bottom plates have isopropyl alcohol, glycerine, printer ink and clear mineral oil. Top plates have coloured oil and a complementary water colour. Adding vinegar and alcohol on the top plate gives the turbulence that you see occasionally. I am using two sets of plates as described, and assigning colours to each layer so they will overlap to produce secondary colours, and further overlap in the computer when I combine video feeds from both plates. I reduce the light levels where the hotspots in both layers overlap, but otherwise no digital manipulation. The colours all come from real world dyes and inks.
