    • @subliminal6529
      @subliminal6529 7 років тому +34

      Probably; for instance, a 0.25 carats is a very small diamond, sot they needed to close up in order to see anything. For the second one, I would say that it was something like 5.0 carats more or less, so, maybe it was a moissanite, because I don't believe that they could worth a real diamond of that size.

    • @RyanLS
      @RyanLS 7 років тому +19

      No, that second one was huge. It'd be like 2 or 3 ct. Weight. No way they are spending a few grand on an experiment. Trust me, I just got done ring shopping for my fiance. That thing is big.

      Me auto-intitulo Vingador do Além e este é o meu canal. Minha vingança encontra-se na minha reação ao que não presta e minha luta contra o que destruiu meu país e a sua cultura. Sou contra as políticas de esquerda vitimista e hipócrita, contra a islamização do ocidente e contra a cessação das liberdades individuais. Luto pelo desenvolvimento de uma direita política "conservadora" nos costumes e "liberal" economicamente. Sou absolutamente contrário ao comunismo-socialismo, ao fascismo, ao nazismo, ao islamismo e ao totalitarismo, bem como contra a imigração ilegal e a mídia hipócrita que omite os fatos verídicos se escondendo no vitimismo pra idiotizar a sociedade. Se você não gostou do que leu, problema seu. Saia do canal, pois ele é meu e eu faço do jeito que eu quiser. Estou aberto ao debate, mas não ache que eu serei tolerante com o que não me tolera.

      Os ideais da direita são melhores, mas todos os políticos devem morrer. Simples assim: não merecem mais viver.

    Well the second item simple isn't a diamond. The tip of the hydraulic press is also steel. May be a high strength steel, but it doesn't matter. If presented with the pointy end of a diamond, the effect will be as the first time - the diamond would embed itself in the tip of the press.

I’m positive if you got a hammer made out of the strongest steel and hit it with a lot of speed and strength that is equivalent to the hydraulic press strength that the diamond would still get dug into the metal very easily

    As a geology enthusiast the reason why your second diamond broke is if you watch carefully it goes to sink into the steel but the continued pressure on its cleavage or its breaking point cause the explosion of diamond fractals.
    Diamonds have four directions of cleavage and even the toughest of diamonds can break with a hard enough blow or even sliced through. Both are real diamonds, but both were pressed diferently.

      I worked in a jewelers for a summer in my teens. While beauty does in fact set the price of the stone, beauty is also READILY classified. The two most important factors being color, rated on a scale of D (colorless) through mostly M (can go to Z though) and clarity, rated FL (flawless) to I3 (obvious inclusions). Cut plays a role of course (looks like a "round brilliant" maybe), but not as much as the first two.
      If that stone was a .25ct VVS1 F, a VERY nice rock, it wouldn't be worth $2000. Unless prices of diamonds have gone up that much in the past ten years (and that's possible), I can't imagine what quality would command those prices. Mind you, I'm not saying you didn't pay that, I'm just trying to figure out why it was so much.
      Mind posting a link to the certificate? I'm not one for social media.

    All the people here are saying that diamonds are indestructible. They ARE the hardest natural substance, but hardness refers to the ability to scratch it, which means you can't make a scratch in its surface with anything. That doesn't mean it's indestructible. It has fault lines, which can make the diamond shatter under pressure. Before you bash this video guys, educate yourselves a bit more.

    • @edledskal9147
      @edledskal9147 6 років тому +27

      Yeah, there is something called the MOH's hardness scale in which diamond is at the top, but you can have inclusions and more specifically feather inclusions that can compromise the diamond. You can still get a nice diamond that sparkels with minimum carbon that happens to have a inclusion that the diamond can crack along.

    Diamonds really are not that rare or valuable. The only reason why they cost so much is due to 3 major companies owning about 90% of all the diamond mines in the world. They all agree to selling so many a year which helps a lot to keep the price up.
    If you go to a jewelry store and ask how much they will give you for a diamond ring you would laugh. They know very well how rare diamonds are.

    Real is rare? Diamonds aren't rare or expensive. Diamond ring and diamond providing companies lie about the rareness and therefor prices go through the roof meanwhile they have millions of diamond that are just sitting around until the diamond market nearly fires up and then they supply with just a few thousand diamonds making them seem rare. You sir have been lied to.

      based BONES You seem to think that just because someone vocalizes the disparity between the rarity of an object and its cost, that must mean they're some tinfoil hat wearing, conspiracy obsessed nut.
      Personally, I just thought it was interesting that diamonds were actually pretty common. I don't give a shit if the rest of the world knows it, because them buying diamonds doesn't effect me in the slightest.

      They actually are pretty rare. A sparce number of places on earth meet the right geological conditions required to produce diamond. South African conflict diamonds are extremely valuable for this reason, because South Africa mostly isn't among those geological conditions except for a few old coal mines.
