I had the same on a mates JD6420 We bypassed it and that kept him going at the time but like you I just about had the cab stripped looking for a short.
If that sensor has decided to go short to ground and it's sharing the same circuit, it can blow that fuse. I'd check continuity to ground for each wire with a multimeter. - then check continuity (and resistance) across the two wires. it should read more than a few ohms.
Love it a simple thing to get you going again is sometimes the very fix folk may need so great post that will certainly help others .

That's a bit of a shit, Rob, blowing the fuse 4 times. Electrical problems are the worst.

Technology, ahhhh, great when it's working, not worth crap when it is'nt.
Your lucky you have a E series tractor, the newer 5R series are Computer controlled and can be a pig to work out what's actually wrong
If everything fails goto the manual, I mean the internet manual. Works most time.
