Here's a plan. Limit gerrymandering to contiguous neighborhoods so political districts represent actual communities instead of making people drive 5 hours outside their community to talk to their representatives.
In the UK each Constituency only has between 60 to 80k of voters. Each one is broken down into Wards and no voters is more than a mile or so from a voting station. We have just had a change in our Polling Station from our Friends House - the Old Post Office to the Village hall in the next village. Voter Suppression was dealt with a long time ago, as was what we called Rotten Boroughs - places where elections were purchased by the rich. Our Head of State does not have the power to make executive orders or even bring in unqualified people to run the show. Our Civil Service, our Separation of Church and State is much stronger. Also we have no idea what party a Judge belongs to - if they were political they be sacked. Our Top Judges don't get a job for life. The USA doesn't seem to have moved on from anti Monarchy and keeps it's constitution like a Religious Text. Magna Carta has been worked on and added to, and will continue to be added to.

I have a brother who was in Scientology, escaped, but maintained the mentality you referenced. Now he is a trumper and he himself, is a narcissist. Hard to have any minimal conversation with him. I care deeply about him, but he is not reachable, so willingly brainwashed and most definitely, see’s himself as superior to everyone. Sad and awful. What a great show, I was in the Jehovah's Witness cult for many years, I have been out since 1997. I often find myself thinking about how it still affects my life, but now I live my life by the Golden Rule...Treat others the way you want to be treated. To me that's doing everything in love.

The Moonies that I saw in San Francisco back in the 70's always had a glassy-eyed stare and goofy sense of happiness. As a 'spiritual seeker' I definitely stayed far away. We also had the Children of God who frequently appeared on campuses dressed in sackcloth and ashes. Their silent protests weren't as bad as Moonies. We also had the Patty Hearst kidnapping and Charles Manson. Hare Krishnas. Cults were everywhere .Strange time. My poor parents were terrified.

Oh God she did lifespring. That figures. I was forced to go through that in a teen tr@ff!cking ring/" program", and the version we went through... hair raising. Gaslighting. Brutal. Love this episode a lot! I was a Mormon once too and you just don't realize how cult-like it is until you both leave, and adopt a new system from which to get different thinking skills. I know people to this day that struggle because they left, but can't shake off their cult kind of thinking. I'll look into those models for de-programming as they might be a tremendous help!

The fact that there are major media outlets who only deal in lies and propaganda, makes it very hard to convince people they are living in Trump's delusion, which is only to benefit Trump and the corporations that are more and more in control of people's lives. We used to have differences of opinion decades ago, but at least we were all working in a shared reality. What we have allowed Murdoch (and many others in his orbit) to do to this country is a disaster.
I think Dr Hassan should put together a deprogramming program that those in jail for Jan 6, and Trump related crimes, must complete before being released.

This is a brilliant presentation. I had simply written off the awful people in politics, corruption and criminality as being greedy or mentally deranged. It’s enlightening to go into this in depth and see how ordinary people can be drawn in by these cult leaders. The fact that there’s a tried and tested method to it all is really worrying for our future.

One thing I have seen in some of those that get away from cults, is that they continue to carry on with the vanity enhancement they learned while in the cult.
I see that kind of vanity in religious people all the time. They feel that knowing their "truth" puts them on a higher level than the rest of us.

Thank you for bringing the #COTS to MeidasTouch Mr. Riggleman! I just finished The Breach and your chapter on Virginia Ginnie Thomas was fascinating, this is a bit of a supplemental chapter for me since I just finished your book, so I'm extremely excited for this episode!
Many in my family, friends and I did EST back in the 70’s. I learned a lot in EST. Actually my first weekend in the training was right when Jonestown happened in November ‘78, which we discussed at our 2nd weekend. Some of my friends did both EST and Life Spring. None of us ended up being weird or moved on to other cults.
I was 28 when I did EST and a middle school teacher at the time. Even took a few seminars after. Having been raised in a strict Greek home that made me feel “less than” than men, afraid of authority and was expected to always obey our elders no matter what, EST helped me with that. When those feelings happen to come up, EST taught me to recognize it’s just a feeling, not necessarily what is, and then am able to let it go. It also stopped my head from running all the time and am able to sleep better because of it. I remember going back to school/work and seeing my principal in a totally different light. I saw him more as my equal as a human being AND as my boss. I started being able to see through people’s facades and that they are just as human as me when it came to feelings and insecurities. That some people just have a better act. I also started seeing through the facades of phonies like Trump. I knew exactly what he was just by watching him on his Apprentice commercials, which is why I refused to watch his show.
Another thing I learned in EST is a definition of love that I still quote today- Love is accepting a person for the way they are and the way they are not. What’s wrong with that? There is also a wise story about a mouse and cheese that benefitted me and even told my children when it benefitted them.
I’m 71 now. Having done EST, it sure didn’t lead me to becoming part of Trump’s cult.
Something major had to be missing in Ginni before she ever did Life Spring that she continues to indulge in cultish behaviors at her age. I think it depends on the individual and people like Ginni need help.
I would do EST again if I had to do my life over, it helped me that much. It obviously made people like Ginni worse.
BTW, Ginni should be indicted for her part in trying to overturn the election. Then maybe if she is indicted, her “best friend” will have to recuse himself when it necessitates.

As an ex-Mormon, I relate. This discussion about “even if you leave, doesn’t mean you’re whole,” resonated. I need to do some more reading and take back control over my own mind.

When Dr. Hassan mentioned the Moon speech he had read where Moon was sucking up to the Congress members "how could anyone believe a Korean could brainwash an American", I had flash backs to the South Park Episode "Chinpokomon"!🤪
Easy to say to try to speak with the cult member and listen and reason to/with them and discuss the issues. Many of them are as abusive, volatile, unreasonable and erratic as Trump and other MAGA diehards seen in news reports. Some MAGA YT comments are indicative of these behaviors.
I almost got recruited into the Moonies when I was in a difficult spot in my life. It turns out I was so depressed and withdrawn that I completely forgot about the recruitment meeting.
Also, the Moonies abused the mother of a former JSDF service member, to the point where he chose extreme violence. And while Shinzo Abe might not have been personally responsible for the cult's brazen operations in Japan, his family was very tight with the Moonies because of his grandfather, Nobusuke Kishi.

Thank you, Denver, for this and what you are doing. As someone who lives in your congressional district, but who tends to identify as ‘blue,’ I was horrified to watch what you went through. I don’t agree with a fair amount of what true (non MAGA) Republicans stand for, but I very much believe that we are better as a country when both sides discuss our differences with respect. And then, work together to reach consensus through compromise. President Reagan and Tip O’Neil didn’t agree on much politically, but were said to be true friends.
Thank you both so much! Listening to your talk gives me hope for our future. It saddens me to see the lost souls cling to the maga trump cult. Some are members of my family.

I wondered whether or not Ginny's previous cult experience and lack of significant after care rendered her more susceptible. I believe I can scratch that off of my list of things I abhor about her and her husband.
