4:10 take a moment and read these graphics, they really explain Makarov’s origins and how he came about his wealth/militia. 4:18 - 4:29 Makarov was initially a high ranking member of the Russian military (Spetznaz officer to be exact), after extreme human rights abuses and association with known terrorists such as Imran Zakaev, Victor Zakaev and Al Assad AKA the four horsemen, the UN Security Council demanded an investigation be conducted into Makarov’s methods. Instead of allowing the council to investigate (which surely would’ve meant him receiving life in prison/the death penalty for his crimes) Makarov made a deal with the council in which he willingly resigned from his role in the military in 1996, Makarov’s resignation appeased the council and they decided not to investigate him because they thought he was no longer a threat and the issue had been resolved, boy did they have another thing coming. Although his affiliation with the Russian federation was ended his mentor Imran Zakaev saw him as a worthy successor to his metaphorical empire, after the other three horsemen (Imran, Victor and Al Assad) were killed Makarov took the reins of an enraged Russian ultra nationalist party. Using the rage of a disgruntled Ultra nationalist group he managed to become rich, wage war, kill political opposition and even aid in the 2003 Darfur genocide in Sudan. As we all know he would eventually start world war 3 with the help of General Shepherd (both of which wanted a war for their own reasons) Interesting stuff.
Makarov was kicked from the Ultranationalist party after the Civil War. Hence why he conducts act of terror in Russia (along with the rest of Europe) and is against the new government. The war was triggered in response to a Makarov’s deceitful tactic to scapegoat the US by making the Russians believe the CIA was behind the operation. And ya, he and Shepherd in a way planned it out for personal gains, Shepherd wanting to come out as a hero and Makarov wanting to set the world in flames. He created his own faction after the creation of New Russia which he utilized to conduct terrorism. Also, it’s clear that he’s not with the government since he holds the Russian president and the president’s daughter hostage to continue with the war (prevent the Russian president from getting to the peace conference) and even attempted to get nuclear launch codes to truly destroy the world. Like Shepherd said in the briefing, Makarov doesn’t fight for any government or any ideals.

From Allen and Roach being listed as K.I.A, the conversations during the actual briefings, and so many other things I could go on about. However my favorite one, has to be from On Their Own Accord, mainly because it's not a briefing. "You wanna put out an oil fire, sir? You set off a bigger explosion right next to it. Sucks away the oxygen. Snuffs the flame." Fun fact, this line actually happened in real life. In the 1960's, a major gas leak fire happened in the Uzbekistan SSR, something that the Soviets tried to control for a long time but never were able to. Precious quantities of gas were leaking out. In the end, they decided to drill another hole right next to the leak and put a specially-made atomic bomb there. The plan was sucessful, and despite a minor earthquake, all the nearby towns were safe. As the underground ball of fire was created, the thick metal tubes of the borehole got smashed and welded themselves together, due to the extreme heat. The gas leak quickly subsided and the original borehole was covered with concrete. This proved to be such an efficient way of controlling gas leaks/oil fires, that the Soviets did it 2 more times, with even the U.S. studying into the case later.
I kinda wish this trilogy had some extended lore, since we always see information flashing during some of the loading screens, but we don't actually have time to read them. One thing I love about BO1 is the Intel you collect actually contains information related to the story and you can actually read through it. I wish the Modern Warfare games had something similar, where you can look at different US and enemy intel and see what else is going on, and seeing different perspectives, while also looking at other parts of the lore
I never understood wtf was even supposed to be happening during these cutscenes as a kid, but I still listened to all the dialogue and read all the subtitles because it's all so cool and well written and I was able to understand the story just through that. Lol 😂
Because Shepherd was intending for him to die. Makarov knew about Allen because that part was planned, the two wanted a war started. Shepherd couldn't just send one of his best in, they'd both question it and potentially get killed, and he needed the higher skilled ones to help him clean up the evidence of his deal with Makarov (i.e. in Loose Ends). Plus, a standard grunt would be too excited at the thought of a high-level mission to question how bad it could go. It was a great idea for what he was planning, clearly, since WW3 started.
I can understand, Soap and Price are from Northern U.K so they have heavy accents, where Shepherd talks clearly (although still has an american accent)

I like how it’s just Shepherd’s men but not Shadow Company to be mentioned
God, the soundtracks they've put on these briefings are so epic.
Ramírez carrying the whole army as always 🗿

this is better than live news on tv
Anyone else hate the fact that the music is turned down in this game? Like especially during missions.
same thing with cod4 remastered severely ruins some of the ambience and feels of the missions
I was most disappointed when they turned down the music for the helicopter sequence in “Of Their Own Accord”. That was my favorite mission
Littlebot 03 it is when you have a game with a good soundtrack like Mw2
Yeah
Especially in the only easy day was yesterday
I noticed this on Roach and Ghost death in normal version the music is more louder
Those missions briefings from 2007-2013 CoDs were so much more entertaining than soap drama cutscenes which persisted for last decade
Yesterday's enemy's are today's recruits
I like this one
Sure glad that random, minor stuff lile this in games is being documented by fans. Much love.
This game and the whole og trilogy had some very hard hitting lines or debriefs
I kinda wish this trilogy had some extended lore, since we always see information flashing during some of the loading screens, but we don't actually have time to read them. One thing I love about BO1 is the Intel you collect actually contains information related to the story and you can actually read through it. I wish the Modern Warfare games had something similar, where you can look at different US and enemy intel and see what else is going on, and seeing different perspectives, while also looking at other parts of the lore
"Huh looks like we lost our connection" Fucking Legendary
These briefings manage to give chills every fuckin single time, this game is timeless 🔥

Bye bye
You wanna put out an oil fire, sir, you set off a bigger explosion right next to it
Sucks away the oxygen.
Snuffs the flames.
Price, you been locked away too long. Better get your mind right, son
Shepherd, are you willing to do what is necessary to win?
Always
We got ourselves a pretty big fire. Gonna need a huge bang

Goosebumps everytime...

History is filled with liars.
When I was a child, these loading screens were so cool that I thought I was a real special forces agent, and I was saving the world!
Still one of my favorites!
i Just realized the bank dark briefing at 15:13 is from the aftermath of the EMP/Nuke Price launched at the U.S
Damn tru
I had to turn the brightness all the way to actually see that
History is written by the victor . Gold
Back when games used to touch your soul instead of your wallet

Shepherd may have been the bad guy, but his conviction would make me follow him to the depths of hell
I never understood wtf was even supposed to be happening during these cutscenes as a kid, but I still listened to all the dialogue and read all the subtitles because it's all so cool and well written and I was able to understand the story just through that. Lol 😂
1 dislike came from Shepherd.
Still don’t know why the hell sending a low rank Ranger on a dangerous undercover op was a good idea for Shepherd.
@@CaptainResident not to mention soon as u saw CIA and that affiliation you knew it was sketch as fuck
@@CaptainResident Jesus Christ man, the modern warfare series had such good story telling
It may offend British but I as a Chinese Shepherd’s words are much easier to understand than British team such as Soap and Price.
They've got accents from all over the british isles
I can understand, Soap and Price are from Northern U.K so they have heavy accents, where Shepherd talks clearly (although still has an american accent)
Different slang but the same. Same with spanish but everyone has their own slang
"The accent might be different but the language stay the same"
- Linguistic professor Viktor Reznov
We listened to Americans' accent more than to Scottish
