  • The Vulcan arriving at RNAS Yeovilton on Friday 10th July just after 7pm. After a slow fly-by late in the evening, the Vulcan came in to land but was approaching too low and had too power up for a second attempt making huge down draughts that nearly knocked us over! Turn up the volume to appreciate the engine roar. (Sorry for the poor video from my phone)
The Vulcan didn't manage to fly in the airday on saturday due to a technical problem, so only a few lucky people who were waiting on Friday evening got to see this beautiful plane. Cheers, Alastair MacAndrew.

    Cheers,
    Glad I uploaded it!
I did wonder if we were a little too close, but what an experience!

    Incredible footage.
Love the noise, not many people have been so close to a howling vulcan. Must have been scary as hell for a moment.
    XH558 live long and prosper!

This was a standard missed approach that 558 does at all airfields she is arriving at to check for windshear and other weather related anomalies that could hamper the aircraft during the critical landing phase, it also allows the pilot to check the view as the Vulcan lands with a steep nose up attitude. Great to hear the Olympus roar though and gr8 video.

It is nice to see that in some places people can still get really close to airplanes without all that secrurity crap. That close landing is exhilarating! I hope they will keep her flying for a really long time. 558 IS FANTABULOUS!

558 did this at coventry fly in last year just as she passed where I was stood! Then she went into a very steep climb with the air brakes still out! The power of the Olympus engines is incredible, simply amazing!

I've heard that yes just simply staggering how she can still climb at such a rate with them out, just shows the power of the Olympus, in her full 2011 display she does a double spiral climb over the airfield with them out for that very reason I love it! British engineering at it's best !

at 1:06 did those people in the back of the shot run, because they didn't want to get landed on or because they didn't want to get blown away by 4 of the best engines in history? i saw it at farnbourgh and i know what you mean by your ears hurt afterwards! it is a truly magnificent aircraft, and its british! good to see such an amazing plane back in the sky.

I think you should rename the title to undershoot!, seemed to take forever and a day for the old motors to spool up. Nice
