Watched this anime when it first released and only remembered up to the fight with thorkell and bits and pieces of the Prince. This recap is a real time saver going into Season 2 but now I have to wonder if I really did finish the entirety of the first season when I watched it. No way would I forget an ending like that, haha
thank you. i watched vinland saga while it was airing and completely forgot everything, but this reminded me, now i can continue on with the season 2. also all that happened is so surprising, how can all that be just a prologue, i am so looking forward to what's coming next from this series!

Biggest L here is not showing thorkell spear throw a full tree trunk over a mile and completely murking one of askeladd’s men. It’s not story relevant, but cmon.
Thank you for an excellent recap. First, I watched a shorter recap video to save time, but it missed a lot of major plot lines. Now I can watch season 2 without having to watch s1 all over again. You are the true Scooby Dooby Douglas of reality, a true servant of mankind!
A great part about this series is most of What is depicted In year 1013 Actually did happen. Thorkell was a real person And according to the records he was actually that freaking tall. Apparently he even had a granddaughter who was also super jacked because she inherited his genetics. There was a prince named kanute. And Viking raiders usually paid by the french and sometimes by the Danes regularly invaded england And whales. It's pretty much a very fluffed up history. But Most of it's all true.
Happy to say I watched this show two times, both sub and dub. Vinland Saga season one is fresh in my mind, so I'm ready for season two. Monday's are going to be exciting.
I knew right away, Askelad would be a character with many layers. I knew Thorfinn wouldn't get the chance to kill him either. But even with all that I could see coming, the way the series executed it was still flawless and had me riveted the final handful of episides.. Vinland Saga is right up there with Attack on Titan and Demon Slayer
Bro maybe im just stupid but im still confused after this. Its so complicated. Are the vikings from Denmark or from Norway? And why was Thorkel fighting for England? And when did Ireland come into all of this 😭
Thorkell originally fought against the English as a Jomsviking commander but he changed sides because he thought that the English were too weak and that he would have more fun fighting against the viking invaders. 😄
They're pirates, mercenaries if you will. If not money, they just lust after combat. Its very obvious Thorkell only cares about endless battle, he couldn't care less who gives him orders. btw... Denmark was the foremost northern superpower at that point in history, controling almost the entirety of Great Britain, Norway, Sweden and the small islands around.
Man.. I love this show however Thorfinn became quite detestable towards the end. I understand the rage that drove him from the beginning but it soon lost its appeal and I started resenting his appearance on screen. He really needed some character development. The one-note rage thing quickly became tiresome.
Man is it just me or has S2 been highly disappointing. I truly hope I’m missing something and that 10 episodes of monotony and slow burn are building towards something deeply meaningful. I can’t help but notice small things like scene composition and and technical execution feel subpar compared to the first season. It comes across as having lower production value or a rushed development window.. I know COVID impacted S2, but I’d hoped the delays would give the studio time to execute properly. Really hoping things come together in the latter half of the season, because each week that hope is slowly getting crushed by another underwhelming episode. Nothing wrong with slower episodes if the writing and story building feels meaningful, but watching Thorfin and Einar attempt to build a farm for 10 straight episodes feels like something they could’ve accomplished in far fewer.
thank you for making this recap video, it really saved me from watching this show. i was getting iffy vibes from it, so im glad i didnt invest that much time into it
Thorkeil ruined season one for me everything was so on the level and realistic or at least mostly believable until his ass shows up throwing trees around.
