    Following even before Obelix. And have answered “no he hasn’t finished the boat yet” to many gfs throughout all these years whom were trying to understand why I was so obsessively following this channel. So finally seeing you guys sailing, this surely was a special episode. Fair winds and may your keel never touches the ground. Hope to meet one day in person!

      Yep the wife keeps asking "is he ever going to finish that?"lol I'm so happy you are finally on the water, now to get Ava squared away with legalities and your golden. Then you can slow back down and take a deep breath. Much peace and fair winds my friends.

    I love how Mads refers to Athena's refit as a "somewhat extensive refit...". That's like saying that the Atlantic is a somewhat large body of water.

    • @urlkrueger

      I've been confused for a long time if Mads was saying "extensive" or "expensive".

    Mads & Ava . . . may you have fair winds and following seas to all of your ports of call. After all of your hard DIY work in the past five years you BOTH have earned it!!!!
    BTW, you might get 8 or 10 "rocker stopper's" you suspend 5 off of the boom of your mast (as far as you can extend extend the boom from the rail). The other 4 or 5 rocker stoppers you hang off a cleat - amidships is best - opposite the 4 or five hanging from the boom. It will virtually eliminate any rocking when tied up, on a mooring buoy or at anchor. At the bottom of each set of the rocker stoppers I usually suspend 20 pounds of lead weights (from my weight belt for diving).

In fact, I had bought a boat, cruised the eastern seaboard of the U.S. Visited the Caribbean, and sailed up the gulf side of Florida, moved back to land and sold the boat, all while you were still doing your refit. Hi Guys, Congratulations. Be aware that some of the Bridges in the Standing Mastroute are out of Order, so that you might not be able to us the whole route. If you are within the Ijsselmeer you may take a route via the Noordzeechannel from Amsterdam to Ijmuiden. the harbour in Ijmuiden on the seaside is nice.

  • @jasperved
    @jasperved 2 роки тому +8

    A bridge on the "Staande mast route" in Leeuwarden is broken, for at least 2 weeks more, you can take the route to Harlingen, but not to Stavoren. If weather permits it might be better to go outside to Vlieland or Terschelling (or Den Helder)

    • @jaromkes
      @jaromkes 2 роки тому

      Don't need the northern route, from Terschelling or den helder over the wadden sea, IJssellake and marker lake to Amsterdam, take the standing mast route south from there. Or from IJmuiden if you can make it an extra leg over sea. On the lakes you can pick either the west or east side so with west or east winds your pretty sheltered. Amsterdam is a nightly crossing which is a nice experience, and trough the dutch low lands is the best way to see the country, quite beautiful even this time of year. Enjoy!

    Hi mads and eva, if you plan on the standing mast route from Den Helder to Amsterdam, just know that the “Coenbrug” in Zaanstad closed. There is an altarnative route to Nauwena/zijkanaal D but then the max safe height is 18,30m due to a powerline. Also near Leeuwarden the trainbridge has maintenance closure. Please prepare your routes. A night trip through Amsterdam is a very nice experiance. Den Helder to Amsterdam can normally be done in 1 long day but the alternative route has some unconnecting bridges. But other then this: welcome to my country and enjoy it if you can!! It is perfect for sailing!!

      Only 100 nm fom IJmuiden to Lowestoft in the UK and then Ava is safe and will not be kicked out of the EU for overstaying her visa. Being sailed out with Mads is way better!

    Could i suggest getting some straps for your glasses in case you loose a set over the side fendering or the like, i know if i lost mine i would be absolutely scuppered on the chart table. Congrats on the start of your wet adventure together.

    He finally starts sailing after 7 years of videos and he still manages to just stand in the salon showing documents and talking about taxes. Incredible dedication to the theme.

    Great video. Great to see you finally start the really great adventure. Great coverage of your first few 100 nautical miles! That bodes well for what follows. Look forward to seeing you get close to me in Belgium.

    Congratulations guys, I have been watching your videos for 7 years, and it's sooo cool to see that you have untied the lines and set sail. Hopefully one day you might make it to New Zealand. All the best and safe travels.

    Congratulations! It is so nice to see you both under sail and making progress. It doesn't seem like you had too many issues on the shake-down cruise. Good luck going forward!
