How LGBTQ+ flee Uganda's 'Anti-Homosexuality Act' | DW News

- Опубліковано 16 тра 2024
- A year ago, Uganda enacted one of the world's harshest anti-LGBTQ+ laws. It allows the death penalty for consensual same-sex relations - and left people vulnerable to abuse including torture, rape, and forced eviction. Some Ugandans have fled the country. Edith Kimani reports from neighboring Kenya that these refugees are struggling to survive on the other side of the border.

Don't forget that they don't only get punished for "same-sex acts", but also for only being gay. Literally, just EXISTING as a queer person is illegal...
That's horrible, guess they need to dress and act the part, then do the truth in the dark 😉
Shame on uganda and africa for this shame
Wow, even the Russians only went for activists and those they caught congregating in gay bars. Heck, I don't think they were even this strict in the Middle East. I've had gay chatmates that worked there and they we're fine as long as they don't like, date publicly. One chatmate complain his roommate keep bringing new guys over every week.

Precolonial Uganda literally had a queer king. King Mwanga II of Buganda was well known to be bisexual. But Africans today will talk about "tradition"... Christianity and Islam are not our original African traditions. This hatred and persecution of sexual minorities is something that was imported from the West during colonial times, and today, we have become so ignorant of our true history, that we call these imposed import religions and their associated bigotry, "tradition"... There are nations in this world exploring space, furthering the boundaries of science and technology, advancing medical science to cure disease etc, and here on the African continent, we are persecuting people for who they are attracted to, for who they fall in love with, something they can't even change about themselves, all the while, we can't even maintain a stable electrical grid, or build a proper road network, or even simply develop functioning sewage systems... Death penalty is for those that commit acts of sexual assault on kids or those who groom kids to perform those acts. Why should they distribute LGBT literature in schools especially to the minors?
