Instead of just wiping the shampoo off with a rag, I throughly wash the brush and go over everything with the wet brush. It helps get all the shampoo and dirt out, this is why washers have a rinse cycle. When you simply wipe away you're not completely getting the dirt out and stains can reappear once the hat is dry.
The hatshaper is discontinued, but you can also use a rolled up bath towel and stuff it into the hat to help maintain shape too. Plus, the towel will soak up extra moisture from the inside.
Yup after seeing this, I'm definitely picking one of those up. Got many fitted's that have seen better days, but won't throw away because of sentimental value - glad there is a way to salvage them!
Good video. I’ve been wearing fitted’s for 30 years and what I’ve learned is once your hat starts to smell from sweat, (and it will if you wear it enough) is it’s pretty much a wrap! So don’t where your favorite hat in the summer or just buy a new one!

i used a baloon for shaping... but you dont want to use a to big a ball or baloon because if you stretch it to much it wont sit in place... the elastane will brake

Use Balloons. I have been restoring hats for 25 years and found this method to be the best by far. You can get 30 balloons for $1. Make sure they blow up round and not light bulb shape.
I just cleaned brim from my Toronto blue jays hat (navy blue with the baby blue brim) with oxyclean spray a little water and a tooth brush and it look like brand new. But yea do not wet the brim too much.
4:00 Warm or cold water? Btw, my hats are made of cotton. or polyester. edit: nvm I would actually like that one of my hats shrinks a bit. It's one size fits all without a "belt" (or whatever you call it in English) at the back of the hat, like the one at 4:28.
Ok..my hat and cardboard brim is soaking wet with sweat. I'm looking for the way to clean the sweat out at this point. Soak it in plain water to dilute the sweat out? Should I add anything to the water like a non bleach detergent or shampoo? 🧢
I've hand washed 1 fitted hat a few years back. Shrink? I haven't washed anymore since because the sweat band stretched out. Too big now. I soaked the shiznit out of it. possibly the weight of the water I guess.
I put my snap back in the washer like a noob and oh boy the bill got warped, is there a way to clean it well enough so it doesn't smell? Without using a washing machine?
NEVER put a fitted cap into a washing machine. Always wash by hand. Washing machines can mangle them and ruin the brim (straight or curved) You don't want to soak the hat either, which a machine would do. I'd advise against it.
Woodz 45 check your tag. if its a wool hat or a wool blend then yes, use the reshaper. It will still shrink and lose structure, even if it still fits the hat wont look right. Made that mistake myself
Wouldn't do this with a light colored hat the soap always will leave discoloration if you don't take all the soap out which is impossible without getting the hat soaked
I tried this onj a hat of mine and, sadly, it didn't work. In fairness to you, the cap was stained with an ointment I used for my dandruff, not just sweat.

How do I clean the stitching without ruining it?
Use you can the same technique, just be super delicate with the toothbrush. You don't want to scrub as vigorously as with the rest of the hat.
