I'm also a former Republican, also from New Jersey, and Tara is right about the Jersey DNA. As long as I can remember, I've hated bullies and I've had a keen bullshit detector and have no tolerance for bullshitters. My Dad was the same way. Im also from Atlantic City and saw Trump literally rob and ruin small businesses by refusing to pay them for materials and services and just daring them to try to out-lawyer him in court. Siphoned all the value out of his properties here, then claimed bankruptcy, left all the little guys holding the bag. Anyway, Tara, we are birds of a feather...keep bringing it, you are making a huge difference!

I was a NJ registered then too who helped to fundraise for Bush and company , then Bush Jr. went into Iraq. That was it for me. The only republican I would ever vote for is Bret Schundler and I believe after Christy Administration, he got out of politics.

Denver defeated my candidate, Leslie Cockburn, in the 5th district election in Va. Looking back, he is a great guy and I would vote for him in a heartbeat if he ran for office again. He is a stand up guy!

I'm a Democrat who voted Republican up until Obama & McCain. When McCain picked Palin as his running mate, that was the start of the end.
The two major factors that had me spitting nails at the GOP were these:
1) Mitch McConnell wouldn't let Merrick Garland go through the full nomination & appointment process by the Senate for a SCOTUS position, &
2) When Kevin McCarthy told Paul Ryan that he was pretty sure that Rep. Dana Rohrabacher & DJT were taking Russian money, & Ryan told him that McConnell said, "No matter what, the GOP has to stay together". (There is an audio tape of this conversation on UA-cam.)
I knew this was the demise of the Republican party.
