This song was the first one I heard by Neil Young and the one who made me an instant fan. I even wrote poetry about it because it had such a profound effect on me.
As the dawn broke the sky with the morning sun, they were playing an old one by Neil Young.
As his pure falsetto, broke the refrain, it made me feel like being born again.
And it It sounded real good, as it went straight through, down to the heart, of my primal soul.
and it sounded better, than anything before, as I became baptized, with his holy words
His words, they spoke to me, like something ancient, yet on to the future, through quiet revelation.
and he saw the world, through the eyes of the child, while seeing the same, in the eyes of the old.
His words so simple, yet meaning so much. He could plant some empathy in the coldest of hearts.
He could write a novel, with barely one line. Choose just the right words, to change your mind.
This was the music, that made its mark, that started the passion and lit that spark, the spark that changed this poet’s words, that made me aspire to change my world.

Took it down from D to C after all these years. But he nailed it. Good for him!!!

Sort of bringing the song full circle in a way since he plays it in C on some of the very first performances of it from 1970

I am so grateful that you have uploaded this, I am trying to learn this song on guitar and your recording has definitely helped! Not many people my age (20) are into Neil Young sadly

If you look up JustinGuitars and ShutupAndplay
they both have good tutorials. Chords aren't bad but it's tough to get it sound right.

@xunit94 now that a decade has gone by, are you still into Neil Young? Did you ever learn the song? How does the world seem to you at 30, versus 20?

@@alabamaoffshorefishing Wow absolutely mind blowing that its already been 10 years! I was able to fully learn the song and can still play it to this day as it is one of my favs. I gotta say, going from 20 to 30 has been quite a ride. Lots of change in my life, myself, and the world. Not as much free time anymore and different kinds of stresses. Thank you for the question, gave me an opportunity to reflect a bit! Hope life is going well for you.

I do have Cortez. It was the opener of the second set and the first one he was standing up for, walking around. That caused me to position the camera differently and it's a little shaky compared to the rest of these which are pretty much steady. Plus, part way through there was a security concern so the picture goes black for about 20 seconds until I can reposition. The song itself is great though. :) I could post but I'm afraid people are spoiled by these good ones. I have a lot more that are real steady. Southern Man, Only Love Can Break Your Heart, Harvest Moon, After the Gold Rush, etc. They probably more worthy of posting that Cortez.

Well I guess if you are willing to shell out several hundred dollars to go to the concert you can do what you want. Neil should be ashamed of himself for pricing the tickets so high.
