David S It's for the enthusiasts looking for fast hot hatches. The new Corolla looks great, but there are those who wants a bit more power. If Toyota actually offered it with a turbocharged motor I'd definitely buy one.
I owned a '77 Corolla and I was curious about this new one. Sounds like from your description that Toyota put alot into this new car to make it competitive and it does sound good. It really hasn't competed with the Civic for a long time. Perhaps this is a turning point.
I agree. It does seem they’ve invested a lot of time and resources into this new hatchback model. It’s not just another point A to point B car anymore.
... I'll be nice about it. It's okay that people have different requirements for a car. It's okay that they haven't completed. They both fill the requirement for reliability which is first in this segment.
Rockin' Kid sorry but it ain't got shit for the civic and that's coming from someone that owns a 2018 Camry, maybe if they make it all wheel drive then yea🖒
Honestly I'm not a huge car fan, but I've been looking for videos that really go in depth about this car, and this is by far the best I've seen. Keep up the good work!
OspreyBravo18 The Corolla had never been V6. I would say keep it I4 (2.0 turbo 8AR), and AWD!! Let’s give some competition to the WRX and Focus ST at least.
I currently have the 50th anniversary Corolla, nothing to brag about, except that it's super reliable and gets the basic job of transportation done right, every time. But, I'm waiting for this one to hit my local dealer to buy it, it's simply a much better car than it's predecessor. I've also been wanting a hatchback for a while, so this is perfect for me, at this time. Can't wait to buy it soon.
Right Lane Hog That's a fair question. I was never attracted to it, TBH, design wise. At the time I was not looking to buy a hatchback either, but recently my needs have changed.
There will surely be some very good deals on 2018 iMs before the new Corolla hatch comes to market this summer. Although the 2019 is much quicker, I still feel the iM was a very solid value.
I'm signed up for updates on this car. I am impatiently waiting for it to go on sale so I can get one - I love it! I've been driving the same car for 8 years and this new Corolla convinced me now is the time to get a new car. All that tech - wow! I'm a software engineer and totally geeking out over this car, lol.
I have a 2010 Toyota Corolla LE for 8 years and I have been waiting for a new Toyota Corolla Hatchback and know I can have the it!!! Can wait to have my own!!!
Wow nice finally anti crash i idaptive camera technology in a Corolla! Absolutely the best daily car to use! For fuel, power, size for parking & monuvering in/out of traffic! Great job Toyota!
Would be surprised if this car isn't a winner. Once Toyota stream lines production, it would nice to see a stripped-down version of this car for tuners (e.g Civic DX). It would be a poke at Civic's much lower starting price.
Now they need to beef up the engine a bit 190hp bring back the Celica make it lightweight around 2,400-2,800 lbs tops manual offer that as base model . Then a celica AWD turbo model .
imagine, a sport hachback corolla, Nice turbo, manual transmission, sporty seats and steering wheel and some carbon fiber in the interior.. nice suspension, doing 160mph with hp between 290hp to 340hp.. that would be sickkkkkkkk
I actually kind of like it as much as I hate to say it. It finally has enough power as the golf and mazda 3 hatch but it is no hot hatch that’s for sure. Im sure the 6 speed is amazing as long as there’s a way to turn off auto rev matching 😂
The only thing that sucks about this hatch other than not having a turbo is its small cargo capacity. 18 cubic inch, down from 22 from the Corolla IM. Smallest in the segment I believe. I wish My IM CVT had a launch gear. That's the only thing that sucks with CVT transmission. The sluggish rubberband feeling accelerating from a stop. Awesome that Toyota fixed it.
Yes, the launch gear is a huge improvement over the older CVT system. Maybe even worth getting the newer Hatch even though it has smaller cargo capacity.
It is gorgeous !! No AWD. Boo. Not enough power. Boo. That blue all but makes up for it !! Seen it at NYC Auto Show. Just amazing. Not to bad room wise either. But I will keep my 18' Tiguan.
While waiting for my loaded SE 6spd to being delivered from SATX to HTX. I was provided an XSE CVT for about a wk. Im not a fan of the CVT, its launch gear is NOT seamless and sports mode just turns the gauges from blue to red. Then I found out There's a current recall for the CVT, and a waiting list to get it sorted out. Hands down its s fun car with a great motor and its very nimble. You might want to stick to the 6spd manual gear box... Side Note: Toyota's decision to go with a heavy flywheel in the 6spd causes rpms to hang "rise and fall very very slow"..
Its actually beautiful , i aways wanted a hatch back so far i only drive which is still my 1st car is a 1998 saturn sc2 coupe. Like my car runs good and easy to fix but need some upgrades and better comfort
Its an updated 2010 matrix. I have one. It looks like an updated version of matrix. Just look at rear hatch. I would like to see the diff in the ride of 2019. My 2010 is 2.4 sport awd. Fast and fun to drive. I would like one in manual.
It would be something to consider for sure. I currently drive a 2009 Vibe (Matrix) AWD 2.4 liter and if the new hatch is built as well as mine it would be worth looking at. Looks though like it might be a bit smaller which would not be an asset.. The Vibe is really useful with it's large cargo area (for a small car)
I've got CVT as I had enough experience with manuals of every possible choices, including heavy-duty trucks (13 speed); I would stick to CVT for 'relaxed to saving on gas' mode. This is what I was thinking why don't they adopt simple gear at launch.
Having big wheels with very low profile tires is a real nightmare if you daily drive your car in pothole infested roads. I know that from experience driving a scion with 17" rims and low profile tires.
I drive my two cars in nyc with low pro tires with now issues drive carefully and avoid them if u pay attention to the road u can saves ur wheels and tires
Great overall package. Theyve really improved over the last gen. Those just looked dorky. This has an enthusiast look to it. Literally the only thing I saw that I dont like is the exhaust tips. Theyre tiny little rectangles. Just extend the pipes out the back!
Like it, I have a Nissan with CVT and I really like the gradual acceleration with cvt. Yes it's slows off the mark but picks up fast after, so I lose a second or two, big whooho. I like the idea of a lunch gear though
A welcome change to the corolla wish they would put out a 3rd version for enthusiusts though with a good chunck of the safety features missing bolstered seats and upgraded supension, brakes, and trim i know thats not a typical corolla but it could be
I'm honestly more excited about this new Corolla than the new 'Toyota Supra.'
Haha that’s awesome.
I was looking at some more Supra information and honestly. The car doesn’t do it for me. Do you feel the same?
@@Sidewaysat11 i do, the new supra doesn't look that special compared to others of it's category it's quite disapointing
Yea, I agree. Especially after all this time. Let’s wait to see the final version before we judge though.
So am I tbh
I wish Toyota would put their turbocharged four cylinder from their Lexus cars into the new Corolla to compete against the GTI, Civic Si and Focus ST.
Maybe with time?
Why? It's fine as is.
David S It's for the enthusiasts looking for fast hot hatches. The new Corolla looks great, but there are those who wants a bit more power. If Toyota actually offered it with a turbocharged motor I'd definitely buy one.
Then it would be a 40 grand Corolla :D Toyota will not commit financial suicide
mrjjthor Thor or just put a turbo in it yourself that will be faster than a gt86
The designers did a fine job with this
I owned a '77 Corolla and I was curious about this new one.
Fuck honda and their gay ass civics
U wana trade for 77 fast bacc celica GT?
This is the perfect fit for daily drive
Fact💯
Honestly I'm not a huge car fan, but I've been looking for videos that really go in depth about this car, and this is by far the best I've seen. Keep up the good work!
I appreciate the feedback and the kind words. Thank you 🙏
They need to bring a performance version of it with their 8AR 2.0 turbo engine.
JM Monty I am hoping their Gazoo division opens it up for us in the NA with those
That would be great!
Shit just cram the V6 in there.
The xse camry motor would of been great.
OspreyBravo18
The Corolla had never been V6. I would say keep it I4 (2.0 turbo 8AR), and AWD!! Let’s give some competition to the WRX and Focus ST at least.
Toyota is making their cars look serious. Just like the 2019 Toyota Avalon.
That I definitely agree.
May I ask why you did not buy the iM?
Right Lane Hog That's a fair question. I was never attracted to it, TBH, design wise. At the time I was not looking to buy a hatchback either, but recently my needs have changed.
There will surely be some very good deals on 2018 iMs before the new Corolla hatch comes to market this summer. Although the 2019 is much quicker, I still feel the iM was a very solid value.
Right Lane Hog iM is very slow. I drive a Camry. And I was shocked how slow the iM is.
MAMR, True story, I had a Camry rental recently and I was shocked by how fast it was compared to my Vibe with a 1.8 engine.
The thumbnail with the lowered yellow one is SIXK
Dang Toyota you might as well named it SEX.
King of The Castle the first trim is SE.
Would definitely buy. About time Toyo got serious about hot hatchbacks
So the Focus ST @ 252HP stock would smoke it?
Beautiful Corolla !!! How about the sun roof and a turbocharged/hybrid power train?
Europe has the 1.2 turbo and the hybrid but I am unsure if they offer a sunroof.
Toyota said if there is enough interest, they will develop a sunroof for the next model year
Remove the word hybrid....
I think a turbo would make the overall cost A little too much, as it sits the SE is priced under the civic hatch and comprable in terms of Hp/lb.ft
Toni Sato sunroof with turbodiesel, it wouldn't look good.....just sayin'
i own a 2003 corolla for about 8 years imported form japan the engine is still untouched
Very cool!
Thank you Kanye!
I guess you really need to change the oil, then.
/Sic
shadowless He better have an oil change
2003 Corolla here since 2002. I can say the same lol
I hope Toyota put 250 hp on this hatch and I will buy one right away but I will wait for now..
TboneC5 Channel its 168 hp and 155 Ibs pounds of torque. All motor and no force induction. This thing will do fine.
TboneC5 Channel
Mmmm torque steer...yummy!
I agree with you.
TboneC5 Channel exactly...smh
My 2012 Mazda 3 s has 168hp 167tq and it’s very fun. Very “tourqy” and plenty of passing power. Very fun in the curvy roads.
My goodness. They finally made the Corolla fun!
Great review...
1 of my top 5 hatchbacks...
Looking to get one December 2019...
✌...
Very cool and thanks! Share your experiences when you’re all settled in. 👍🏻
@@Sidewaysat11 you bet... ✌

Finally someone takes a picture of the SE interior (3:51). Thank you!
You are very welcome 😁
Love the car and your enthusiasm explaining it. Liked and subscribed.
Just a little more power and i would have bought it! Please make a trd or upgrade the engine next year for the xse trim
I have a 2010 Toyota Corolla LE for 8 years and I have been waiting for a new Toyota Corolla Hatchback and know I can have the it!!! Can wait to have my own!!!

Agreed.
I have a Corolla SE 2017 but might get this one when it comes out.
Nice! Let us know.
Love it, the new look
My XSE arrives next week! Pretty stoked!!!
Ooh! Let us know how you like it 👍🏻
i really would luv that mrjjthor wake up toyota pls
I own a 2014 Corolla base it's great, but I can't wait to own this hatchback!
Great review, but whats the name of the song playing in the background ?
Would be surprised if this car isn't a winner. Once Toyota stream lines production, it would nice to see a stripped-down version of this car for tuners (e.g Civic DX). It would be a poke at Civic's much lower starting price.
Toyota should bring back Corolla All Trac and make it turbo. That would be awesome!
Now they need to beef up the engine a bit 190hp bring back the Celica make it lightweight around 2,400-2,800 lbs tops manual offer that as base model . Then a celica AWD turbo model .
A more powerful model is rumored but not confirmed.
Scion frs replaced the Celica
With a huge addition of RWD. I’m not sure you would consider that a direct replacement.

If they don’t add force induction at least they should apply old but great engine technology such as vvtl-i
Been a while since a hatchback called my attention.
Happy to hear they’re doing something right that caught your attention.
Did you mean 19,000 for the manual six speed and 24 for the CVT or is it the other way around
Micaiah Flores manual is always cheaper
Thank god they brought it back looks like the Tsport
Hell to the yes I’d cop. Finally a corolla I want to cop as I’m still with a 2003 model. Hoping one day they’ll do a TRD performance model
Are you thinking about buying one?
Yes, will picking up my SE black ext on Monday. Over the moon.
Nice! Congratulations!🎉
it looks really cool, all toyota models should follow this path, even the new supra
I think they’re on target!
Damn that gave me everything i needed to know thanks for the video
You are very welcome!
I'm in LOVE! :)
Happy to hear it! Definitely a good looking car.
With the Cocoa
L O L ! ! !
wow... I want that Mid-night-black 0:55
Toyota is the first to have turbocharge, since 1998. But they only add it their Lexus brands and the new Toyota Supra for now.
Supra is a BMW.
How much square footage is in the hatch?
18 cubic feet
Really nice hatchback..even tho SUV are all the talk in the kitchen. Its nice to see something else for us hothatch buyers
“Mac person strut set up” lmao
Thats kickass, now about the turbo
Got the XSE trim version! Its amazing!
as someone with a car 11th gen corolla S plus, i rlly fucking want this
It look really good.
The only thing that sucks about this hatch other than not having a turbo is its small cargo capacity. 18 cubic inch, down from 22 from the Corolla IM. Smallest in the segment I believe. Awesome content sir! Keep it up! New subscriber here:)
Thanks a lot!
2+ years later, when will the hybrid version be available in North and South America?
Car is so much better in this car than corolla sedan. Better mpg and handling as well. The next corolla sedan is in 2020
Love that yellowish mustard color
It is gorgeous !! No AWD. Boo. Not enough power. Boo. That blue all but makes up for it !! Seen it at NYC Auto Show. Just amazing. Not to bad room wise either.
But I will keep my 18' Tiguan.
Toyota need to offload the Auris in the UK, and bring back the Corolla

I bought one Love it ALOT
I just bought one yesterday. I got the se in the pearl white
Very nice! Congratulations.
Great video!
Thanks David 😀
I wished the XSE trim was slightly warmer than it looks. If they gave it a turbo, it could probably stand toe-to-toe with the Civic Si.
Rumor has it there might be an even sportier version in the works. Well just have to wait and see. I will keep you all updated.

Prodigious 909 buy it from me. I sell Toyota.
Shameless plug lol
Where's the turbo?
Unfortunately no turbo in sight for now.
Sean Malcolm all motor will do fine
It wish Toyota put the V6 in this car from the Camry XSE. Imgine how fast it would be
That would be insane!
Toyota Brony no it won't.
Alright does it come in that yellow like in your thumbnail??? I'm totally sold on that color
Unfortunately it does not! 😢I edited that photo because I thought that color was really nice.
Ireland has these on hybrid. Why we dont have the hybrid version in the US?
I'd love to see a TRD version
Looks Great~ Love the color GALLACTIC AQUA MICA
Certainly does look good!

as someone who's always drove slow cars, this looks like a nice fun little bump up for me (coming from a 128hp scion xd).
Agreed! Big jump in power for you.
Can't wait to buy this
Which color are you going to get?
Will it be for sale in Ireland??
i wish they put a launch gear on the new Camry bc it’s really slow from stop lol
I would definitely buy one of these if it had a turbo in it
Thanks for the picture show with words.
Thanks for the comment. 😉

Just like Toyota. I think that would be a good choice. Maybe Toyota has a patent on that tech?
When are they going to make a car with real tires instead of these rubber coated rims ? Our roads are not as smooth as bowling alleys !
What kind of tire would you prefer?
Sideways at 11 16 inch max!
Having big wheels with very low profile tires is a real nightmare if you daily drive your car in pothole infested roads. I know that from experience driving a scion with 17" rims and low profile tires.
I drive my two cars in nyc with low pro tires with now issues drive carefully and avoid them if u pay attention to the road u can saves ur wheels and tires
auxmike The SE trim comes with 16” wheels. 18” is on XSE.
Offer a extra base version for under 15k
Great overall package. Theyve really improved over the last gen. Those just looked dorky. This has an enthusiast look to it. Literally the only thing I saw that I dont like is the exhaust tips. Theyre tiny little rectangles. Just extend the pipes out the back!
give us a proper balls out supercharged or turbocharged hardcore version please and youll be onto a winner
Needs AWD!! Turbo option would be nice too
Like it, I have a Nissan with CVT and I really like the gradual acceleration with cvt. Yes it's slows off the mark but picks up fast after, so I lose a second or two, big whooho. I like the idea of a lunch gear though
The car is quick and light
A welcome change to the corolla wish they would put out a 3rd version for enthusiusts though with a good chunck of the safety features missing bolstered seats and upgraded supension, brakes, and trim i know thats not a typical corolla but it could be

Good choice!
I didn't notice in the video, is the car an FF or FR?
FF
I still want the new camry se
I own an immaculate '99 4-Runner SR5 w/ 188k miles. Time for a new Toyota, maybe this one or the CH-R.
Might get one
I would definitely consider buying one with a manual transmission
Yup! Manual would be the choice for enthusiasts.
Be cool if they went to the roots of rwd or an all track but hell yeah I'd buy one...reminds me of my Pontiac Vibe
