    When you get right down to the basics it's the taste and overall experience of a whisky that matter more than an age statement...

    Totally agree that there are plenty of quality NAS whiskies. The problem is when distillers take young whiskies, stick a fancy sounding name on the bottle in place of an age and then charge the same, or even more than they do for the older expressions.

    Great review guys. If you do the cask strength sherry shootout (which sounds awesome btw!), try to get the ‘Glengoyne Teapot Dram’ to test alongside the regular ‘Cask Strength’. It would be interesting to hear the differences and the the teapot dram is generally just scrumptious. Cheers

    STD, I have the Glengoyne 15 and its ok. I just ordered the Goyne CS batch 4 and Tamdhu batch 1 from TWE. Without tasting the Goyne CS yet, I can tell you it will be much better than the 15. The Ardbeg Ugi is fabulous. I wish I could just find the regular release of the Dark Cove. I've had a sample of the Dalmore King from MOM and it was very watery. I know alot of people like it, so I would have to sit down with a couple drams to give it a fair review. Ardbeg rocks. Great review.

    One of the reasons for different abvs in different countries is due to the amount of duty/tax different countries pay on alcohol, in the UK we pay lots

    • @ScotchTestDummies

    Good article fella plenty of range although the Valkyrie, lets move on and the Lore is pretty poor in my humble book. Good to see a Deanston involved, not huge on the Glenlivet. The 'Goyne is solid enough. One I'd recommend although its without peat or sherry is the Glen Garioch Founders Reserve as it really grows on you. More indicative of the reopened style so without the peat of bygone Glen Gariochs I was surprised by it.

    TALISKER STORM REVIEW

  • @Andrew-lb1up
    @Andrew-lb1up 7 років тому +1

    Well, STDs, you went into the realm of NAS. It was a risky move, but one that was necessary. My take away from the video, as well as discussions on Connsr.com is that:
    1. There will always be a group of people who will 'not' buy NAS.
    1.a There will always be a group of people who will 'not' buy NAS (or claim they don't buy them).
    2. There will always be people who will buy 'some' NAS whisk(e)y.
    2.a There always be a group of people who will buy 'some' NAS whisk(e)y, but would prefer if the distilleries just gave age statements, even if the age (that is printed on the bottle) is a single digit.
    In the end, it's all about what an individual enjoys drinking. If you don't mind that there is no age statement on the bottle, and more importantly, enjoy what is inside the bottle (and can afford it), then buy it. I usually avoid getting into 'deep' debates about NAS because the discussion ends up going around in circles.
    I am glad you did this video; although, I would have had a few different bottles in my list (haha). I must admit, it would be interesting (as you mentioned in some of your replies to other posts) to do blends, or world whiskies. I know a few Japanese NAS whisky I would have on my list. I guess that is one for another video. HA!

    • @ScotchTestDummies
      @ScotchTestDummies  7 років тому

      All great points Andrew. Bottom line is there are some good NAS whiskies out there, and if you simply don't try or buy them because there is not an age statement, then you are missing out on some good whiskies.

    • @Andrew-lb1up
      @Andrew-lb1up 7 років тому

      I do wonder how many of the NAS nay sayers would truly buy whiskies that had an age statement of 4, 5 or 6 years. I personally wouldn't let it bother me too much. I think the youngest stated bottle of whisky I have is the Bruichladdich Laddie 8. It is a good dram, and is definitely one I would love to have a few bottles in storage for future drinking.

    you should boycott NAS scotch. If some of these bottles had age statement, you would be retailing for half price. Also peat and (sweet) sherry can mask young or rough whisky..

      Why would we boycott that? The proof of value is in the free market already. If you boycott the Dark Cove CR I buy two bottles. And would buy two more if I could find them for the same price today. Bart

      You can buy as many as dark coves you want, but if dark coves had an age statement, Ardbeg would be charging you less, trust me. There are obviously exceptions, and old whisky is not necessarily better. But because older age comes with higher price as a rule, I am just saying that NAS bottles (often with fancy names and packaging) are a mechanism for companies to command higher price for younger whisky. I personally don't reward such bottles with my dollars. And for certain brands their NAS are actually rubbish (Look for example all the Taliskers NAS, which are not better than the lovely 10 year old). In the end, if the companies make excellent young whisky, why not put an honest age statement on the bottle? I would buy it..

      good points chrontzos. I would have to agree with the Talisker statement. We've only done the 10 year and most of the reviews i've seen with the others aren't too favorable.

      Hey Alan, your grammar and sentence structure is atrocious. You probably don't know what atrocious means. It means it is really bad. Your northern education is lacking. You probably don't know what lacking means. It means you are an uneducated northern asshole.
