Tenchu Z was actually developed by K2, the same studio that developed Tenchu 3, and Fatal Shadows. Shadow Assassins was developed by Acquire Corp. , the developers of Tenchu 1, 2, and The Way of The Samurai series.
I hope a new tenchu comes.. if possible... To pc... And if possible... Make it have the best things found in most tenchu games... In other words... Level creator... Character creator... Multiplayer missions... Versus mode... Great story mode

Not afraid to admit that I let out a squeal of excitement after seeing what game was being covered in this episode. The tenchu series was my childhood! 100% every game in the series. This game has a special place in my heart.
itzJenesus I never had the chance to play tenchu 1 but I did play Wraith of heaven and it was a pretty stellar game. The extra mechanics and mission types they threw in made that game balls hard though.
I loved this game series as well, even when I was biting my tongue trying not to curse aloud when I slipped up repeatedly in spots, still loved every minute of it. =^.^=
3:55 "Yeah, yoo too, Solid Snake!" Metal Gear Solid came out only a few months after Tenchu: Stealth Assassins and had been in development for years. The two games, in addition to Thief: The Dark Project, marked 1998 as the birth year of proper (3D) stealth games.
Tenchu is definitely one of the most sentimental and memorable games I've ever played. My two cousins and I were playing it, sitting at my grandparents and waiting for my grandpa's body to give up and let him pass. I vividly remember just killing Echigoya when my aunt walked in and told us he passed. Sad day, but great game.
Great video as always mate! This was one of my fave games back the PS1 and for its time was so ground breaking to have such an open environment, able to tackle it however you see fit. I learned something new today with the hidden abilities, so thanks for opening my eyes to it. Looks like I need to wipe the dust of this forgotten gem! Cheers mate :D
The 3rd installment, Wrath of Heaven on the ps2 is a continuation of the first game and upgrades on the gameplay elements of the first and second games... And way better graphics and music
So.... are you hyped for Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice? I look forward to that episode here. I remembered when I played Tenchu back in the days. Didnt know how to save tho :D
That was the first of the PS2 era right? It would be nice to see him comparing them and then Tenchu Z. I just recently bought Z but haven't tried it yet. I've played most Tenchu's and enjoyed them all extensively, even the less beloved ones.
Tenchu Z is pretty good. But it is hampered by a Alot of change in how the stealth works, the Controls, and the fact that your Rikimaru is your Master and your Ninja is a Created Character that has a Pre-set weapon that CANNOT be changed or shifted to a new one...Which sucks ALOT!
Tenchu Z has the smoothest camera controls and that turns it into not a chore to play. It's amazing how often I find myself wrestling with the fucking camera even when playing Fatal Shadows which really fixed almost everything. I wish my 360 still worked.
Tenchu 1 used to piss my dad off lol, My favorite was always the 2nd game, and if you beat it all the way with both Rikimaru and Ayame you unlock Tatsumaru
Tenchu 2: Birth of the Stealth Assassins , Tenchu 3: Wrath of Heaven and Tenchu 4 Shadow Assassins are AMAZING ! spin off Tenchu Fatal shadows is cool too
I loved so much about this game. One of my top 10 PS1 era games. From the stealth game mechanics, to the awesome soundtrack, the silly dialogue (I still quote with my brother to this day) and the cool characters. Wish someone would revive this series. I was so proud of myself when I finally achieve grandmaster on every level in the game.
Tenchu and its sequel were go to titles for me and my crew. The second installment allowed you to build your own levels and map the walk patterns for guards. We would kill a whole weekend trying to build a level the others couldn't complete. Tenchu was the most underrated and unappreciated title for PS1. It's a motherfucking classic! 😎
Quite possibly my favorite franchise. I found out I had a knack for stealth games after playing Tenchu. I went on to play Metal Gear, Splinter Cell and all sorts of sniper games. After spending long periods of time waiting for the right moment to strike I went on to develop great self discipline and patience in real life. I guess it worked in the opposite way of how people who blame mass shootings on GTA believe.
This guy obviously has no appreciation for classic games he only appreciates it for what it was and not what it is the bad voice acting is why this game is so memorable and why it’s awesome
4:55 Sekiro foreshadowing. In case you are unaware, Sekiro started out supposed to be a Tenchu game but they then changed it so they can turn it into it's own IP as they had ideas that wouldn't fit in the tenchu world.
Holy crap, I use to spend whole weekends dicking about in the Map Maker for this game, making incredibly difficult platformers or gauntlets. So much fun! Wow the memories, I'd completely forgotten about this game...
I'm fucking Stoked to find out that that one random bloodborne 2 teaser that everyone thought was "blood-borne 2" was actually a teaser for the next Tenchu game by from software. Because the "Shadows die twice" reference was from what one of the bosses said in the Tenchu games.
Dude well you gotta play Souls. At least the 3rd one. They really are amazing and the 3rd has the most quality of life improvements to the game and amazing graphics and cool mechanics you can do in the craziest enemies. Dark Souls 1 is also great it's a classic really epic when you play it but yeah
Guaguadeath I was definitely going to buy Dark Souls 3 next but then I heard about the original remake and waited but now after seeing it kind of not meet expectations I'll go back and buy 3
I played through this game without stealth on hard mode and it wasn't a nightmare. It was fun! You might find my hack and slash full playthrough with both characters interesting. Great vid, btw.
This is my favorite game ever!! At the time it was amazing the music is wonderful ( even have the sound track CD) I love the voice acting, it's like a bad English dub of an old martial arts movie. So much fun!!!
Came here to over build my hype for the new Assassin’s Creed. If they go in the direction of Tenchu with their best work it could be amazing. Miss Tenchu it was old school fun.
I remember when I first saw this video, I was like: Ninja Dark Souls? I wonder what it'd be like. Only then to get a recommended video at the side that was basically a trailer for Sekiro. I know Sekiro isn't technically a sequel, but as far as spiritual successors go, it's about as solid as they come.
definitely had its flaws, but for the atmosphere and soundtrack, it remains one of the best games I've ever played, and I say that as a PS4 owner who's played most of the main AAA+ titles. Everything about it is pure nostalgia. Spent many many hours getting grand master on everything.
i loved this game even when i spent an hour of real time sitting in a tree watching that one guard that refused to stop looking my way. also wasn't there a third character the Dr as an unlock or am i thinking of the sequel? NVM the Dr is from Wrath of Heaven .....in a min why do i still have the discs for PS and PS2 games if i don't own the consoles anymore?
This game was legendary. For some reason I was actually able to beat the whole game with high ratings. It was no joke. Probably one of my favorite games from back in the day.
HOLY FUCK I played Tenchu as a kid in 98 and that level with the baby crying used to drive me nuts. 11 year old me searched every single nook and cranny of that level and 20 years later the ghost baby mystery is still at Large. I completely forgot about that until watching this video now and it was like a sledgehammer of creepy nostalgia.
Tenchu is one of those series' that defined my PS1/PS2 era, and I'm happy to see you give it the completionist treatment. I'd love to see you do Tenchu 2, since thats the one that ate up the most of my time. Loved fucking people up as Tatsumaru!
tenchu stealth assassin game is one of the most unforgettable game in history of playstation, it’s among the pioneers of epic game ever created in history, i bought this game when i was in grade school, and i still remember the feeling as a bad ass ninja. I’m looking forward to play it again in ps4... best stealth ninja game ever, story wise and interface wise.
Fond memories of skipping school to play this in the winter of 98! XD The sequel had the level designer, i loved that feature! Ehem... "Sombeee herrrrrllllpp!!!"
Tenchu is my all-time favorite PS1 game EVER! I'm really sad that the last decent one we got was Fatal Shadows. I'm REEEEEEEALLY hoping we get a new one, so long as it isn't Dark Souls. Luckily, Ghost of Tsushima looks pretty darn close, so I'ma get that for now.

Actually. Ninja would not wear black as it would actually stand out more often than not. They most likely wore a colour to match the lighting and the sky and still remain somewhat neutral. So a dark shade of blue. Wearing black is something that came with westernization.
Ninjas mostly wore civilian clothing, to blend in with the people they were around. They didnt gide in shadow like most people think. The only reason they would wear what we consider "camouflage" would be if they were not around other people.
Tenchu and Armored Core were my guilty pleasure game series on PS1. I didn´t know anyone else in my area who liked(or even knew about) Tenchu games. I was so obsessed I even imported the japanese re-release of the first game which had original japanese language track and got the expansion disc. Important piece of gaming history and playing this is mandatory for all gaming nerds. And that soundtrack! By gawd it´s amazing!
A lot of the games I used to play for ps1 was basically for the soundtrack and mainly dialogue if I remember correctly. Tench Has one of the better soundtracks. It’s in the same league as the last of us IMO. Story wise I’d go with legacy of kain. I can’t really think of a ps1 game that has mind blowing combat. BUT...ps1 days definitely had their fair share of iconic games and have brought ideas and core value of the games we all love to play today.
Steven Bills I had the first 2 growing up. The first game is hard as he'll. Be warned. I played the opening mission a lot of times since the later missions got so frustrating
My favorite game of all time next to sequel and king's field 2. I love the dub of tenchu because their accent are authentic. Love the music of the first game.
Wee bit ignorant going on about a game from the 90's having tech 'problems' what I remember of this game was great game play great combat system and fantastic atmosphere. For its day it was a top game. The next one on the ps2 however wasn't anywhere near as engaging as the ps1 classic game.
Technu Stealth Assassins was revolutionary for the stealth gameplay and grappling hook, and the music was some of my favorite of any game. This and Chrono Trigger have the best soundtracks of any 90s games in my opinion.
Maybe my fav game ever. I'm one of those who can't take the light show that they shoved in after he first one but yes I know for those who can the game was still in there. very good game. very good art. Just the brink for it's time.
Damn moving from Eastern to Central time is confusing. These videos used to signify the weekend being finally here and now its like oh wait I have a 2:30 class its not the weekend yet.
Thank you so much for this. I loved the first three games growing up, although I never got grandmaster rating. The second one is my favorite, as the controls feel extremely satisfying once you master them, and the backstory of all the characters was great to experience. I hope to see videos about both the second and third titles in the series some day.
Noriyuki Asakura, the composer of the game, also composed the soundtrack for Rurouni Kenshin (Samurai X) and imo it's one one of the best media soundtracks of all time. This guy deserves the title of GRANDMASTER.
Cool to know!

The graphics are actually gorgeous for a 3D PS1 game.
For an EARLY 3D PS1 game. It doesn't hold up to even mid PS1 era games. Example: Compare it with its sequel.
Stylistically I still like it. The lighting is really atmospheric.
Hard to believe :D But its true
Graphics of tenchu 1 was not good enough. But combination of orchestra music and dark anxious atmosphere made game great.

It's much better than 2 as gameplay aspects tho. 2 is very slow and hook sucks there

BUT...ps1 days definitely had their fair share of iconic games and have brought ideas and core value of the games we all love to play today.
Tenchu 3 was my shit. I will probably get into the previous 2 games later.
Next can you complete and review hollow knight?
Sakari Ollikainen And Cuphead too.
Hollow Knight still has more expansion DLC coming out.
It's probably gonna be Jak 2 check his psn account
I love this game so much! I played it so many times while growing up!
Wee bit ignorant going on about a game from the 90's having tech 'problems' what I remember of this game was great game play great combat system and fantastic atmosphere. For its day it was a top game. The next one on the ps2 however wasn't anywhere near as engaging as the ps1 classic game.
Indeed. It's also really disingenuous to pick fault with gameplay mechanics from the first game in a series.
I still remember the first time I watched my cousin playing tenchu, I couldn't believe how realistic the game looked
Truly some mind boggling effects
This game was amazing, and kinda creepy
Ooh I really hope he continues this series. I played what i think is the next title in the series and I love it. It improved a lot.
I always enjoyed more tenchu 2.
Technu Stealth Assassins was revolutionary for the stealth gameplay and grappling hook, and the music was some of my favorite of any game. This and Chrono Trigger have the best soundtracks of any 90s games in my opinion.
A new Tenchu game, even if it's by FromSoftware? I think you just might have gotten your wish, if the rumors about that new teaser are correct.
ArmoredGriffon that teaser was for a differenet game
se...ki...
One of my favorite franchised of all time
Maybe my fav game ever.
