    Just purchased my XT3 yesterday. This video really helped me out a lot! Thanks.
    Got my camera used. Didnt want to go for the XT4 since i dont think i’ll need the newer features. Got it for $1400 CAD, it came with 3 batteries, 1 battery grip, L shaped bracket, grip mount, all chargers, all original manuals and packaging and a book on photography(gift from the seller.). What a deal!! i simply need to get lenses.

    Just switched from Canon to the all-glorious Fuji XT3 and I’ve never been happier! I’m looking into shooting weddings with it so this video couldn’t have arrived at a better time! Someone with a Canon 5DMark iii actually told me I should “go buy a full frame body instead if I want to shoot weddings” LOL. Anyway, I’m grateful for this video, thank you!

      Awesome! I'm glad you found this at the right time. Yeah shooting weddings with Fujifilm is totally legit. I've been doing it for about 3 years now with Fuji (5 in total) the "go buy a FF body if you're doing weddings is old school thinking. Good luck with weddings!

    Really lovely video, consider me subscribed. I would like to offer a suggestion, even though you're in "America", for photography purposes to consider switching your guides from feet to meters. The reason is twofold: first, a lot of portrait lens have a min focusing distance of 1m. So, if you can get used to knowing what 1m is, it becomes SUPER handy esp when shooting in fast, close-range events like receptions and parties. For example, if you're handling a camera that sucks with AF in super low light even though you're using a flash, you can set the manual focus distance to 1 or 1.5 meters and just shoot everything based on physical distance (this is an old school film photog's trick and it's much, must faster to work this way) couple this with a wide aperture like F5.6 or F8 will ensure that you will nail more shots than you'll miss with a nice wide depth of field. The other reason knowing 1m minimum is super handy outdoors; whenever you're manually focusing and doing street photography at a wider aperture like F8, it's much easier to extrapolate distances based on a factor of 10 (meters) than a factor of 12 (feet to a yard). For example, let's say you're photographing me across a one way street in NYC; is it easier for you to guess that is 22 feet or 7 meters? A yard is about the same as a meter but there are no yards on a lens... If you know the minimum distance of 1m (it's basically one big step forward or backward), you can pace out meters in steps without a ruler. Then you know a one lane street is 7 meters from sidewalk to sidewalk, a 2 lane street maybe 10 meters. Operating with smaller numbers and knowing 1, 3, 5-10 meters will give you so much more confidence about sniping in virtually any conditions. Think about it!

    I strongly suggest, that if you wish to extract the best out of your Fujifilm RAW images, use Capture One Pro. The differences between Lightroom and Capture One are flagrant. No wormy artifacts, much cleaner output, almost MF look and definitely on par with many FF systems. Of course, Nikon, Canon, etc, can use Lightroom with no problem. It is only Fujifilm that has problems in Lightroom. I know, I use two major systems, Nikon FF (4 bodies) and Fujifilm (5 bodies, 3 x X-T3's, X-H1 and X-T20).

    • @jbivphotography
      @jbivphotography  5 років тому

The same question applies to manual focus, when do you use this, and are you using back button focus? Any help is appreciated, thank you, Edd

    Hi John,
    Thanks so much for this video with your menu-settings of the X-T3!
    I'm a big fan of yours, and so i had to see what kind of setup you're using.
    I am also very curious about your other settings on the camera. For instance whether you set anything on Automatic, or are you 100% manual all the way always?
    And most importantly your focus settings. I never ever see you change your focal point or change the size of your focus field. How do you manage to take such incredibly sharp pictures then?
    I do a bit of model shooting as a hobby, and I'm a keen Fuji user (the X-T2 for now), but I'm constantly changing the focus point. Maybe I shouldn't be doing this?
    Thanks so much for any response you might have on this.
    Thank you and greetings from Belgium,
    Luc

  • @anorveaa
    @anorveaa 2 роки тому

    Hi John. How do you normally set your AF-C settings, to Focus or Release Priority?
    Regarding setting the AUTO ISO to a specific "highest" allowed ISO setting forget it, if the sensor detects that there is not enough light the camera will simply IGNORE your settings and will crank up ISO for you. Either that or it will choose a really low shutter speed and your photos are ruined. You have to be extremely careful when you set up AUTO ISO and you have to know what you're doing if you don't want really noisy and degraded looking images. And by the way most cameras do the same thing.

  • @jupiterfry2140
    @jupiterfry2140 5 років тому

    Hi John, I don't know if anybody else has said this so forgive me if they have, but you mentioned in your video how you don't change the colour space when shooting in Raw. In the video it was set to srgb. Maybe it was a mistake but you really should be shooting in Adobe colour space and converting afterwards to srgb once processed purely for web viewing. I'm sure you knew this and it is probably a mistake but I just couldn't help noticing it.

    • @jbivphotography
      @jbivphotography  5 років тому

      I’ve actually always heard that Adobe RGB isn’t much of a difference and since everything ends up sRGB anyways it just makes sense to stay in that space. Here are a couple of articles as well.

    Just bought an XT-3 and I'm very excited. I'm a huge RAW fan, having recently gotten used to editing them from my old Canon DSLR and realizing just how more versatile they are. Is there *any* advantage to using uncompressed RAW files, you said you don't lose info with compression?

    • @jbivphotography
      @jbivphotography  4 роки тому

      The only advantage I've seen in the uncompressed RAW is that more devices know what it is. For example, when importing on my iPad I don't see the photo previews at first until I import because it can't really view the compressed RAW photos. Other than that I haven't really seen anything else that's different.

      Since I’m a wedding photographer I tend to not really use face detection at all because there’s too many faces around while doing a wedding. However, when I’m doing just UA-cam content I’ll just use face detection. I feel like it’s just easier and quicker but honestly there’s no big reason. I haven’t really tried the eye detection too much.

    If someone sees this: change your color space to adobe rgb or the largest color space your camera can produce! Its better to work on a wide space and then change it in post! Look what color spaces your camera has, then search for what’s the largest one and go with! Especially if you work with prints, you HAVE to do this

    • @angopi98
      @angopi98 2 роки тому

      And if you get to choose 8 bit or 16 bit, go for the 16. Most cameras only make it through 12, but those 4 bits translates into millions if colors you can’t afford to lose

      I do. I'm a huge fan of the Godox v860ii. I actually talk about them in this video a little bit ua-cam.com/video/SotlvOKK2Co/v-deo.html. The nice thing about this flash as well is it talks to itself so you can use it as a trigger for other flashes as well. Typically I'll have 2 off-camera flashes and 2 on camera.

    • @jbivphotography
      @jbivphotography  4 роки тому +1

      The biggest thing with product photography since you're controlling all of the settings is you'll need to get out of the A setting. The camera is guessing a little too much when you're in A. If you set your camera up the way I have it you'll be able to control all of the settings and make them the way you want them to be rather than the camera selecting it itself.

    Love your work bro! Do you use only Lighroom for editing? People say Capture One is way better for Fuji RAW Files because it can handle the Fuji Sensor Pattern better than Lightroom can! Would appreciate if you could help me! Thank you! Keep up the great job man! And btw: I am thinking of switching from my X-H1 to the X-T2 or maybe the X-T3. You think the overall speed is worth the money spend on the X-T3?

    • @jbivphotography
      @jbivphotography  5 років тому

      Thanks a bunch. Currently, I'm only using Lightroom for editing but I've had my eyes on Capture One for a while now. My workflow is just so set in stone that as a wedding photographer it would be pretty huge to switch my editing system and slow myself down. For switching cameras I've neveer used the X-H1 so I'm not sure how it compares. But the X-T3 is deff the better choice out of the X-T2. The quality, and focusing are just THAT much better.

I tend to photograph kids running around mostly and moving the focus point around tends to be too slow for me...I would use zone but I’m afraid that with a shallow depth of field that it’ll focus on something in the background instead but I’ll give it a try! @@kristiejochim3170 When I'm unable to move the point around I do typically focus and recompose. i took a digital printing background so i know a bit about the importance of color.. and you WOULD WANT to change it to Adobe RGB it gives you more range when it comes to editing ..unless you just want to post photos on a website and not make them into prints then you can just keep to sRGB but its the same as like i will want to shoot jpeg ONLY for everything where instead u could have picked RAW +JPEG and still ahve the option to edit if you need to

    • @jbivphotography

      From what I've heard and looked into sRGB is just fine. You're not really gaining too much more with Adobe RGB. It's kind of an "old wives tale" that Adobe RGB gives better photos from my research.
