    Without a doubt, the best skate of her amature career. I remember. I was there.
    17,500 people in Copps Collesium were on their feet before she finished.

    It's such a shame she was only able to accomplish a performance like this once... she would have a medalist throughout her career had she been able to replicate this type of excitement, technical content, and artistry! Still, I am so glad it happened for her on this night!

      Agreed! For the life of me though, I will never understand why her coaches put the triple flip first in her long program - which was easily her least consistent jump. Considering Josee was such a confidence skater, they’d have been better served having her start with the lutz, then toe loop, then the flip. It’s almost like they wanted to get the flip out of the way.

      @@allezmary79 Some skaters do a similar set-up like this, though. Both Michelle Kwan and Maria Butyrskaya opened their FS with their worst triples (Loop and Flip, respectively), especially later in the competitive careers. However, skaters like Kwan also didn't have a history of falling apart if they missed their first jump, like Josee did. So your point is well-taken.

    This era in skating was the best. I miss it. She was my favorite skater- even to this day- no one has such a charisma like her. I hope figure skating rebounds to this popularity once again. It's a great sport and one of the hardest to master. Side note: Thank god they got rid of figures- by one remember them? Yuck

      How could skaters from back of the day forget the compulsory (school) figures? Many skaters thought that "patch was the pits"! That's how figure skating got its name, from the different forms of the figure eight that skaters completed on parts of the ice called "patches". Forward outside eight is the first compulsory figure that skaters learn. Then it's on to serpentines (three-lobe figures featuring changes of edge), threes, double-threes, loops, brackets, counters, rockers, and paragraphs (tracing figures three times without a change of foot or stop, one continuous triple repetition).

    Perhaps one of the biggest unfulflled skating talents. When on she had huge powerful jumps, effervescent spins, amazing footwork - all those little hops even in the spins are very very hard, great charisma, muisciality and presence. She just couldn't do it when it counted - and she lways seemed to be in tears. Canada may not have had h uge successin ladies though Osmond did world gold but going back to Manley, Chouinard, Rochette and Osmond - when they are on their jumps were masterpieces -huge power,height, distance and flow - todays GOEs would have been fives.

      I was so sad for her at the 1994 worlds when she was 3rd heading into the free skate and just disintegrated in the LP. She was more than capable of medialling at worlds.

    vistaprime, while Sandhu and Josee were both inconsistent competitors, the reasons were different: Josee was almost "too nice", she didn't have that grit and toughness, while Sandhu was temperamental and made excuses for his bad performances. Josee didn't make excuses, she just wanted it too badly.

      Sadly that was the real case. When she lost, instead of saying “I’ll do better next time” she said “I can’t do it”. She had so much potential really, just threw it down the drain, she was a fighter in the inside but never had the courage to show it. I remember on VHS tape there were clips of her landing 3A in practice (‘92-‘94) and trust me she landed 3F-3T on the daily. Ultimate practice skater if you ask me.

    It was frustrating to watch. She really was the best skater in 93-94....just not the best competitor.

    Such natural talent, when she was on, the jumps were spectacular. Her chronic back problems were a big part of her consistency issues and......nerves.

  • @eyen30
    @eyen30 2 роки тому +2

    It’s strange that she was able to achieve decent height on her jump, but somehow seemed to always land them with stiff knee and shaky exit.

    • @flightoflightning2505
      @flightoflightning2505 7 місяців тому +1

      She had a chronic back illness, hence the shaky landings, since it was hard for her to keep upper body posture.

    oh how I loved Josee, the total package that could just not find her A skate on the day needed, the very emotion we see here perhaps her Nemesis, as her nerves seem to get the best of her, Kiira Korpi reminds me a lot of her.
    JOSEE WE WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU!

    What an enormous WASTE of talent. Headcase. If I was her, I'd still bang my head with regret. Best edges, jumps, interpretation for like 3 years, but did nothing but BOMB! Not only that, but she could land the triple axel and 3lutz/3 toe in practice. SHe could have won 93/94 worlds wit back to back clean skates and the 94 Olympics with 2 clean skates too. Instead she finished a nobody!

      She’s not a waste of talent at all. Did you ever see her professional career? Probably one of the most successful skaters in the world of pros. Competing is very hard and not everyone can be a world or Olympic medalist. I hope you realize that. Shame on you for being so rude. I’d like to see YOU go out there and even try stand up on skates.
