In books Jane was American and Tarzan was first taught to speak french by Paul D’arnot. Later he had the capacity to pick up and learn any language very quickly. One does not expect a cartoon to go into that much detail . I suppose us English was as near to ape language they could get !

If me and Clayton were friends, you know we would HANG out all day! 😎
Fun Fact: The signature "Tarzan yell" is provided by Brian Blessed, the voice of this movie's villain Clayton. because after noticing that Tony Goldwyn could not make a convincing scream, Blessed went to one of the producers to tell him that he could do it, the producer refused at first but after he yelled in front of him, he accepted without hesitation.

That's a Leopard. Cheetahs are far too weak to try and take on a Gorilla and Jaguars live in North America and South America, not Africa. And yes, Leopards have been recorded hunting Gorillas in the wild. Sometimes even straight-up beating them in one-on-one fights. I actually had an idea for a fanfic where Kerchak's treatment of Tarzan, and refusal to accept him has terrible consequences. There is an old African proverb which says-"The child who is not embraced by the village will burn it down to receive its warmth".
What if after being treated as an outcast by Kerchak, and being told that he will "never be one of us" for so long caused Tarzan to turn evil? What if Tarzan finally snapped, and decided that if Kerchak would never see him as anything other than a threat, then why not give him what he wants? The irony of it all would be that Kerchak treated Tarzan badly for so long because he thought he'd become a threat, but in reality, it was that very treatment that actually CAUSED Tarzan to become a threat, turning it into a Self-Fulfilling Prophecy. In this very moment, Kerchak finally realizes that if he HAD just accepted Tarzan from the beginning, he would never have turned bad.
Of course, Tarzan would eventually turn back to the good side with the help of both Jane, and Kala before it's too late to stop Clayton.

As an adult, I can understand Kerchuck a little more. He is just protecting his own. I am sure in his experience, he experienced humans before Tarzan (I am assuming) and it makes sense how he gets territorial. At least, he did not kill Jane or her father. Clayton was the problem. It makes sense why he can never trust Tarzan.
Honestly, I would just let Kerchuck go after Clayton, but I get Tarzan was trying to do the right thing. Also Disney.
I wish Kerchuck did not have to die right when he forgave Tarzan and let him join the family again.
It took me forever to notice Clayton being hanged by the vines. Someone had to point that out to me.

in the book Tarzans parents survived for at least a few years in the jungle (building a very sturdy reinfoced house in a clearing) and the father killed many members of the gorilla tribe before slipping up with the door lock, leading to kertchak killing him. Tarzans mother died of semi natural causes, suffering what we would call post-partum depression

Some good "dark" animated movies I always loved, growing up:
    1. "Pinocchio," the Disney Studios 2nd film. I've always loved this movie. Owned the soundtrack on vinyl as a kid. It took several views for me to realize just how dark this movie is. Literally! Most of the film takes place at night. The older I get the more I notice the serious, moralistic themes in the movie. As dark as it is, however, this version of the story is pretty light compared to the book, which is much darker. Although the scene at the end with Monstro the Whale is pretty terrifying. I still marvel at the amount of hand-drawn animation it took to make this film. There was no computer animation in the 1940s.
    2. "The Black Cauldron" A low-point in the Disney Studio's history. Not an awful film, but unlike "Pinocchio" (which is excellent), this one had a long and turbulent history at Disney for years before it was finally made, and it underwent several re-writes, and whole scenes were scrapped and re-drawn and scrapped again. It was a mess, and it shows. But it's worth seeing once, especially if you like creepy animation involving castles, goblins and an army of demonic skeletons.
    2. "The Secret of NIMH" This was Don Bluth's first movie (he would later go on to make "The Land Before Time," "An American Tale," "All Dogs Go To Heaven" and "The Iron Giant." Based on a kids book "Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH." This story has some sad moments and some serious drama. In one scene alone we witness the deaths of three important supporting characters. The acronym NIMH stands for "National Institute of Mental Health." So that should give you some idea of the more serious elements of the story-line. The movie does have a very happy ending however, and the Bluth Studio's animation never looked better.
    4. "Watership Down" An animated Warner Brothers film made in 1978 (not to be confused with the 2018 version), based on a very good book by Richard Adams. This one is rated PG as it has some fairly bloody violence for an animated film. But it's a lovely story about a group of rabbits looking for a new home. I read somewhere once that this story is an allegory about the plight of the Jewish people. The way the movements of the rabbits are depicted is very realistic and non-cartoonish. I've had pet rabbits and I know how they move, and I can tell the animators did their homework for this film. I showed "Watership Down" to a friend back in the 90s, and to this day he still loves this film. The characters all have European accents, mostly British, and the rabbits have their own language themselves, so the dialogue in the movie can be a little hard to understand (unless you've watched it a dozen times like I have). The book even came with a glossary of words the rabbits use for everything from automobiles to God. Art Garfunkel sings a song called "Bright Eyes" in this film that always brings a tear to my eyes. I love this movie! But for kids it is a little bit scary and has some tragic moments.
    5. "The Plague Dogs," Another Richard Adams book made into a powerful animated movie by Warner Brothers. Be aware this one is PG-13. Out of the 5 movies I've listed, THIS is one I would NOT recommend to kids at all. But I list it because of this one's relation to the previous movie mentioned, and the fact that it's a very well made movie. Even though it is quite bleak and sad. We watched it in a high school Sociology class back in the mid 90s (I'm 44 now) and there was one moment in the film that made the whole class gasp in shock. I even seen a buddy of mine cry at the end. The film is, in large part, a criticism of cruel animal experimentation, but it also addresses the mass hysteria that happens among a population when they fear an outbreak of deadly disease. In the wake of the COVID panic, this film will definitely hit a nerve! Yeah.... watch if you dare. This one stays with you a while.... (fyi - surprisingly, the book has a happier ending. Like waaaaaaaaaay happy! The movie: eh, not so much!

    • @aliyahpulido953

Oooohhhh! Thank you for mentioning "The Secret of NIMH," I LOVED that movie as a little kid! I still watch it! I still have it on DVD, but it's also free on UA-cam right now, if you want to relive the nostalgia in just a few seconds from now (lol). I stumbled upon the book a couple years after watching the movie, because my child self didn't know movies could be based on books (or vice-versa in E.T. the Extraterrestrial's case. Yes, I read the book, they added a LOT of internal thoughts from ET's perspective since he can't talk for much of the movie. They also took some liberties with scenes and... for some reason, made ET have a crush on Elliot's mom??? IDK, the movie was better and ET was cuter/more lovable in the movie, while in the book he was an elderly, knowledgeable botanist trapped on a planet of simpletons.) Anyways, I digress.
I loved the book and movie equally; the book had more characters and story arcs and contextual information in it and it was a smidge darker, but both were enchanting! The book was kind of like Alice in Wonderland while the movie put Mrs. Brisby at the front and empowered her more, since there wasn't a magical amulet or any magic at all, in the original book. (Her surname was Frisby in the book, which they changed for the movie so the wouldn't get copyrighted for the name of the Frisbee toy.) I also love that John Bluth was denied at first to make the movie because Disney said they already had both a mouse character, which was Mickey, and a mouse movie, "The Rescuers." But he did it anyway without Disney's help and had his own film company make it with a MUCH lower budget than a Disney film and it was STILL very well-received (93% on Rotten Tomatoes). I also saw the sequel, which was a musical and was made without Don Bluth's input on anything... I *sorta* liked it as a kid, but upon further inspection, it pales in comparison to the original stories. Also it's a musical. NO. Just, no.

This movie is a masterpiece, loved it since the first time all those years ago... My favorite part however is Tarzan in the beginning, loved the diaper scenes, baby Tarzan is easily the cutest Disney baby ever, even in a full diaper

When I was little, my family would make faun of me for being afraid of Tarzan because it was so dark! LIKE, HELLO?!?! Why am I called a crybaby for realizing that the tiger mauled the baby gorilla to death AND THEN mauling the parents to death--WHOSE BODIES I DID SEE BUT APPARENTLY NO ONE ELSE DID--BUT FOR SOME REASON, I'M A CRYBABY FOR BEING SCARED OF A SUBTLY DARK MOVIE???? WOULDN'T ANY 5-YEAR-OLD BE??!?!?! Apparently not, so I digress!
    Also, love the vid Lakia!

I loved Tarzan as a kid (but ive always been a crazy cat lady, so maybe i just forgave the jaguar?) But i felt fear from snowwhite! My dad told me that i refused green apples at a young age( before i could explain), when we went to Disneyland and rode snowwhite i pointed to the green poison Queen was dipping the apples in. Dad laughed (hes never force apples on me again though. I knew what was going on.)
