As a white boy I never thought Apu was a character to be laughed at. He’s a friend of the Simpsons that just happened to be Indian. He’s an Indian stereotype but isn’t every single person on that show a stereotype of something
@Robert Slack no he’s not 🤣 I’ll put my entire life savings and everything I have in investments down on a bet that he isn’t going to be touched. The man is untouchable.
@Robert Slack he said everything, stupid stuff and sometimes warranted stuff. Point is that people voted for him in relief of being gagged. My dad has to give speeches to his department about trans identity despite it not going with his religious beliefs at all. He can work with people and be cordial but he has to swallow his faith for the firm. The company he works for is historically not supposed to be political at all, but corporate culture is starting to obligate it. It’s stuff like this that frustrate people enough to vote for a guy like Trump.
This was the best comedy special I’ve seen in a long time. And I totally agree with your take on Apu, as another Indian who grew up in the US in the 90s.
Yep, and they even consulted the Red Cloud Indian club to help design the logo. But they don't want to look into anything. They just want to be offended by everything.
I’m liberal and tried to explain this to my liberal friends how their pc culture was pushing people into supporting him out of spite. Of course nobody would listen to me
20 minute set that was better than most hour specials. Laughed the entire time and respect for the Apu jokes and for saying white folks can laugh too. Him and Schulz are way too underrated. Love to see Akaash live if he makes it out to CO.
Here’s another one: Apu was a consistent voice of reason. He wasn’t a simpleton in a minstrel show, he was somebody whom many characters turned to for advice because he was knowledgable on a number of topics and one of the few stable adults around. That’s why I knew most of the people complaining about him probably hadn’t actually seen much of him in action. He owns a convenience store? That’s a harmful stereotype? I’m busting my ass working minimum wage (or less) at one of the few jobs in this shitty border town I’m qualified to do (options are severely limited when you don’t know Spanish), owning a convenience store sounds like a DREAM!
@@TheRandompaint He certainly did, but that is the most obvious thing about him if you ask me. Akaash mentions it, and other commenters have. Hell, they actually made a point of highlighting it in ON THE SHOW, in the episode where he gets married. All of the single guys at a bachelor auction were losers whom none of the women wanted to bid on, and somebody pointed out that Apu had a lot going for him (including the business). He’s more than his business, though, which is my point. He has a Ph.D in computer science, which is how he ended up in America in the first place, to pursue a doctorate (which he also earned).

Exactly. I was born in the early 90s and I grew up on these guys. Willie taught kids to be proud of their heritage, to stand tall, proud and strong. And Apu taught kids the value of hardwork. Sure he made mistakes but he owned up to it instead of ignoring them.
I'm a white guy and I grew up in a small white town, we had one Indian guy in town who ran the local liquor store. He was just as part of the community as any of us. As teenagers we'd all hang around his store and chop it up with him. We'd tell racist jokes to each other just like this, it was just normal and not offensive back then. He'd tell us about his life in India, his dreams of becoming a pilot, etc. What I'm saying is that the Apu character isn't racist at all, it's an accurate depiction of how Indians integrated into small American communities back in the day.
@H J yeah and people think we're all secretly racist in private, it's not true. I've legit only known 2 guys in my entire life who were like that, and even then, all they were doing was cracking jokes, they never hurt anyone
They still do in Canada. You can go to some small town in Canada where everyone is white. Some Indian dude owns a gas station or a convenience store. I’m pretty sure the kids who go in to buy candy don’t care if he’s green or orange. and the adults who get gas and cigarettes get used to the guy after a couple of months.

@@MeestahJones I can't tell if you're joking, but if you aren't what you said is fucked up.
@@MeestahJones Not exactly certain what passive agressive political point you were trying to make. But it seems to me that you were trying to label Jacob as some sort of racist by saying people like you.... which is what race baiters always do... rather than, I don't know, give somebody the benefit of the doubt and maybe just think Jacob meant "people who say uncomfortable truths/things others don't like hearing" rather than pulling the psuedo race card. But you go ahead and do you race baiter.
Great comedy, and a great message. Everybody should aspire to that kind of ideal, immigrant or not. Be the kid everyone wants to copy off of, not the one doing the copying.
Aged excellently!!!
Special was hilarious. Makes me so happy to see Akaash on the rise!
I haven't laughed this hard at a comedy special in a very long time. The only issue I had with it is that it wasn't longer. Fuckin' stellar Akaash you brilliant bastard. Thank you, please post again!
Honestly since Shane Gillis. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard his stand up. This is my new repeat
@yitzhak shekkelsteingoldmanberg Bot account spotted.
@yitzhak shekkelsteingoldmanberg Bruh
I whole heartedly agree and second this
It's because, the woke left influenced every corner of the media. And now things are changing back to normal, but would take some time.
The woke leftist feminism comedians were given specials in almost all the platforms. Jokes were of related to pay gap, feminism, toxic masculinity and stuff like that.
We should support people like Dave Chapelle, bill burr, etc.
I get this Bill burr vibe here, courageous enough to point out the funny stuff even about the touchiest of subjects. Great Stuff ! I hope you get that sitcom, well, without having to ...
I bet Akaash wouldn't mind being compared with Bill Burr, brutal and honest comedy is what made comedy great in the first place
You mean the guy that came out and said he'll do whatever the government tells him to😂
If Bill Burr and Chris Tucker had a baby.
Bill Burr actually recognizes white privilege tho. This is some darkwhite type comedy.
@@urbnctrl Well, that is one way to admit you haven't watched it or did not understand it.
LOVE what you said at the end! Fuckin' A! Nobody owes anybody shit unless they work for and EARN what they are then owed.
Bro, the special was fire, the line about “I kind of sound like Steve Buscemi “snuck in completely wrecked me
Completely blindsided me.
i didn't even know he sounded like Steve Buscemi until he told me, then I immediately heard it
Na he sounds like logic mixed with Aziz IMO
Lmao yes he does. Can’t fucking get it out of my head
I'll accept that you released this late based solely on the fact that is was SO FUCKIN FUNNY. Thanks Akaash. You kill't it
Flagrant 2 got me through the pandemic. I was so motivated by the whole crew I started my own UA-cam Channel and it's changed my life. Akassh, Andrew, Mark & Alexx... Thank you for everything you do on the daily! Marantz Rantz
That ending is powerful beyond measure. Wow. I came for the laughs but was absolutely blown away by that. G’s up, my guy.
Killed it. Been watching flagrant for a while but it was dope to see you perform outside of that dynamic. Looking forward to seeing more!
