pal2tech shoot with exposure preview off . I think that needs to be on a function button because sometimes in low light, you need to see the brightest view you can get to find the correct spot to focus and meter on.
Hi, I believe you also need to change and/or verify the focal length when you want to use the shoot without lens setting. I also hope the camera does not revert to this if/when I want to use my Fuji lenses.

Whether I record through Rodecastr Pro and a podmic, Senheiser lav or rode video mic: always noisy, or I have to lower preamps to - 30+ db, and then increase the sound in post, then denoise it. Never had such issues with my GH5..

A big thank you from Germany. Just bought an X-T3 and watched this video. As I regularly use my cams with remote triggered flashes, I put "preview exp/white bal" to both "MY MENU" and "Q MENU". And for safety, to the AE-L function button (why use AE-L when you can expose manually so easily with Fuji?) The video reminded me to set "shoot w/o lens" to on. I can remember a very cold night about 2 yrs ago, when I wanted to shoot the stars with my new Rokinon 12mm/2.0 - me fumbling with the X-T2 for 15 minutes, and i could not find the reason the camera was doing nothing. When I finally remembered, there is a menu setting for this, I was not able to find it in the menu... And I also remember a video about a photography "Masterclass" and one studend came from a street photography trip with his camera, wanted to show his glorious pictures... and nothing! ;-)
As someone who had previously owned this camera also, I completely forgot about shoot without lens option and nearly freaked out. I bought this camera from a small time dealer for very cheap and was beginning to think I had been swindled somehow! But nope! just had a Novoflex on for my Nikkors. Thanks for the help!

Ulannaq Ingemann Thank you Ulannaq!!! Hey, are you from Greenland or shot films there? I see some on your channel. I was in Greenland in 1994 for a week or so. Very special place.
Great video! New xt3 owners definitely ask about all these. Another one I think is worthy is to reassign the 1.25 crop sportsfinder mode to a different setting. As everyone accidentally sets this with their nose or finger swipe. What did you use to capture your camera evf/lcd?
Hey Reggie! Thank you! You are so right about the touch 1.25 issue on the back -- that had tripped me up as well. I will mention this soon for sure. About the EVF/LCD capture, for that video I ran it through an external HDMI recorder. In this case, I used the Atomos Ninja V. I have a brief (but failed) unboxing video of that here: ua-cam.com/video/Wh38g7o2TFk/v-deo.html. Keep up the great work, LOVE your channel!
Hey Tom, that is great to hear, thank you. Yes, flash photography can be a bit of a challenge when you first start to get into it. But don't worry, once you get the hang of it it will become second nature and you will wonder how you ever survived before without it. Keep practicing and you will get some amazing photos!
Great tips I apply them to my new XS10 which I'm absolutely loving! Unfortunately, there isn't very many how-to videos on that model yet :( Thank you so much for all your great videos!
It's the Godox TT685F: amzn.to/2UPmhkv. I LOVE that flash. To get square crop preview or 16/9, you go into image size settings following the info on this page: fujifilm-dsc.com/en/manual/x-t3/menu_shooting/image_quality_setting/index.html#image_size

@@pal2tech congrats, will look forward to the review on 50-140, as I'm looking to buy 2 Fujinon lenses with X-T3, enjoyed your video on lens markings..
Nice vid! I find the first setting a frustrating one because there is no way to unbury it by adding it to My Menu and Fuji refuses to add an option to their menu system to open up at the last used setting. You're always starting from scratch when you want to toggle the setting on and off. The second and third settings are kind of one-and-done; you only need to set them once. The fourth one can be added to a custom function button.
I'm trying to get better with my XT3 and have a quick question regarding the white balance fix - does this only apply when using a flash? Or is it a setting that should be changed regardless of circumstance?
Great suggestion Kristi! I should do an entire video on that setup, best practices, etc. I use the Quick menu all the time but mostly to modify my video settings -- where I have most of them stored for easy access, such as framerate, etc.
Great video again and this time with an epic drone footage intro. Seriously daggy dad jokes and I love it. Keep the X-T3 content and 'tog tips coming! Would have to double check on this, but aren't you supposed to turn "shoot without lens" off when you clean the sensor? Haven't cleaned the sensor, but I thought I saw that in a video on sensor cleaning...
Yep , the "shoot without lens" thing had me confused for a moment when I tried to use an adapted Nikon lens on the X-T3, but much menu hunting later had it up and (manual focus ) running.

BTMovieSecondChannel Yeah, I’m loving the build quality. Still struggling though with best way to run it through using either a pre-amp or connect to Tascam DR40 and record directly into that. At least I’ve not dropped it yet! :-)

Thank you so much Mike! Great suggestion. Until then: are you using the histogram in the camera? Or the Live Peak Highlight View? Both are such a great help to avoid blowing out the highlights -- in fact is use them in lieu of the DR settings on the camera -- which don't really affect the RAW files anyway.
Hi! Hi - thank you and newer to XT-3. Is there a tip for setting the grid display? It applies when in video mode as well? Cheers (loving your videos - well contributed for my camera option! Got it today!!!)
Hi Carlos! Thank you so much for the kind words and congratulations on your new X-T3 camera! As far as setting up the grid display, I recommend using the rule of thirds display - as well as making sure that you have the histogram appear in your display. You will find this in your menu settings located where the little Allen wrench is. Let me know if you can't find it.
@@pal2tech One of the things that I find more pleasant is the interaction on the channel, specially when we just make an idea from what you are trying to portrait and really matches with reality...meaning, thank you just for replying. Agree with others ... good videos. Would like to see you do something on cleaning filters and lenses please? We all get junk on our 'exposed glass', in my case it's the UV filter I use to protect the 18 - 55 kit on my XT-3. But I also switch/add a CP and variable ND from time to time and they get crap on them too. I'm probably doing it wrong because I end up smearing as much as I remove? Your thoughts? PS ... I'm afraid to do too much for fear of rubbing off those "coatings" that are advertised as important.
Best practice is to use a blower or brush to get any grit off. You don't want to grind a particle of sand, for example, against the glass. Then use a wet cleaner to clean off anything that might smear. Don't use just any window cleaner though; you don't want to remove coatings. These Zeiss wipes are safe, cheap and disposable. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01E9NC2Z4/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Finally, if you see streaks after step #2, a soft, clean microfiber cloth will take them right off. Having said all that, you have to do an extraordinary amount of damage to your front element (or filter) before it has *any* effect on image quality. Small surface scratches don't matter at all. A layer of fine dust doesn't matter. Same with dust inside the lens. These things don't affect the final image. (Removing the coatings on the filter or front element would matter though.)
The dial under the shutter speed is there to set the exposure metering. Best to leave it set on the third one. Some more information on this setting is here: fujifilm-dsc.com/en/manual/x-t3/taking_photo/photometry/index.html
Been trying to figure out, how to lock the shutter to take consecutively pictures, (for star trails). When using the interval timer it has a min 1 sec delay which causes gaps between the trails. Is there any other method or setting I could try?
Hey! What is the fastest way on the X-T3 to switch from stills to video? Or is it only on the X-T4 that you can switch into video mode with your pre custom settings?
Not a dumb question at all. You would turn it on when shooting in dark environments with manual flash. Where it's too dark to see the subject clearly, but you don't want to do things to increase the brightness of the EVF like increase ISO, etc.
Hi. I have been struggling for quite a while. Trying to shot videos with my XT3 and lick the exposure. I have tried to set this in continuous and manual shooting with no luck. I have set the AEL button on the top back of the camera also. That doesn’t come in like the AEF does in blue. Please help me. Thanks!!!
Hi Melanie, I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble with that. When you mentioned that you have no luck with manual shooting, what do you mean? You can set the camera and continuous and still have manual control over your exposure. You really shouldn't need to use the AEL button whatsoever if you are manually shooting. In fact, it doesn't really do anything in that mode.
Hi pal2tech - I know you can find any solution for settings, Do you know how to whiten teeth setting in fujifilm camera (Not in post). :) thanks for your secrets men!
I am trying to figure out what I am doing wrong here. I just got my XT-3 and I have been playing around the various simulations eterna, velvia, acros etc. I have my setting to capture raw and fine. When I view my files in Capture One and Lightroom, I notice that the RAF files have the simulations baked into them. I was expecting the files to be flat, in which I then edit to my liking using the editor of choice. Am I checking something that shouldn't be checked? I am using the latest version firmware 3.0 Any suggestions or solutions?
Hey Mark. Ok, first the good news: No way possible the film sims are baked into the RAW files. RAW is just digital data from the sensor with zero processing. If you are seeing them this way in C1 and LR, then this is because the program has to apply at least ONE film or other simulation or translation in order to display the file at all. Basically the RAW is unreadable, ones and zeroes, and in order for you to open and view it at all, the program has to apply some sort of translation, i.e., a film sim in order to display it on your screen. This is normal. In your case, the programs determine they are Fujifilm RAW files and default to whatever film sim is set on them. In LR, you can set to Adobe color and that would remove the Fujifilm specific ones. Even when you open the RAW in a preview program, like Windows Image Viewer or the preview program on the Mac, some sort of translation is being applied. You might want to look into some kind of flat film sim to apply upon import if you need to. For me, I use either Adobe Color or Provia as a starting point.
Can anyone help me. Do you need to remove the XT3 battery grip to allow you to charge the 3rd battery housed inside the XT3 body. Thanks. Brynn --- Stafford --- UK.
Shooting with out a card happened to me. Was walking my dog in the wood where I saw amazing sight. A deer with tiny 2 offsprings, took several perfect photos. Was really looking foreward to come home and see what I got. When I came home I did not knew wheter I should cry or laugh....
@@pal2tech Ahh not hard, had a good laugh though XD The offspring was near my home and got some later shoots of them. But somehow I always got the wrong lense with me. Since I wanted to take photos of the woodland with a wider lense.
I have set 1 button as film simulation (AF-L) with factory settings and another button as custom film settings (Fn4). The problem is if I use e.g. C1 with custom settings for my first shot and then go to e.g. PROVIA standard in subsequent shots the camera automatically changes the settings (WB, highlights, etc. to the custom settings of C1. I do want to keep the film simulation and custom settings independent of each other. I would appreciate if you could help me solve this dilemma.
The closest thing they have for still is called Live View Highlight Alert. Not quite the same thing. In movie mode of course, they have the zebra warning, but check out the hightlight alert for stills on XT3.

Great idea!! Added to the video to-do list! Thank you!!!
I'm confused by the Preview Exp/WB in Manual Mode feature. What is its purpose? Do I only use this when I'm shooting without a flash?
great video, can you tell me what is the dial under located the speed dial (500, 1000, 2000) what, when , how to use it for. thx
Hi can you tell me how to restore factory settings on an fuji x-t3 please.
Thankyou so much for this.. LOVE YOU BROTHER
Trying to get used to the XT-3 coming from Canon, thanks for the videos!
man I ask what camera are you using for this video?
Fujifilm X-T3.
In the Q menu, how can I put this back to BASE? I only see base C1.(just a beginner)thank you.
Hey! What is the fastest way on the X-T3 to switch from stills to video? Or is it only on the X-T4 that you can switch into video mode with your pre custom settings?
Try the movie silent mode feature. That would be what I would recommend as it will retain your settings.
Hi. So under what circumstances would you turn on preview exp/wb in manual mode. Sorry for the dumb question. Thanks.
Not a dumb question at all. You would turn it on when shooting in dark environments with manual flash. Where it's too dark to see the subject clearly, but you don't want to do things to increase the brightness of the EVF like increase ISO, etc.
pal2tech Many thanks!
Thanks Chris
I like your advices
Thanks Lucy!!
What is lens modulation optimizer in xt4 i should be on Or off???
In fact, it doesn't really do anything in that mode.
good job!
Thank you Johan!!! 🙏
Thank you.
Hi pal2tech - I know you can find any solution for settings, Do you know how to whiten teeth setting in fujifilm camera (Not in post). :) thanks for your secrets men!

THANK YOU!!!!!
OUCH!!! That's painful!!! I hear ya for sure...
@@pal2tech Ahh not hard, had a good laugh though XD
The offspring was near my home and got some later shoots of them. But somehow I always got the wrong lense with me. Since I wanted to take photos of the woodland with a wider lense.
How to take a long exposure photo in xt3
Hello, can you explain how to check xt 3 mileage or chatter count, thank you
Have a look at this site here for that: www.apotelyt.com/photo-camera/fujifilm-shutter-count
@@pal2tech thank you very much!
I'm sorry, I'm not sure on that one. Have you looked at the XT3 guide online? Maybe that would have some more info?
Awesome
Does the Xt3 have anything similar to sony's realtime overexposure zebra warning for stills?
The closest thing they have for still is called Live View Highlight Alert. Not quite the same thing. In movie mode of course, they have the zebra warning, but check out the hightlight alert for stills on XT3.
Thank you.
And subscribed. Love it
Thank you so much!! 🙏
Great videos....looking for a second camera to go with my XT3, torn between XT3 or XH1 i shoot street photography, corporate events,Weddings, and Travel. any help would be appreciated..Thank you
X-T3. I think that would be best choice based on video features, ergonomics, price, etc.
How about a Fuji XT 30 as a second camera
@@VIM97 Yep, it's a perfect 2nd camera for sure. Even shoots 4k video if you need some awesome b-roll.
pal2tech Thank you so much I really appreciate your input I think I’ll go for the XT 30
@@VIM97 Oh, that's so awesome!!!! Once you get it and get some shots, send me your IG or somewhere so I can see them!!! I know you'll get some great stuff with it!!!
Shoot without card? what a stupid feature to add to a camera. This feature needs removing via firmware. I had no idea this was a feature, imaging shooting someones wedding cards gets full and you have no idea till you get to transfer files. thanks for pointing this feature out.
LOL, exactly. Why on earth would they add that????
I love you man👨!
Boom, boom, boom and boom! :)
LOL!!!!!! :-)
why is "shoot without card" is an option? lol
it would make sense if we could shoot directly into an external drive. but we cannot.
shoot with out lens off when u cleaning the sensor )
well done i try to sale my xt3 because of that
Are you the guy from someone call Saul? 😊
Yes! 👍
I am a snobby elitist and never need advice on my gear. I got my XT3 today and the SD card lock is a sneaky one I appreciate that information. I never want to be on a shoot just to realize I'm F'ed lol
☕️👍
Thanks Abyh!!!!
I have a GoPro and I have bought this camera for more of a closeup(ish) kind of video shots, was really important for me to get a camera supporting 4K at 60fps, and the X-T3 serves that purpose perfectly !!! honestly, I never use the manual modes... the auto modes w the latest firmware works perfectly for me !!! face detection is off for me as the footage I take is mostly nature related..
Check this short video compilation that include few of my closeup shots w/ the X-T3: ua-cam.com/video/24RE9c8fGTM/v-deo.html
You are so handsome
