Personally, I think the family aspect made the movie into the most heartbreaking entry yet. You've got a character who loves her children a lot, who gradually transforms herself and her kids into a complete perversion of a family unit and forces her sister to take them down in the most horrid fashion imaginable.

I think the pregnancy angle does a lot more than just up the ante with the tension with her death or lack thereof because after her sister dies she's in charge of taking care of these kids and it's like an over-exaggerated/extreme preparation for taking care of kids. I think the implication would be that she's going to adopt her niece after all this is said and done. Even though realistically she's probably going to get locked up for all these dead people and the niece is probably going to have to go into foster care and have a lot of therapy.

  • @BagEyes2009
    @BagEyes2009 Рік тому +5

So I think she was coming to her sister to talk about the pregnancy and was torn if she was going to keep the baby or not. Through all she went through protecting the kids (or mainly kid) it helped her decide to keep the baby. IMO that is why the pregnancy makes sense for part of the story. Could be wrong but that is how I read it.

"The Abomination" when all of the Deadites were comjoined together at the end was so badass, and that is what they wanted to do in 2013, but did not have the budget for. You see a drawing of it in The Book of The Dead in 2013, but ultimately it was just an evil version of the main character. This movie took it further, and I love how they kept most of it in shadow, not revealing too much.

I think compared to the 2013 movie, it can see the critique of it being “watered down”.
The 2013 movie went HARD, lots of close ups of the torture and amazing effects that they show in detail.
A good example of this one being “watered down” if you will, was the cheese grater. When I saw that in the trailer, I thought we would see a close up of the skin peeling and going through the grater but instead it was just a quick scrape and they show Beth’s leg and it just didn’t look as brutal as I thought it would be 🤷‍♂️.
Still a great movie and did some things new but I felt like it retreaded a lot of the same tropes and characters elements. Here’s hoping they make a direct sequel and not another reboot/remake and they really do some new stuff that makes it less predictable!

    • @abrimfulofasha

I thought the Beth pregnancy sub-plot was cool because in the beginning she's scared and seems like she isn't sure what she'll do about it. That was why I made the comment on the poster being telling yesterday. By seeing the poster, I knew that the mother and the two eldest children were screwed. They shouldn't have had that picture, it gave that aspect away, which did in a way, knowing that, take certain surprise elements out of the film. But it was a banger!

I loved this film…..but 2013 will always be my favourite, it wasn’t as narly as the 2013 version in my opinion….only way I can see it was watered down is this 2 of the kills were off screen, and the kills weren’t as brutal as 2013 in my opinion….but that’s the only way I could see why someone said it’s watered down.

HIGH-RISE HORROR: quarantine, Rec 1 and Rec 2, delicatessen (directed by the Alien 4 guy), and I know there was like a Korean or Japanese movie where there's a guy stuck in a high-rise not really a horror movie but it's scary.
And then there's another one with like rage-filled zombies and there's a guy and a girl from two different condos I know there is like a foreign version and then there's a Korean remake

Evil Dead Rise, my first actual EVIL DEAD movie in THEATERS, was the BEST HORROR EXPERIENCE I've ever had.
Small story short, my first Evil Dead film i ever saw was the 2013 film. Hands down, THE MOST METAL ASF horror film I've ever seen. And thus, gave birth to my love for not just horror movies, but EVIL DEAD IN GENERAL. I've waited years and years for a new Evil Dead movie to come out, and then there was Evil Dead Rise.
The trailers, from green to red band, all the theories, etc, had me HUNGRY to see this in theaters.
Despite me not being able to see it on night one, April 10th...
May 4th 2023, i officially saw my first Evil Dead movie in THEATERS:
    *🔥🔥🔥EVIL DEAD RISE🔥🔥🔥*

I can’t believe how much I loved this film either, I was looking forward to it and knew I would enjoy it. But didn’t expect it to be on the same level as the 2013 film. Which it was. I can’t choose with I prefer. The sound design and cinematography were stunning, I actually liked the characters. Good performances from everyone! The family dynamic definitely added an emotional edge. As a mother now, films involving motherhood do hit differently. There is no limits to how far I’d go to protect my child.
Can’t believe someone said this film is watered down ?? 🤣 so much blood!! It was great !! Also awesome to see something so graphic on the big screen!
And a answer to your first question about the next big franchise to have a new movie! Ive got one! SAW!!! Woooooooo. But I know your into that franchise much, but your right about no old new upcoming films from the old classic franchises. Unfortunately 😭 I’m sure we won’t have to wait for long till something is announced with how well all these films are doing. Saw is more of a “modern” big franchise as its post 2000. But I’m counting down the months haha. Next big film for me this year.

I shot a short reaction for this movie last night. Lots of positives, but it's probably my least favorite of the five we've had thus far. In all honesty, it's okay for people to have different opinions about this film. Let's all come together, unite, and celebrate horror. This is a beloved franchise, so fans are going to have strong reactions from different perspectives. For instance, when you said you thought Evil Dead Rise felt more like an Evil Dead film than the 2013 remake, I nearly spit out my drink lol. I couldn't disagree more. But you know what? That's okay. If everyone felt the same way about every new movie that came out, reviews would be boring and pointless. Also, please don't let one rando on the internet who said the movie was "watered down and woke" ruin your day. Love you, Lee. Keep doing what you do and stay positive! : ]

To be honest, I was expecting too much. You and other UA-camrs I follow liked it so much and we shared similar taste in films, I thought I was going to love it myself but I got so disappointed. First the cast and characters sucked, I don't know if I hated or worst, didn't care about them due to the actors cause their expressions were so weak, if that shit happened to real people they would not react like that! The heroine sucked acting bad, at least Bruce on his first movie ever The Evil Dead, he had such great facial expressions that were believable but on this film the only good actor was the redhead mother. She was fucking amazing and you can notice she was having a blast with her acing. I wish she was the heroine and not her sisters. She stole the film for me but another complain, the movie felt so boring to me, it took way too long for the possessions to happen. Then, there's the thing about now being 3 books? I really wish this was as good as Fede Álvarez Evil Dead but to me, this is the worst of the franchise.

Great review! I really enjoyed it also; just 1 point on your opinion surrounding the pregnancy angle. I disagree with you on the relevance of it to the plot as you do get the mention of ‘two souls’ as the deadite smells her stomach and acts as though they are going to claw in, which added tension to the scene. Also - considering that Beth adopts the maternal role over the surviving children immediately after the mother is possessed, it’s almost like a dark trial run for parenting so like her being pregnant and being clueless about raising a child but then being responsible for keeping 3 alive and defending them added a unique dynamic to the character. All just opinions though! Hope you have a good one Lee

I would argue that this is the most disturbing movie of the franchise. Not just from all the gore but from a story perspective.
