    Okay, okay, okay Nicole! I surrender! You've opened my eyes to the versatility of garter stitch! The no roll edges was new information to me despite how long I've been knitting. Thanks for another informative and entertaining video!

    I have taught new knitters with garments from Sally's The Knit Stitch. I've made four Einsteins. Rambling Rows is another great garter blanket. Thank you for reminding me of some wonderful knitting memories. 😊

    My first project was actually two garter stitch rectangles that I seamed (mattress stitch), leaving a thumb hole, to make fingerless mitts. It was so satisfying! Basically, dishcloths in different yarn and then seamed. But within three weeks, I was wearing a project I knit!
    Love Elizabeth Zimmerman's Baby Surprise Sweater and truly love the Sally Melville books! I made my daughter the fringed poncho that she wore for three or four years with so much joy!

    I'll have to check out that mosaic video...mosaic knitting might be my favourite. Also, I went right over to purchase the pattern for the shawl (Waiting for Rain?)
    I had some variegated DK yarn in red/grey/black....and I thought a garter pattern would really compliment the variegation beautifully...and it did! I knitted the Hyla. It's garter stitch with 4 chunky cables on the front. I modified the cuffs and bottom to be icord. Otherwise, i knit it to pattern. The underarms were a bit puzzling, but the designer was open to my questions. It resulted in a beautiful squishy comfy sweater. I think mine is the first one you see in the project pages, if you'd like to take a look 😊.

    I didn’t like garter in my beginning knitting adventure but I absolutely love it now. I am currently making the sweet shop blanket which uses scraps in garter stitch

    With your grey shawl at the end, wear it so that the middle is at the front like a bandana, then wrap the sides around your neck back to the front and hold them together in place with a brooch or a shawl pin. Personally i think its the best way with a crescent and it never falls off.

    With my brain's ability at this point in life, all I can really handle is garter stitch with an occasional knit below or yarn over, so I am a HUGE fan of the garter stitch. I can even doit without looking so I can read/watch a show while knitting. Brainless knitting is my kind of knitting👍😎I'm working on a corner to corner garter stitch baby blanket for my grandson who will be 2 next month. I'm using variegated yarn and it looks beautiful 😍

    I love garter stitch. You're right, the smoosh factor is wonderful! I've knit a lot of Martina Behm's shawl (shawlette) patterns partially because I love that they're mostly garter, and thus look good regardless of which side is showing.

    Thank you for this video. I have always liked the look of garter stitch for some reason, but I like looking for patterns that incorporate it and have some style to it as well. I fine it amazing what designers can do with some garter in a garment. Thank you for talking about Sally Melville and some of her designs. They sound spectacular, so I may have to see if I can find her book on the garter to add to my library as well.

    Hi Nicole, I just found your channel tonight and have watched Sequence and Marling and have both books by MDK. I've knit 17 ten stitch blankets but knit 25 stitches instead of 10. I've also knit All the Shades of Truth by Laura Aylor. I've knitted several items with The Cistella Cowl which I turned into wraps and blankets. I'm currently knitting blankets using The Afterglow Scarf pattern, knitting and purling strips then sewing them together with ribbon yarn. I'm ellymae53 on ravelry. Looking forward to watching your other videos.

    Twenty years ago I really hated garter. It just seemed so boring, and almost lazy. But, more recently, I have been changing my mind. I see SO MANY beautiful, squishy knits that use garter. So, thanks for this!

    • @Knicoleknits

      I’ll have to take a look to remind myself, but I think all I did was cast on fewer stitches and eliminate some of the short rows. When I get a chance, I’ll confirm that 😊

    I actually love garter stitch 😀. I find it really soothing. Think Aeria by Linnea Ornstein, or a c2c baby blanket with a section of mosaic, or Hue shift blanket. It’s wonderful isn’t it 😄

    I too love garter stitch, but I’m stumped how to work duplicate stitches on it. Maybe someone on YT has a tutorial …

    • @Knicoleknits
      @Knicoleknits  Місяць тому +1

      It would surprise me if you can’t find one. The key to duplicate stitch is following the path of the yarn underneath. If you can keep the “duplicate” yarn running on that path, you’re golden 😁
