Maria and Rossini, a match made in heaven! Her fraseggio is astonishing, her coloratura not just frivolous embellishment but a brilliant way to express the character's emotion,always so tasteful, never a show off ! She's a genius of opera!
…La Divina was originally a Coloratura Alto. Whatever turned out in her career she developed it to perfection for all ages to come. Even at less perfect sound quality I am enjoying every tune. Mi piace moltissimo

She is really genial - I use the present tense because a Romanian poet said about genius "we do not have time or place and we don't experience death". Tito Gobbi was so prophetical when he said to her "Maria your voice will be listening to even after 100 years" but Maria herself was prophetical also when after 1957 Anna Bolena said to Giulietta Simionato "Giulia duopo di me nessuno" means "after ME nobody". Her Bolena is a pick - I can not hear another Bolena, Imogene, Amina. I will not be like Rudolf Bing to say "Maria took my pleasure to see another Tosca because SHE was Tosca" I say thank you my God because you give me the capacity to enjoy the opera and ballet music and because of this I am able again and again to listen to Maria and to observe every time a little accent, a little nuance that only she put in those masterpieces. She does the real service to the composers - BUT also because she worked with conductors Serafin and Gavazzeni on the top, very good Votto, Sanzonno and Rescignio - Pretre just a friend that offered her the opportunity for the best Carmen ever on record - and also the regret of missing complete Dalila with Vickers and Werter with Di Stefano In this selection the aria form Barbiere is a masterpiece - I do not like Giulini - her best La Traviata is in London with Rescigno in my opinion - BUT their Barbiere is a marvel - listen also to the duet with Figaro "Dunque son..." after them NOBODY. thank you again - even I have all recordings of her many on different labels to compare the sound - I am very glad when I discover something new on youtube.
The coloratura technique is so startling that it almost sounds inhuman as if her voice is a machine, but it comes so naturally to her. You can hear that she is enjoying every note she is singing.
Such brilliant singing! Rossini was so right for her voice,, his music kept her voice healthy and focused. Pity you didn't include her Semiramide from 1956.

Rossini is the only composer who made her sound cheerful and happy.
