I agree that this album didn't live up to what everyone was expecting. However, I feel the track Dangerous off the album was crazy. I am just glad Q is doing okay after Mac's passing. There are few exceptions as to why I'd ever be okay with an album not living up to my expectations, but death of (basically) family is one of those. Personally, I think he is still heavily affected by the death of a very close friend, but doing his best to push through. I still got faith in him. RIP Young Mustache
I'm very happy about your honesty in this video. To me, this is his least work and, what y'all complied, he sounds like everybody else. After listening it four times I realize that this album is unbalanced concerns of flow. He didn't use the creativity like in Blank Face LP. His performance there was monstrous. To Ken, I understand your acceptance but i"m with the rest of them: It was a let down, even though it didn't surprise me. I wish that y'all did your part in turns because some songs didn't being mentioned like Dangerous en Lies, especially Dangerous. Y'all opinion about Kid Cudi would've been very interesting. But some of your favorite tracks, I was like.... How SWAY. Songs like Gang Gang, 5200, Drunk en Floating are very mediocre for Q's doing IMO. Numb Numb Juice, Chopstix, Tales, Crash and Attention are mine. Again, thanks for your honesty and I looking forward to the next DEHH review. Peace from the Netherlands
Q in an interview (I believe, Breakfast Club) illustrated he didn't want "depressing music" and rearranged this album a couple of times. My opinion, he could still be in grief over Mack & Nipsey. Depicting the energy of the album is unique, Q appears to want to be positive on all accounts and have no negative energy (which anger/passion can be confused for) and may have scrapped his original idea/s of the album.
Q already gave me one of my favorite lyrical albums of the decade with Blank Face. This new record has some gems on it with Gang Gang and a couple others. Overall I don't mind it but I can see why it disappointed some people. It didn't feel as experimental which is what I prefer with more talented artists.
You're right Myke, Q said himself he kept making albums over and over like maybe 3 or 4 before coming to CrasH Talk. He just kept moving songs over to the next kinda of taking all the shit he made and making it into the project he wanted to make. Shit kept happening to him personally that made him keep putting it off until he felt comfortable.
Well said guys. As a die hard Q fan I felt underwhelmed as well. The crash talk take 1, crash talk take 2 references I think are bc apparently he had 2 other finished albums that he trashed before this 3rd one. Hopefully he’ll release the others!! Also I was soo sad he had no TDE features for us! Wtf! He went mainstream on this. Still gonna be in rotation but want more music from em soon hahah
its interesting how the last T.D.E albums have gone the commercial route, Damn, Redemption and then this, waiting on Soulo and Zay to hit us with some other shit
Thank y’all for speaking the truth considering you’re under a microscope with Top most likely watching this review. It was an average album. It’s tough to admit it but TDE is on crutches and I hope they bounce back. The talent is undeniable.
Liquid Bacon it’s a gift & a curse. He’s now stepped into the space where fans will compare him to his previous work. While the album is good, after coming off such a strong album in blankface Crash Talk just missed the mark. But still a good album just not to the standard that we now hold him. This is why it’s also disappointing.
Yeah crash talk has really grown on me the past week or so. It's not amazing but that's ok. Every piece of work is not going to be a classic regardless of whose making it. Blank face for me is a near perfect album, Crash talk isnt in that realm but it's a welcome addition.
He definitely played it too safe imo and the production doesn’t really do him many favors. It’s like he wanted to make a more commercial album except the actual songs sound dated at this point. “Following the trend” is a great description for what seems like his mindset for this one. By no means a bad project but I’m more likely to go back to pretty much any of his other albums
This isn't my fav album from Q, but at the same time, its been less than two weeks since it dropped soooooo I can't tell you right now if this is my favourite project from Q yet. I do get summer vibes from this tho. I heard he scrapped several potential projects before this, and one was supposedly more introspective in nature, I would kill to hear what that was about. I like to apprentice what an artist wants to put out as their final work. I think it's still Q at the end of the day, but a more "happy" and positive side of him. So I ain't mad, I'll be bumpin it.
If people listen to this album with the knowledge that Blank Face is a masterpiece of an album and that it's going to be hard to top, it becomes such a better listen, this album was a really good listen imo!
I loved it personally but everything u said about him kind of holding back with delivery makes a lot of sense. U guys have very clear heads and are able to tell when something is of quality but either not for you or just dissapointing compared to other shit.
If you pay attention to his interviews. He's in a better place mentally, it wasn't that he was playing it safe, he's just not the grimey dark Q from before anymore which is actually a good thing
In an interview, q said he scrapped 3 versions of the album. So I understood the "crash talk take 1, take 2 etc..." so I think the album is a mix of the 3 versions
This was the third album, had scrapped 2 before; first 2 he said were trash and on the third iteration, Kendrick and Jay Rock stopped him due to it still not being up to par with prior releases. Q said he was in a bad place from going to studio to home all the time, whilst smoking weed. So took some time off, including going golfing - hence the line on CrasH - to gain perspective and complete the album.
Chrissan Flume’s mixtape last year made money. Pressed and sold on Vinyl multiple times. Drake’s IYRT... also made big bank. What are you talking about?
This album should of been a mixtape in my opinion. And then he should've dropped the album his fans wanted afterwards. But I liked it, it was fun and enjoyable but nothing amazing.
*Crash Talk to me is Schoolboy Q's 4 Your Eyes Only in my opinion. I'm going to go back to some of these tracks because they definitely are fire to me in terms of beats and how Q is rapping. His next album is going to definitely be incredible just watch!*
In his interviews, he states that this album is what he wanted to make not what the fans necessarily wanted. Sounds like the last 2 albums were for a certain demographic but it hasnt brought him the success to match the critical acclaim of like Blankface so he made this to cater to his tour crowd. So I'm guessing he made this with intentions to perform the album on a tour. Personally I like the album it rides, I don't necessarily think it's his best but I feel like it's a worthy addition to his catalog.
I didn’t even like Numb Numb Juice, so I didn’t come in expecting much, but after 2 listens I only really like one song. And that one song I only give like a 7-7.5/10
I can respect the album because it is all about him fucking up (last verse on Tales), scrapping the album every few songs (CrasH Talk take 1/2/3), his friends dying from things and him trying to reach them(Dangerous/Floating/Die Wit Em), and finally him realizing he IS Schoolboy Q and accomplished so much of his bucketlist with Attention. This album was clearly therapy for him.
Considering the recent interviews in which Schoolboy Q has spoken on his issues with depression and anxiety, his views on how good Blank Face was as to how much it sold, and dealing with life in general... do you guys think his past mental state had a big influence on this album? I overall liked the album as well but did have some of the same feelings towards it that the cast had.
He was missing that bite we normally hear from him. I enjoyed about half the album, but the other half just feels generic. Decent album, but disappointed for how long the wait was.
Listen to the album in three parts; CrasH talk take 1: “gang gang” - “numb numb juice”. CrasH Talk take 2: “drunk” - “dangerous”. CrasH Talk take 3: “die with em” - “attention”
The cover says it all. The album is very somber and personal. I think this album might click for at least one of yall at a later time. Schoolboy can paint insane pictures. I listen to this shit everyday twice a day. This album is gonna put him on another level. Guaranteed
This Album Was Extremely Disappointing....We all Were Expecting Album Of The Year Quality & TDE typically Delivers....The Focus Was Definitely Off On This Album Smfh 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
Thats the thing! His focus isnt off. According to him this the most clear headed and focused he's been. I honestly think he tryna get back on the radio. We could say on Blank Face that the studio made him do Overtime. But not this one, theres 4 to 5 radio songs on this ish.
I totally understand where you guys are coming from and I felt the same way until I saw his interview with Charlemagne... then I understood why Q took this route. Now I have a greater appreciation for the album
This is a little bit of a weird topic probably but can you guys discuss whether Xzibit is underrated and if he can actually be valued as a hip-hop great
muti bacon ya I agree that he’s a great, I just somewhat feel like many people don’t even consider his rap career as most overshadow it with memes and his Pimp My Ride acting
I agree Ken is right here imo. The album grows own you. Tales, crash, 5200, attention, black folk, gang gang are all stand outs to me. I would rate it a 7/10 which isn't bad at all.
ScHool Boy Q made this album for touring and so he could perform it live. He said that he didn't want to make another sad album. So, based on that explanation... I like it.
Tavis Snell it’s weird because he said he didn’t like Blank Face but 95% of fans and critics did. I didn’t see one bad review on it lol he dropped the ball fr on this album
if anyone watched the breakfast club interview he was on. he clearly states that he was in a different place in life and he wanted to do something different with this album.
great review, I think you all skipped over an important aspect of this album tho. scHoolboy is a different person than he was when he made his previous albums. he's sober and separate from the vices that made him the aggressive rapper he was. this is not to say he can't still rap in an aggressive manner but when life circumstances change that much its only natural for his art to change with him
I have this album a couple listens and I actually enjoy most of the album it’s actually a really nice mix of different types of beats and mixes of type of rap styles I actually enjoy it but I go back to blank face when I want some crazy Gangsta shit
my biggest question to anybody who sees this is,was anybody putting expectations on this album before it came out? because im reading alot of comments and that's what it sounds like. when you do that especially with an artist who takes their time putting projects out your going to be disappointed. I know it's going to be hard but practice not expecting things.

Water goes hard.
Justlooking it was ok. It was different for him, and that ok. Plus, I’m not a fan of Lil Baby.
Rohnit it was ok to me. 21 sounded better on the track than Schoolboy.
Broccoli? You mean Collard Greens.
So much for being better than Kdot lol
Not even close lol
Todd Williams blank face still the best tde project
@Miguel Hernandez DAMN. slander will not be tolerated
Who calls him better than Kdot? Even Q himself says no one in the industry is at Kendrick's level.
let alone Ab-Soul lool
Idk I feel like this album had a lot of great tracks.. Numb Numb Juice, 5200, Floating, Dangerous, Die Wit Em, Water, Attention.
The album was just a big MEH overall. I loved Dangerous though.
And they all ended up doing it on there 3rd album.
Thank y’all for speaking the truth considering you’re under a microscope with Top most likely watching this review. It was an average album. It’s tough to admit it but TDE is on crutches and I hope they bounce back. The talent is undeniable.
Am I the only one that enjoyed this album? (Blankface was better but still...) This album had some nice tracks.
I agree blankface was better and I can sort of see how some people didn’t like this album but it’s definitely not trash
It aint trash but its forgettable. Aint came back to this album besides like 3 tracks
Album was good.. I enjoy it a lot.. Loads of different vibes
Yeah crash talk has really grown on me the past week or so. It's not amazing but that's ok. Every piece of work is not going to be a classic regardless of whose making it. Blank face for me is a near perfect album, Crash talk isnt in that realm but it's a welcome addition.
I'm glad i'm not the only person that felt this way about the album, felt like i was out of touch or missing the "sounds" of the album
I think you guys were bang on the money. Ya basically put into words how I felt about it
I loved it personally but everything u said about him kind of holding back with delivery makes a lot of sense.
Yall should go back to this album tbh, its grown on me so damn much
In an interview, q said he scrapped 3 versions of the album.
Doesn't change that it's not good
@@christopherjohnson577 I agree that it's very underwhelming in comparison to what we've had from Q before, but I still found some enjoyable factors
@@isaacroberts9973 I got 3 good tracks and the rest are listenable besides chopstix I deleted that
I'm with Ken, this album grew on me and I enjoy it. It's not Blank Face but there's really not a bad song on it and it's a good listen
This album was disappointing af. Most disappointed I’ve been in a whileee.
Fr bruh. Idk how you go from blank face to this
@@HXXDIEBOY maybe this should've been a mixtape. I don't know why rappers don't like to release mixtapes anymore
@@jordan12118 or an EP with only the dope songs
@@jordan12118 Mixtapes make no money
Chrissan Flume’s mixtape last year made money. Pressed and sold on Vinyl multiple times. Drake’s IYRT... also made big bank. What are you talking about?
This album should of been a mixtape in my opinion. And then he should've dropped the album his fans wanted afterwards. But I liked it, it was fun and enjoyable but nothing amazing.
KNWLDGE his label wouldn’t let him do that after they invested ton of money on this album, mixtapes don’t make money.
@@davidawonaike1188 True good point.
*Crash Talk to me is Schoolboy Q's 4 Your Eyes Only in my opinion. I'm going to go back to some of these tracks because they definitely are fire to me in terms of beats and how Q is rapping. His next album is going to definitely be incredible just watch!*
where's the guns by quelle chris review?
Amangiechsin Now there’s a great album.
Myke C Town should at least Review it or mention in his best of so far
In his interviews, he states that this album is what he wanted to make not what the fans necessarily wanted. Sounds like the last 2 albums were for a certain demographic but it hasnt brought him the success to match the critical acclaim of like Blankface so he made this to cater to his tour crowd. So I'm guessing he made this with intentions to perform the album on a tour. Personally I like the album it rides, I don't necessarily think it's his best but I feel like it's a worthy addition to his catalog.
Watch the interview he did with Big Boy's Neighborhood and you'll get a better idea of what he was going for as far as direction of the album
I didn’t even like Numb Numb Juice, so I didn’t come in expecting much, but after 2 listens I only really like one song. And that one song I only give like a 7-7.5/10
What song?
Jimmy Neutron I believe it was Crash?? The song where he was rapping about his daughter
@@kinnyboy good that's my favorite
I agree eith i bruh only one song
I can respect the album because it is all about him fucking up (last verse on Tales), scrapping the album every few songs (CrasH Talk take 1/2/3), his friends dying from things and him trying to reach them(Dangerous/Floating/Die Wit Em), and finally him realizing he IS Schoolboy Q and accomplished so much of his bucketlist with Attention. This album was clearly therapy for him.
19:37 When your teacher chooses the one student that didn't have his hand raised to answer the question.
2019 has been a reallly slow year for Hip Hop so far. 2018 had a lot of GREAT projects, but nothing has wowed me this year from anybody.
Chopstix is one of the worst tracks of the year
L the hook wavy af
Saying chopsticks 1000 times is wack af
Travis ruined it
The cover says it all.
This is a little bit of a weird topic probably but can you guys discuss whether Xzibit is underrated and if he can actually be valued as a hip-hop great
Tieflingamer he’s a hip hop great without a doubt in my opinion. Definitely underrated to me.
He is great for sure.
muti bacon ya I agree that he’s a great, I just somewhat feel like many people don’t even consider his rap career as most overshadow it with memes and his Pimp My Ride acting
I liatenedd to Crash Talk and loved it.. So i just KNEW DEHH would not like it.. Every single time this happens 😂😂
6/10 album for me. I pre ordered it sadly
that's why I don't do preorders
@@lou_gubrious I feel you, just I felt this would be fire but it wasn't it was more warm lol
I agree Ken is right here imo. The album grows own you. Tales, crash, 5200, attention, black folk, gang gang are all stand outs to me. I would rate it a 7/10 which isn't bad at all.
I'm with Ken on this one. Overall CrasH Talk grew on me after 2 listens. I enjoyed this album. 7.5/10
Nobody gonna bring up how fire 5200 is??? Jesus Christ. The rest of this you can keep but that drop is insane.
5:15
“AND IT STILL MADE MY TOP 10!”
great review, I think you all skipped over an important aspect of this album tho. scHoolboy is a different person than he was when he made his previous albums. he's sober and separate from the vices that made him the aggressive rapper he was. this is not to say he can't still rap in an aggressive manner but when life circumstances change that much its only natural for his art to change with him
I have this album a couple listens and I actually enjoy most of the album it’s actually a really nice mix of different types of beats and mixes of type of rap styles I actually enjoy it but I go back to blank face when I want some crazy Gangsta shit
my biggest question to anybody who sees this is,was anybody putting expectations on this album before it came out? because im reading alot of comments and that's what it sounds like. when you do that especially with an artist who takes their time putting projects out your going to be disappointed. I know it's going to be hard but practice not expecting things.
