  • In this video tutorial, I give you 10 useful tips for working in Cubase. Most of these tips and tricks are about project navigation, not mixing and mastering. Nevertheless, once you master moving around your project, you will be able to more readily focus on the task at hand, which is of course recording and mixing professional music. Thanks for watching and check out the links below. Peace!

    Well done. Thank you for a very helpful, clearly explained video re. Cubase shortcuts! Just what I needed to know.
    Two other handy shortcuts:
    -Pressing "0" on Num Pad stops recording.
    -To change the height of all tracks at the same time, hold down Ctrl (Cmd in Mac), while hovering over the border of any track until you get the small double bar icon for "up/down" , then drag up or down.

    So cool! Very useful! The one I use a lot is Alt+P when I have an event selected. It will automatical set the locators, turn loop on and will start playing!

    DUUUUUUUDE!!!! THESE ARE AWESOME!!!! I'm new to Cubase - switching over after being a Cakewalk/Sonar user for 20 years. I know how to do ALL of this stuff in Cakewalk - it's like second nature. I have the Cubase manual and a couple of books, but even with that it's been somewhat slow trying to find a lot of these daily regular things. Thank you so much for making this video! - Andrew Colyer, New York

    another useful thing i found out today: ctrl+f => a small window with ALL your tracks appears and you can jump right to the one you want to edit. very helpful within big projects imo.
    and thx dude in general. cubase is my main daw and i have learned some useful things from your videos. keep it up!

    Another good one I use all the time (which I'm pretty sure were the default key binds) CTRL + 1, 2, 3, etc. to set marker and then Shift + 1, 2, 3, etc. to jump to those markers. Really good for navigating to verse 1, verse 2, hook/drop, bridge, etc. without even having to look.

    I just love all the shortcuts on the Numpad. Everytime I have a guitar or bass on my lab I just navigate and control the basic functions like record there. Such a timesaver.

    The best key control in Cubase is sample replace. Drag a sample from the Pool/Bay, hold shift before releasing over another sample, now we get a choice to replace just that 1 or all in project. Amazing for changing a clap, kick etc.

      I've never done that one, but it sounds cool. I sequence most of my drums in MIDI, not audio. But I'll have to keep that one in mind for the future. Thanks!

    • @mitchiemasha
      @mitchiemasha 6 років тому +1

      Yeah, not been able to do this is what forced me over to using MIDI for drums a few times. I always reverted back to the samples on audio track. Learning sample replace is a life saver for those who work this way. I can't believe how hidden it is. In the past i'd searched for hours for a quick way to replace all the versions of sample.
      I've just stumbled on Click holding the 'E' opens up the VST editor instead of the channel setting editor. Another neat feature.

    You are a good instructor. You talk to us, not at us. How can I bend a Bass note in the instrument or MIDI editor?

    • @TalkingLeafMedia
      @TalkingLeafMedia  3 роки тому

      In the control lane of the MIDI editor, where it says "velocity", click the carrot and there will be an option for "pitch bend" in the dropdown menu. Select that and draw in your bend with the pencil tool. You may need to take off snap to get the desired result.

      I remapped [{}]
      [Place left locator . Place right Locator]
      {go to left locator . Go to right Locator}
      Ctrl [] lets you enter a specific value
      Alt Gr [Left Zone . Right Zone]
      Alt Gr Space Bar Lower Zone. Alt Gr does all the other Info, status lines, Zones etc. L Status line, I info line, O Overview, T Transport, M Meter, U Upper. Made sense to me to keep it logical and linked. [{}] is easy reach. Now if one forgets it requires little thought to be remembered.
      I used to use the Alt Click as it's standard but i could never understand why the Alt and Alt Gr are the opposite way round on the keyboard to the locator on the screen.
      Check out my list. drive.google.com/file/d/0BzUqoUE_JiOucVN2QXlTYlIyb1E/view?usp=sharing

    Also if you just hit key number 1 it will bring your cursor to the beginning of the selected range. Hit C for metronome, as long as it's set up in your studio. You can create your own key shortcuts too, i use that to create a new track, MIDI, audio, and instrument ...

    Sooo excellent! Thx for the tips... Noticed hitting z will zoom both selected as in the video, but when one track is a different size than the 2nd track they toggle zoom - which is actually cool too.

    About the horizontal scroll - if someone's seeing this - it should be possible to change direction the preferences! I know you can inverse the mouse wheel in the OS preferences but this is actually reverse vertical scroll too which is a pain.
    I think the direction of scroll up (i.e. to the beginning of the document) should be the same direction of scroll left (i.e. to the beginning of the project). But someone cubase thought differently.

    Really good video with the shortcuts that have been faded in so often - great for keeping them in your mind instantly !!!
    With Zooming I do it nearly the same way with the mouse wheel - BUT I change the "G" and the "H"-keys to zoom vertically.
    The trick with the Z to enlarge selected tracks is not bad but I use another key to do so. But I change the undo-function from Crtl-Z to "Z" - this is much quicker. I don't know how often you use the undo-function - but in my case it is very often.

    10 great tips . my problem is remembering them ! , ha ha TU^ 22 Oh , just upgraded to 9.5 and took advantage of Strindberg black Friday deal and bought the absolute bundle , which included Halion 6 , so keep posting hints and tips and I will be watching

    • @TalkingLeafMedia
      @TalkingLeafMedia  6 років тому +1

      I always wanted Absolute, but I'm still working my way through everything in Komplete 11 Ultimate. I think I'll have some Groove Agent and Halion Sonic SE stuff in the weeks and months to come. Thank you for watching!

    • @TrevorRoper.
      @TrevorRoper. 6 років тому

      I may have mentioned that I was about to purchase Halion 6 a week or two back , the price was then £285 , the week before black Friday Strinberg put the price up to £300 , me and my son were hoping that Halion 6 was going to be the black Friday deal , but we decided we would purchase even if it wasn't, when BF finally arrived it was Absolute that was the deal at £252 so we were able to purchase Absolute and upgrade to 9.5 for £ 304 , we were both very chuffed , as overall we saved £50 each and had all the instruments in the Strindberg range that we could want and more besides ,
      Komplete11 ultimate is way out of our price range , and think what we have is more than enough for our needs , your video's have and will be very helpful in my learning curb all though I have had Cubase for many years there is always so much to learn and different ways of going about recording and mixing , keep the great work up ;-) Trevor

    I just recently started working on editing audio within Cubase (specifically tracks for my daughter's dance studio). By chance are you able to point me toward a great tutorial regarding cross fading between tracks, or cross fading in Cubase in general? Again, fantastic tips tutorial. If you make a marker track, and in it make loop markers. (it’s convenient to mark parts of the composition). They will also have numbers: 1; 2; 3; etc. Transition on them Shift + 1; 2; 3;... (digit) (on num lk section). Thank you for the video! Very helpful!

    p.s. what program did you capture the screen? Very convenient zone approaches!
