙂
@@ThomFoolery1 yes, really, I didn't notice))))Can you then make a reaction to this song, from the first group Floor? After Forever - Dreamflight Live ProgPower USA VIII (2007)
I like Floor's version but I prefer Tarja singing this one. Maybe check out her version at the "From Wishes to Eternity" concert
This is the only time I’ve felt a little bit of disappointment compared to the original with Tarja.
Lynda it is a waste of time comparing one singer with the other as both have different styles just enjoy for what it is. I enjoy all 3 singers as I do not compare just enjoy NW in whatever form.
@@stevenhopwood8195 I did enjoy it.
