The original is pretty slammin' and you can find it most big and small grocers nowadays. Love seeing the behind the scenes come up to his current success and the fact that the recipe is from his grandmother!
We got a big bottle of this at Costco so that seems a bit odd compared to their story of a struggling small business owner. I added a bunch of it to a meatloaf and it was probably the best meatloaf I've ever made. I would totally vouch for that use of it.
@@jpablo700 I followed Adam Ragusea's video for smoked meatloaf and it came out great. The recipe calls for "a couple glugs" of barbecue sauce. You can always add more when you serve it if needs it. I did cook it in the oven since smoking it sounds like a pain.
I saw it at Costco too. It mostly seems like soy sauce and tomato, with sugar and vinegar, and perhaps alcohol. I'll have to buy it once to try, but usually I can batch a bunch of better tasting sauce for a lot less.
I found it to be too bitter and too sweet. I thought it needed more green onions. I liked it that it does not contain any preservatives, no emulsifiers, no thickeners, no fillers!! It has only sesame oil, not canola or sunflower: it does not taste greasy nor does it feel greasy. Overall if when I want sauce this is the one I'd buy. Bravo, Bachan!
I remember as a young lad overseas, eating at a restaurant where you grilled your own food. One of the sauces that were served tasted just like bachan. I did a little dance after tasting it. Meat needs no seasoning, just dipped in this golden sauce made it perfect. Now I can buy it and cook as an adult 😭🥹
@@ChRisu_Ojisan Interesting. I figured obachan was used where you have a close familiar relationship with your grandma, but obasan was used when you're not that close, with the san used because of honorifics out of respect.
Mothers and grandmother's have some of the hardest cooking jobs on the planet. Making food children will eat. All the best foods come from mothers and grandmother's recipes.
I have a bottle in my fridge from Costco If anyone is wondering what it tastes like, just go get a black bean sauce from the grocery but far weaker with a tiny bit of hoisin sauce that’s less sugary
Used it on ribs last night. It was a little wet compared to an American sauce but they came out super crispy and umami-flavored. Can't wait to use it on other things.
It’s what makes it so versatile, it’s meant for cooking. Marinade, stir fry, grilling, sauces, etc. If you want a traditional thick teriyaki style sauce, you just heat this up and whisk in a corn starch slurry. It’ll be thick and less salty, and better than any store bought teriyaki sauce. It wouldn’t have been as versatile if they sold it with emulsifiers/thickening agents.
For me it needs to be cooked with the food. I can't add it straight onto anything like other bbq sauces. When it's cooked with whatever meat you put it on it's great.
As a chef of 27 years in restaurant experience and I’m 49 years old. They make great sauces, their prices are ridiculous, they’re good they are immaculate. They’re exquisite their “imprevio’sos” where I live I don’t wanna pay eight dollars for a bottle of sauce and that’s it like the Safeway. It’s like seven or eight dollars per how many ounces? It’s good don’t get me wrong folks, it’s not the main course lol it’s something you’re gonna add to blah blah blah.
I really hope he doesn't sell out his company -- so many family owned recipes and businesses sold out to the mega corporations, we need more independent brands!
After its success I notice Kinder’s is now selling a” Japanese BBQ Sauce “. I was buying the big bottles at Costco when my wife had to start eating Gluten Free for medical reasons luckily they started making a gluten free version, unfortunately all the other versions are not 😢
I tried out the Kinders Japanese BBQ and it's definitely a lot different than the Bachans in both consistency and flavor. More of a soy umami base than any of their flavors and is more suited to veggies. Akin to a deeper bodied hoisin sauce or stir fry sauce. Some people call the Bachans bitter, then the Kinders J-BBQ is definitely more so. Though I still don't feel that's the best term to describe it. Just very deep savoury flavours.
it doesn't just take like teriyaki sauce does it? i bought a japanese bbq sauce from another brand and it was straight up teriyaki sauce. Halm's bbq sauce is top tier and i highly recommend it to whoever can get it. its a hawwian bbq sauce rather than japanese.
It's just another teriyaki sauce, with fancier packaging and marketing. Sriracha on the other hand, single-handedly created the sriracha hot sauce category we see today, no comparison really
Why even compare the two? Two completely different flavors from two completely different areas of the world. Now if people say this is the new KC masterpiece, I might agree.
Read the ingredient list for this product. Healthy and clean. that costs more, plain and simple. If people pay for it, where's the harm? And it sounds like people are doing just that. Vote with your wallet. Or buy it on sale. Or don't buy it at all. That's the beauty of a capitalist, free-market economy. You can always buy Baby Ray's or a store brand, but read the ingredient label first and ask yourself if you want to put that in your body. Even better? Make your own.
Do you understand how cost works? Lol pricing doesn't changed based on how well the economy is. It changes based on cost of goods and the cost to run a business.

At first, it was hard to find but it’s grown like crazy.
I have to try this pro tip. How much did you put into your meatloaf?

It was more of a success story. They started off struggling but are doing great now. At least in my area it's only been sold in Costco more recently.

Its actually not good at all... i tried 3 flavors, all were a miss IMO. I'll stick w/ more natural ones
@@turbokid99 I'm always looking for better natural sauces. Would you mind sharing with me which natural ones you like? Thank you.
I also bought it due to the lack of preservatives, canola oil and other sketchy chemical ingredients. Haven’t tried it yet though.

The original is amazing
bachan is not a japanese american term lol .. obachan is the word for grandma, bachan is just shortening the word.
To add this, the word for grandma should pronounce with elongated a like oba'a-chan.
With shorter a, "oba-chan" means auntie.
@MistSoalar yes you are right but for some of us nikkeijin we were brought up with obachan for grandma and obasan for auntie.
@@ChRisu_Ojisan it's interesting to know it as a Japanese from Japan 👍

Holy Cow I just bought this, and it showed up as a recommendation. It's so good.
SAME LOL
MOOO!
These are AWESOME! Quality ingredients. Marinated pork cutlets, grilled them and put on some ramen.
Everyone is talking about sriracha or bachan but the king of asian sauce for me is always hoisin sauce
Only the real ones know
Agree. This sauce is ok, not great. I would pick soy sauce (not Lee Kum Kee; too salty) or Hoison if there is choice over this
Oyster sauce the true asian sauce.
Too bad most hoisin is made in China. Can't trust it
No! Fish sauce is the ultimate real asian sauce
I tried the yuzu one , on a whim, it now stable in my fridge
It’s a staple*, stable just means it’s non-reactive
We love this stuff !!! It’s a staple . Soooo goood ❤.😊
Grandma 👵 😘 😍
Growing up overseas, i gotta say this sauce is nostalgic. I thought id never find the sauce i had over there stateside

I bought this a few months ago and have been obsessed. So damn good!!
Fantastic stuff. Can't get enough.
One of my faves!
The only method I know of that allows cold fill without using any preservatives is HPP. I wonder how they're doing it?
Anyone else use it for stir fry ? It’s so good
Omg so delicious , i love this stuff ❤❤❤
Huh. Will keep an eye out for this in the UK

It’s good. Just need to lessen the salt a bit imho
tried all of them.... for me it was tooo sweet...
I'm a fan of the original. It's extremely versatile.
I need to try it.
It’s aight. Watery and salty

I have been buying it since it first came out - They improve the cap so its easier to use
I have 3 bottles in my fridge…original and Yuzo are my top 5 sauces in my rotation.
For me it needs to be cooked with the food. I can't add it straight onto anything like other bbq sauces. When it's cooked with whatever meat you put it on it's great.
Very good sauce.
Excellent sauce, we love it
I have two bottles in my fridge right now, this sauce is S tier
Was sold briefly out of my local Costco after another major brand made out of NorCal, stopped production. Not sure what the choice is today.
WHEN YOUR INGREDIENTS ARE TRUE AND TOP GRADE FOR A AFFORABLE PRICE WE THE PEOPLE WILL NEVER LET THE BRAND FALL THAT SUCE IS FIRE
For real. Got a small bottle for literally a dollar. Made the best chicken of my life with it. Best dollar I've spent.
I actually mix both sriracha and bachan bbq sauce
A real “skin to the game” story. 1 out of a million…
I will have to try it.
Could be! Stuffs awesome!
Yuzu por vida
I put the Hot and spicy and the original on everything. I keep the gluten free one on hand for my mom. I need to try the others. Love the stuff.
trust me……it wont …….its too sweet.
To me, it tastes like a MUCH better version of teriyaki sauce. I don’t know about it being “the next Siracha” ..🤔😏😏. That’s pretty optimistic 🙃🙃🙃
Shits too expensive to be the next sriracha

As much as I'd love to buy stock in this. I'm happy to see its private and not open to the public.
hi yes id like to try the sweet and spicey now
Yaaas
I need this sauce on everything
sauce 😐
sauce, japan 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯😳😳😲😲😲😲
Great sauce, but not very versatile.
It tastes great if you use it in or on the correct food dishes, but in my opinion, there aren't many.
Never buying sriracha sauce ever again ever since they tried to screw over their supplier
Way too expensive to be more widely used. Way too expensive.
Too sweet and too watery. Light in flavor.
No, it’s far too sweet and has too much ginger. It does make a really great base for a Chinese brown sauce, though.
Amazing story, too bad you couldn't get an interview with the founder, that would've made the story more personal
I love this BBQ sauce.
I really hope he doesn't sell out his company -- so many family owned recipes and businesses sold out to the mega corporations, we need more independent brands!
I use garlic powder, cayenne powder and the original sauce to marinate chicken thighs. Easy money
i DO like that brand of sauce!
Tasty

I stumbled on this brand at my local specialist grocery store. Wanna get it (but i have others beforehand).
never seen it before
Wow
Delicious product. I haven't tried the Sweet Honey and Hella Hot, so I'll be on lookout for those.
I love it! Sodium in it is gonna kill me bur we're not talking about how healthy it is right now 🤫
The Spicy one is the best
Why even compare the two? Two completely different flavors from two completely different areas of the world. Now if people say this is the new KC masterpiece, I might agree.
The yuzu one is peak
I’ve never even heard of or seen before… $12 a bottle?!
Depends on the place, I brought mine for 8 .99
Yeah I see now on Amazon a single bottle $8. Is it really so amazing? Cool story
GOT MINE AT BJ'S FOR $8. PLUS A LARGER BOTTLE. LOOK AROUND.
Japanese BBQ sauce is infinitely better than the American counterpart
Expensive, runny and goes quick in the small bottle. It taste good but even when I got a discount on it I pass on it.
This is the most addicting BBQ sauce on the market
This is very good, but the bottle sucks, it leaks all over my fridge. The bottle is covered is stickiness. Fix your bottle!
Isn't this combo basically a variation of unagi (eel) sauce? Which I love BTW
I've seen it, now I wanna try it! You guys are going on about the the yuzu one.
costco sells it that's why
I ferment hot sauce for 1 year in wooden French barrels. Reply to this message
Not in stores in Canada....$$$ 26.00 On amazon canada 😮 😮😮 or else 18.00 and 78.00 to ship from one online store.
I saw it in Costco
Costco has it. We buy it regularly.
Bring a full bottle to the Sumo table. #Buffet
This is a paid ad, no one is buying this at my local Sam’s club. Bring back Sonny’s BBQ!
Its good sauce to be fair.
Not a replacement for sriracha at all. Its nice for asian themed meat dishes and some meats in general, but is not replacing anything for me.
Ok, how do we buy the stock though? Need to get in early
Been using this sauce...it doesn't taste "that" good
I found it not that good . But the ingredients are on the healthy side. I dont like sweet bbg sauces . Still it has its charm flavor
$12 in this economy???

You don't drink the stuff. You use it to enhance the flavor. A little bit goes a long way. I've ordered coffee at Starbucks that's more expensive.

Ehhh it’s a lil too salty for my taste
Cant say im a fan, just doesnt mix well with too many things
It’s amazing it’s not worth nine dollars a bottle
I get it because I can't get good hoisin sauce.
Thats not Sebastapol...its Bodega...
