The whole 4 yami thing not being able to meet each other and teleporting when they get too close and this yuzu chick always trying to bring them together but failing sounds like every time that Candace tries to show her mother what Phineas and Ferb have built in the backyard.
Once, the 4 dimensions of dueling were in harmony. But everything changed when the Fusion Dimension attacked The plot of Arc-V is so much like Avatar lol
Or you can love it while hating the ending, just like how you can admit the flaws of things that you like no matter how much you like it. In other words, No, that's not really saying anything.
I was gonna make a joke comment that was exactly 1472 words long, but you don't realize just how many words that is until you try and type that many for a joke.
DemiMax when I heard 1472 words I had flashbacks to the excruciating 2000 word essays I had to write last year. It put really put that number into perspective.
My group of friends followed Arc-V religiously during its airing up until a couple weeks after the synchro arc. Whenever the topic of Arc-V comes up it's always a 2 hour long conversation of how much wasted potential there was.
The sad part is that Arc-V had some mad fucking potential. For the first time in a series all previous summoning mechanics were actually used extensively, and most characters actually ran a consistent deck that won't brick every five seconds irl. The plot wasn't afraid to go as dark as it needed to to get the story across and man did the plot have an ambitious setting. It was basically a wet dream for both casual fans and competitive players. And then shit went down and we got an ending making us want to stab the writers with a rusty spoon.
@@bonkwave1604 DW, you only missed Edo, Kaito and the sisters. And even if most of the duels involve one or multiple of them, the XYZ arc as a whole sucked horribly. And it only kept going downhill from there... (with occasional worthwhile parts. as in 1 every 10 episodes, if you're lucky)
At the time original flavor Duel Monsters came out, OCG hadn't even been released, so they were truly making shit up as they went along. Also, even though Duel Monsters cut back on the overt cruelty and Saw-like penchant for turture of manga-version Atem, he still killed at least two dudes in the anime.
To me this was the most ambitious project they had but they messed up the ending.. badly...the build up was amazing...just a bad ending. Yuri and Dennis was my spirit animal and I loved his interactions pre Zarc. The bracelet girls got shafted the hardest
Daddy Karina, I can't wait for your next episode about Class Struggles in 5Ds with a brief explanation as to why it's not about Kaiba's tragic existence
These yu-gi-oh rambles are great. Without distracting music or random comical editing sound effects it makes it relaxing to listen to while multitasking. Even if you never make any more of these long winded rambles, I appreciate this
If only Yuzu and Serena didn't each have like 2.5 duels, and allowed to defend their own selves to an extent, instead of going into "let's save my girlfriend who isn't actually my girlfriend and who doesn't actually need to be saved cuz she beat my ass at the beginning of the series and beat my ultra evil reincarnation" mode. I feel like that could've paved the way for a female yugioh series, or at least strong female protags. I understand the show is aimed at young boys, but this whole damsel in distress bullshit is not something to keep feeding the younger generation.
That's so true! I mean they can really defend themselves pretty much especially since their personality shows its but no! They became dumsels in distress😢
@@cruzcruz377 imagine if they extended arc v to the length of the original DM anime and introduced between the standard and synchro dimension chapters and the other two (XYZ and fusion) and added a virtual world ish length mini arc centred on that dimensions respective bracelet girl (except fusion which instead shows Yuri and them slowly becoming the way they are now and eventually joining academia) and I would also extend the fusion arc and add a much larger arc but keep the full ending the way it is (the final reiji vs Yuya duel and the aftermath staying effectively the same(extend the gap between the end of the duel and the last screen so that every character gets a final last moment (and add a scene of zarc and Yuya after Yuya summons the last dragon talking (with a black glow enveloping the child) with the end of the duel having zarc surrender to Yuya with Yuyas hair changing to include all the yu boy's and zarcs hair colours and the after duel extended scene showing the entire world rewriting itself as with zarcs surrender to Yuya congratulating him on surpassing him as Riley smiles and he vanishes ) and the zarc duel yes that duel rewrite it completely and please change the horrible dub voice that makes me want to laugh firstly extend that duel so that zarc starts a interdimesional battle Royale (Note that the xyz arc is also being massively extended)
As a person who keeps up with the card game meta Yes, pendulum summoning has had multiple decks that were broken as fuck So over the years they've had to nerf the entire mechanic into the ground
As someone who also keeps up with the tcg, pendulum were only broken for like 2 weeks then got banned, then were good again for a few months and got banned again, now theyre really bad because konami really does not like them.
@@MrGshinobi it's a bit of a bigger discussion but really the mechanic is just so strong that your only options for balancing it with the rest of the game are printing cards with a lot of restrictions or just nerfing the whole mechanic like the state it's in now they didn't kill the game or anything (except pepe sorta did but ehhh) but it's an insane mechanic, yuya is truly a madlad
I mean when pendulum came out they wasnt that strong. They only meta deck(until 2016) was qliphort. After that they had like 4 more meta decks pepe(qith was tier 0 deck but get banned after 2 weeks or something),magicians, pendulum ftk and endymion. So pendulum could be broken but konami just kinda killed them with banlist and after they realesed endymion there wasnt to much pendulum suport or pendulum archtype.
I find it highly upsetting that Konami doesn't give the players pendulum decks to play with anymore. Sure, we got Endymion a while back, but all the other mechanics get tons of new archetypes every year. New fusion, synchro, XYZ, and Link decks (and some Ritual here and there) pop up like there's no tomorrow. But Pendulum? Nowhere to be seen. Even if we got archetypes that would never be meta-defining like Performapal or Magicians were, it'd still at least be something, but veternan Pendulum players don't even get that. It honestly saddens me.
@@FourthFall As somebody who has tested Dinomists (didn't build it because Electrumite got banned), I feel that Pendulum is actually a pretty bad mechanic on its own (at least post-MR3). You need to either be able to generate a lot of advantage or just not actually be reliant on your Pendulum Summon at all, because otherwise it takes three cards out of your five-card opening hand just to Pendulum Summon one monster. Decks like PePe or Endymion have been powerful because of their excellent card economics, not because of the mechanic itself. Keep in mind my perspective may be a bit skewed, I only started playing competitively at the start of the VRAINS era so I never experienced things like full-power Qliphorts outside of the old YGOPro AI duels.
as someone who has never watched a single episode of yugioh that wasn’t the abridged series, I absolutely have no context for anything but love every second of these videos
"The ending of Arc-V is bad" What are you talking about ? Arc-V ending doesn't exist. The last 10 ep doesn't exist. Only through this wisdome one can really apreciate this show.
Yes sawatari defeated zarc (LIKE HE FUCKING SHOULD HAVE SINCE IT WOULD BE THEMATICLLY FITTING TO HAVE YUYA BE DEFEATED BY THE ENTERTAINMENT DUELS HE BELIEVED IN BUT NOOOO THE WRITERS PULLED OUT THE BIGGEST PIECE OF SHIT DUEL WITH A MONSTER THAT HAD MORE FUCKING EFFECT THEN EARTHHEART DRAGON) and everyone lived happily ever after and that was the ending
God... To this day most of my favourite characters in the Yu-Gi-Oh franchise are from Arc-V... but good lord the plot just fails at the end. #YuboysAndBracletGirlsDeserveToLive #LeoShouldBeInJail #ScrewTheBabySmilingPlot
23:14 lmao I hated that shit so much. I was rewatching Jack’s duel against Sergey recently and those rich suits were talking about how much Jack gives them hope, I was just like “what do yall need hope for yall are literally at the top of the economic ladder”
When they enter the synchro arc it went from a really interesting Yugioh story to a complete shitshow. That cyborg which became a d-wheel was the pinnacle of stupidity, only surpassed by Leo's stupid plan and motivations.
This was great! I felt bad for Shun so much. He really wanted to help get his sister back and ultimately failed. The high points for Arc V imo are the legacy characters and really cool archetypes (which became real!!!).
The little note card that reads LORD HELP ME in the background gives me so much life and happiness. Thank you Karina, I'm almost certain that wasn't intentionally put in the background knowing your aesthetic but I still LOVE it out of context.
Arc V is wasted potential tbh, the first season is fine, though I'd say what hurts the series the most is the synchro dimension. I'm someone who loves Yugioh 5Ds, but the synchro dimension went on too long and I feel like not enough happened to justify how long we spent there. the time in the fusion and xyz dimension felt lacking, and think it's one of the reasons why the ending especially was really rushed. I love Arc V on concept, but the execution is just....well you know, bad.
I mean its not immediately bad, i think the episode up to the prison break one are pretty fun actually. It went really bad when they started the whole Friendship Cup for way too long
@@rahyansuryaramadhan7082 My comment is mainly talking about as a whole this is what hurt the series. Synchro dimension isn't terrible and as mentioned I love 5Ds but the Synchro dimension is way too long of an act as a whole especially when you compare the fusion and xyz dimension. The xyz dimension being the length of the synchro dimension made more sense because we had two main characters from there (we still didn't have a proper connection between Yuya and Yugo) Synchro dimension didn't even have Yuya and Yugo properly meet and meaningfully interact.
Isn't it odd out of all the Kaiba's Noah, mokuba, Gozobura it's the adopted boy who hates his father the most that wears the family name Kaiba on his sleeve.
Therapy : Expensive Watching an hour long video about how Arc V is bad and ruined our lives, knowing full well that I spent my entire first half of high school obsessing over this show (and in particular, your comics of the College AU) and all the fanfic and fanart I did and all the time I spent on it only for it to be bad and crush al my dreams and to finally see someone make the hour long video trashing it : Priceless
Imagine calling someone "Young Lady" because you disagree with their hot takes on a TCG tie-in children's cartoon that stopped airing new episodes over twelve years ago
So look... 👐sis, Arc V is what I call my junk food anime. In fact I feel like Arc V is what helped really understand that you can classify certain anime as "junk food" I feel like even after Arc V my eyes were opened and I saw other anime that could also fall into the"junk food" category. And like actual junk food, there was no nutritional value to watching Yu-Gi-Oh Arc V. I wouldn't say I didn't get anything out of it or didn't have an impact on me (because I sure as shit started drawing awful fanart of it) but like the high I felt from Arc V...it's after eating a donut or eating chips like a machine. It feels good in the moment...then you crash and you feel filthy about yourself; especially by the end. I honestly don't know why I wrote all of that, I think watching this video was like watching my own slow growing frustration with the anime but in fast forward. This video almost felt like a round of consecutive punches to the gut at Mach five speeds. The only thing that probably helped was you're overall calm demeanor. But I writhed in my chair the more you brought to light Arc V's bullshit. Like reading what your favorite snack is made out of and feeling gross about it... Also Julia Krystal (Masumi Kotsu) was givin' shit. A character too good for that anime and that's the only anime will ever see her in, our queen was robbed!.... Anyway sorry, this is a long stupid rant from a tv show I otherwise don't think about as often. But anyone reading this...... you're right, I am dumb. 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 Here's a bunch of claps in hope that the Kaiba video gets made. But otherwise I hope you're doing well.
So really funny thing, you joked in the latest Drawfee video of “what if the viewership dropped during my yu gi oh rambles and returned right after,” but like. The opposite be true for me, I heard you explain it in that video and immediately had to find you explain this. I’ve never even seen this show, I’m just interested in what yall sayin! Thanks for making this sorta lo-fi by the way, this is a great thing to put on while winding down and getting some last-minute work done, really like how chill y’all explaining this
I'm halfway through and this already sounds like my current dnd campaign. Everyone has their own goals and motives and none of them include stopping the war between the elemental planes that will probably kill everyone.
Me, who has watched ARC-V from start to finish when it aired: _grabs popcorn and bingo list_ Also, you've earned a subscriber for making an hour long video about an anime that YGO fans never discuss, let alone other anime goers. EDIT: So after watching the video, a few points! - Ray didn't become Reira. Reira was reincarnated into a baby like Yuya did before the series started, when the dimensions split, and Zarc was stuffed into her. Yuya had to make _Zarc_ smile to keep the dimensions from coming back together. - As far as timelines go, here's my timeline. I co-run a YGO roleplay server that tries to encompass everything, so we had to... wrack over it for a bit; DM is set in 1996, and lasts about six months. DSOD is in the manga timeline, so it doesn't really count (but you could probably make a case that it happened in the anime too.) GX is set in 2004, eight years after DM, and lasts for three years until 2007, when Judai graduates. Zero Reverse happens in late 2007 after Judai graduates, which is the _earliest_ 5D's can start. 5D's begins eighteen years later in 2025 and ends after two years in 2027. ZEXAL has a weird placing, but I've decided to make it concurrent with 5D's. There's no duel statues in Roku's place because at the time, Yusei only just became popular, so he isn't a 'legend class duelist' yet. So no Stardust Dragon statue. Synchros didn't show up because... Konami marketing Xyz. Now we get to ARC-V. Sorry to skimp out on it, but we literally just shoved it into its own timeline (that we can travel to, thanks Kaiba). Lastly, VRAINS (skipping Sevens because idk what to do with that either). VRAINS is said by the writers themselves to be 'ten years in the future' from when it airs, so since it airs in 2017, that would make VRAINS take place in 2027, the same year 5D's would end at its earliest. So to boil that down: DM - 8 years > GX - 18 years > 5D's + ZEXAL - 2 years ish? > VRAINS
1.) On the subject of Zexal and the Duel Lodge...your explanation of the very DM-oriented paraphernalia beyond the statues, e.g. the Eye from the Millennium Items, or Roku's many throwback cards to Yugi's deck specifically? 2.) ua-cam.com/video/YZy_uLsCjYc/v-deo.html
I used to get angry at characters like Shinji, ranting about issues not as important as "the end of the world as we know it". But coronavirus and social climate made me see that people will focus on whatever instead of the big issues, so...points for being realistic I guess.
When it's something directly affecting them in their everyday life that actively threatens their welfare (e.g. police brutality), I can understand not focusing on the likes of corona or climate change. When it comes to the likes of the Tops...eh...police brutality and wage theft and whatnot might still be a big issue, but it's not really focused on concretely.
"just remember we all have bad taste here on the basis of being yugioh fans" Truest meme of 2020 tbh arc V was the only series I watched all the way through, it had a weird way of sucking me in
we all have our series we actually bothered to finish in totality. me I have two in the form of GX and DM, which goes to show how much of a nerd I am i suppose.
Your relationship with Arc V reminds me of my relationship with RWBY. it's like a cousin you love deeply and you have fond memories of, but they joined a cult and it took you like 2 years of watching them make crazy decisions before you realized you just couldn't have them be in your life anymore
Eight characters were vital to the plot, one was the main character, four were tossed into the sidelines and not basically developed at all, three had no development, and barely got screentime. This is a really bad sign.
"it is sayd that every yugioh fan has like there favorite main characters. but they also have these side charterers there hopelessly obsessed with" ... silently thinks of Abidos the Third from gx
ARC-V had flaws in regards to the plot and character development. The Bracelet Girls in particular were used for Leo's Revival Zero plot device. Yuzu and Serena, out of the 4, had a sufficient amount of screen time and duels. Although Yuzu could have dueled more imo. Had Yuzu learned all of the summoning methods, she would have competed against the likes of Yuya, Reiji, and other stronger duelists than her. If you get Rin and Ruri involved, such as escaping from Academia to find the Lancers, this would have developed their characterization even further.
Me who hasn't watched yugioh: "this can't be so complicated" Me at minute 45: "Oh. My. God. WTF is going on" Also I love that by 47:56 Karina has already lost her mind and is laughing like a maniac
as someone who has only watched like 1/3 of the first series, I adore your yugioh videos so much and I love learning your yugioh opinions and the out of context takes on it
35:39 One of my favorite theories involved the first ending. Yuya is shown holding four popsicles: pink, purple, yellow, green. We had seen Rin, Yuzu, and Serena which correspond with green, pink, and purple, so some people were convinced the last girl would be yellow lol. The theory could still work if you make Serena the yellow one instead because of her bow.
Really enjoyed this video and the GX one. 5DS is my favorite Yugioh spin off, but mostly because watching it helped me get through some hard times, and I definitely think GX is a lot better than people give it credit for.. The baby thing at the end of Arc V is even weirder than what you said. Everyone forgot about Yuzu except for Reiji and maybe his mom, don't remember if there's ever an explanation given as to why they didn't forget Yuzu, so Reiji tells Yuya he has to become a great entertainment duelist to make the baby smile so that Zarc isn't reborn again, and that Yuzu might come back if he accomplishes this. Yuya than travels to the various dimensions to basically tie up some of the many loose plot threads, and becomes afraid of summoning any of the dimension dragons besides Odd-Eyes because he thinks he might turn into Zarc if he does. He gets over his fear of summoning the other dragons in his final duel with Jack Atlas, and makes Odd-Eyes versions of all of them in his duel against Reiji which, combined with him acting like an idiot and almost throwing the duel, causes the baby to laugh, which causes the dimensions to re-unify, which causes Yuzu to return. Hope you get some enjoyment out of seeing this long comment!
@@NAPH170 The backstory was erased in amnesia, and then they _repeat_ that story device _again,_ rendering the previous 140 episodes into mere backstory for _this_ final "arc". Total BS, man.

3:35 same face university was my favorite damn thing for a hot second in high school. i didn't even finish arc v but sometimes i look back at that comic and remember it. it had everything: hot engineer rights; weed but not really; the cursed hot topic myspace photo; like 5 separate ill-advised kisses; yuri being an actually interesting character; gays absolutely everywhere; it was a good time. thank you for that, college karina.
Karina you're so right with every single word that you said, i couldn't agree with you more than i already do. Arc V started so strong and with everything to be the second best ygo series (yes, Gx will be first forever), but then it tripped and fell on its face, caught fire and became such a big dumpster fire. I love it, but i hate it. I couldn't help but felt betrayed after following it weekly and staying up until like 4:00am, too, seeing how everything slowly crumbled down while i was trying to keep any hope that it could get better and then... that ending... The girls were done so dirty, the second half was a mess and there was so much wasted potential... I do love Arc V because of all the hype and wonderful things that it gave us, but i also really hate it for the hot mess that it became. Also, YUUGO IS BEST BOY HURRAY!!!!
@@TheFlinchyDinosaur I don't know, it's not really childish, it just has simpler artstyle and rules, and is more light-hearted. But I mean... It can be pretty funny sometimes, definetly more than any of the yugioh series that far, and does a great job at using it's characters which are all pretty unique. And who knows, Zexal looked childish at first but became one of the darkest season so... Maybe it will change. We shouldn't assume something is bad just because it looks childish

We don't even want to get into the Arc-V manga where at the end it's revealed that Yuzu is the mother of the Yu-boys. nvm apparently we do get into that
Arc Vs huge cast becomes so annoying when so many duels are solved by a random person interrupting (taking that sweet 2000 lp penalty) and then just winning the duel in their first turn
Since you wanted to know what happened in production... Dark Side of Dimensions happened. The movie started production halfway through Arc-V, and supposedly funds and animators were funneled from Arc-V into DSoD, which led to a ton of delays in the middle of the Synchro Dimension arc.
That awkard moment in the last arc v episode when the plot resolution and the payoff is so confusing and nosense that the calm and collected Akaba Reiji can't help himself but laughing so hard in the face of everyone is priceless xD love that part ahah love the manga too
Karina I'm gonna be honest I'm 40 minutes in and I haven't really listened to a word you said except the part where some girl is born with a bracelet which boggles the mind. I just really like the background your rambling about a series I haven't watched and most likely never will provides. More Yu Gi Oh rants please.
So the production trouble was solely on the animation side. It was because the studio spent so much time and effort on the Dark Side of Dimensions movie that they got way behind on the show. It came to a peak when vrains launched hence the recap episodes.
@@blaue_sophie1317 And despite spending time with Yugo, Yuzu never inquired anything about synchro summoning, which she could have learned to bolster her dueling skills.

Yeah, a problem with Arc-V: It's driven by 2 people who no longer exist. By the end, those two *still* don't exist, and now 6 other people also don't exist.
So I started this video thinking I had never seen or hear of arc v, I was so wrong, this unlocked far too many memories of watching random episodes out of order on cable television after highschool, I may just have to revisit it just to fully relive that madness in a more structured way.

In some way Arc-v was the best show, because unlike other Yugioh shows that tried to ignor past summoning mechanics and make the new ones overshadow them, this show celebrates every summoning mechanic (except Ritual).

As someone who finished Arc V a few weeks ago, sounds about right.

As a person who keeps up with the card game meta
Yes, pendulum summoning has had multiple decks that were broken as fuck
So over the years they've had to nerf the entire mechanic into the ground
As someone who also keeps up with the tcg, pendulum were only broken for like 2 weeks then got banned, then were good again for a few months and got banned again, now theyre really bad because konami really does not like them.
@@MrGshinobi it's a bit of a bigger discussion but really the mechanic is just so strong that your only options for balancing it with the rest of the game are printing cards with a lot of restrictions or just nerfing the whole mechanic like the state it's in now
they didn't kill the game or anything (except pepe sorta did but ehhh) but it's an insane mechanic, yuya is truly a madlad

When they enter the synchro arc it went from a really interesting Yugioh story to a complete shitshow. That cyborg which became a d-wheel was the pinnacle of stupidity, only surpassed by Leo's stupid plan and motivations.
Aside from that, there was 5D’s pandering written all over
I'm constantly haunted by Arc V's butt rock English opening, it comes for me in the dreaming hour
I feel exactly the same way.
the moment the Synchro Arc started was the moment when everything quickly rolled into a shit fest of the highest fucking degree

Me, who has watched ARC-V from start to finish when it aired: _grabs popcorn and bingo list_
Also, you've earned a subscriber for making an hour long video about an anime that YGO fans never discuss, let alone other anime goers.
- As far as timelines go, here's my timeline. I co-run a YGO roleplay server that tries to encompass everything, so we had to... wrack over it for a bit;
DM is set in 1996, and lasts about six months. DSOD is in the manga timeline, so it doesn't really count (but you could probably make a case that it happened in the anime too.)
GX is set in 2004, eight years after DM, and lasts for three years until 2007, when Judai graduates.
So to boil that down:
DM - 8 years > GX - 18 years > 5D's + ZEXAL - 2 years ish? > VRAINS
1.) On the subject of Zexal and the Duel Lodge...your explanation of the very DM-oriented paraphernalia beyond the statues, e.g. the Eye from the Millennium Items, or Roku's many throwback cards to Yugi's deck specifically?

GX literally stands for generation 10

How about a massage chair as a duelist?
I used to get angry at characters like Shinji, ranting about issues not as important as "the end of the world as we know it". But coronavirus and social climate made me see that people will focus on whatever instead of the big issues, so...points for being realistic I guess.
When it's something directly affecting them in their everyday life that actively threatens their welfare (e.g. police brutality), I can understand not focusing on the likes of corona or climate change. When it comes to the likes of the Tops...eh...police brutality and wage theft and whatnot might still be a big issue, but it's not really focused on concretely.

"it is sayd that every yugioh fan has like there favorite main characters. but they also have these side charterers there hopelessly obsessed with"
... silently thinks of Abidos the Third from gx

One of my favorite theories involved the first ending.
