You’re going on a theory because Sheldon didn’t mention his son’s namesake by name, Penny could’ve cared for their daughter while Leonard was at work, or something else. No, he is named after both Hofstadter and Nimoy. I hate when people say he is only named after Nimoy because that is obviously not true. Of course he is named mainly after Hofstadter. Sheldon was mainly joking when he said he wanted to make his middle name Nimoy.

The baby was NOT named as a Leonard "dead person" namesake because that particular Leonard was not DEAD. He was named after Leonard just because, not due to Leonard being dead.
