I worked for the State of MO and 4 of those years were in the social services building. Trust me it's NOT the program it's some of the ignorant people who work there!!! I used to hear social workers gossip about the wrong things they did to people. In the program that I worked if recipients didn't receive their benefits we could give them $50 for food to cover them. A person came in one day with that problem and after my co-worker spoke to her as she was leaving I asked if everything was okay? She told me he gave her $5 and told her to buy a bag of potatoes. I said oh HELL no and went straight to my supervisor while he was trying to stop me. My supervisor called her into her office as well as him and told him to give her $50 he tried giving her $45 but my supervisor told him no give her $50 the extra $5 you already gave her is for her pain. Talking about that racist butt being pissed at me I didn't care!!
in my state, they REFUSE medical deductions for seniors and people with disabilities. I had a neighbor that paid for food and went without medical care she was a senior with a learning disability, by the time her cancer was diagnosed it was late stage 4 and she only had months to live. Another woman (senior with autism and her husband with a developmental disability) were also seemingly denied SNAP. She became very thin, luckily she got into senior housing where her rent is only 30% of her income and she can afford food now. They have consistently miscalculated and refuse to fix it unless you take them to court. legal aid is a joke, so people with disabilities often have to recourse. In my area all the workers are black or brown, the people I know abused by them are white (1 was also Jewish).

Also in TN they will say you didn’t have all your paperwork in as well. I promise you I had everything in and missed calls missed my benefits for 3 months. Not only that my benefits was stolen on June 1-2023 . When I reported made a police report and complained they told me that it was my fault and I gave my benefits card to someone. So yes ma’am this has happened to a lots of families plus the fraud with scamming benefits cards. But the interview and paperwork is such a longer process that they almost ask you when was the first day of your last menstrual cycle? We need a judge too here in Davidson county right now.

Here in Maryland we are going thru the same experience as well it’s honestly overwhelming. Mines just was cut mine because I didn’t turn in my job statement mind u the notice came on a Friday they wanted the form that Monday if not turned in I would lose my benefits. So now I hv to reapply after hv returning my recertification info n having my receipts to show. The dss here are just as bad if not worse. Thax for the insight hopefully they fix these problems.
