You giving me permission is what helped me get started and have success with decluttering. Thank you!
It is helpful to see you working on your neglected zones because it shows that anything can get out of control and minimizing those things is a day to day decision and not a “makeover” that stays perfect forever with no effort.
I can’t believe there’s still any unorganised corner left in Dawn’s house by this time! Makes me feel better and more normal, thanks Dawn❤
Right? 😂Just to prove we're all a work in process. Thank you Dawn for all you do❤
Yes, it makes me feel little better! I don't organise and clean my home as my job - I work outside the house and I have a small toddler, so no wonder my house is a total mess.
My epiphany moment was realizing our "storage room" was big enough to be used for something better! I couldn't believe we'd dedicated that square footage to storing junk. So we got rid of 95% and now my husband has a 3D printing studio. 🤩
Brilliant!
@@cheryllovestoread 😊😊😊
That is so awesome!!! We have a large walk-in closet that came with cubbies (ugh-I am on the shorter side and can't even reach the top one without a 3-step ladder) so we are going to use that extra space and install a washer/dryer combo.
@@staceylovespaper great idea!!!
Love this that's my garage, I'm going to purge like a mother this weekend. It makes no sense that we are paying to store rubbish.
Corbin has an eye for space and construction and he's got such a good demeanor! So sweet and helpful. His work ethic is incredible. He's like lets do this! He really was encouraging to you!
He gets that construction muscle from his dad.
Came here to say this!
I laughed out loud when he said, boxes inside of boxes inside of boxes…hahaha what an amazing helper he is!
Corbin is very decisive too! He was a wonderful helper!
We all need Corbin 😄😄😄
Dawn, put that piece of wall paper you want to keep in one of the frames you are storing. Hang it on the wall in the closet. Presto! You now have a use for 2 things and a bit of decor to make you smile when you go into the closet.
I was thinking the same thing!
Great idea!!
You have helped so many people get a handle on their clutter in such a kind, gentle and non judgemental way. Thankyou for being so relatable and thankyou for your encouragement. PS) Corbin is an amazing young man!!!
Thank you so much, this means more than you know!!!
I love when Corbin says “I remember that book” and then puts it in trash 😂 some books are like that!
Yes! He didn't need to keep physical item to remember/keep the memories. Good job!
When I have no bandwidth for an item and have to donate it rather than sell it because it’s actually worth something…I feel good because I think I’m going to be the reason someone goes to the second hand store and finds an amazing score!! We’ve all had that one awesome find and it feels so good… I’m happy to give that moment to someone else🥰
Thank you for this! I hadn’t thought of this before. This is
super helpful to keep in mind.
Corbin is such a great helper and you can tell he has learned so much from you! 🎉
He’s awesome. He’ll be doing this professionally for others before log!
His wife, someday, will appreciate his care of the house too.
Corbin is the best body double there is. I'd love his help and encouragement.
And don’t forget that Tom is teaching him SO much of the ‘guy’ stuff too! What great parents!! 🥰
Having just been diagnosed with ADHD at age 64, I realize that even though I have trouble keeping things organized, clutter makes me more anxious and less able to focus on what I need to accomplish. I cleaned out under my sink while you cleaned your closet and just tossed a bag of stuff that was part of my fantasy self. Thank you for the encouragement. I may be an older empty nester and not that busy, but the need for inventory reduction remains the same!
I am 73 with ADHD and find that I need to accommodate for the way my brain works. Otherwise the anxiety and guilt get me and I come to a complete stop. I recently found a couple of videos on UA-cam about organizing the home for the ADHD brain. If I could remember exactly where they were I’d link them but, we’ll, you know.
Diagnosed last year at 29, and I absolutely think my mother, who's around your age, has undiagnosed ADHD. She introduced me to Dawn's channel 😂 Yes, let us know if you remember the video that helped you! Have a great weekend ❤
@@suek7086❤
Look for Dana K. White.
Denice, you wrote my own situation, except that I'm five years older. For me, paper clutter is the worst. Ever since Medicare eligibility at 65, it's hard to stay on top of it.
Love you allowing your son to make decisions through this process. You’re training him to adult someday!
My epiphany was remembering that I have a storage unit- its called the “store” - I can actually keep all my things there for free!😁
Me too ! My husband wants to have 2 back ups of each item- I say “They’re at the store !”
Brilliant! 🤭👍
Yes! I have an amount that I can get rid of something if it can be replaced for that amount. 25 years ago it was $20. Now it’s $50! 😂
However, I have found myself sticking up on things since stores don’t carry the things I like, anymore.
Strangely I have found that gift bags make great storage containers. And, they’re free! They’re sturdy, easy access, and have handles to carry. Especially good for Xmas decor.
And now i use delivery 99.9% of the time, so having more things on hand for convenience doesn’t make sense. I try to have 1 extra of things like ketchup, mustard, horseradish, mayonnaise…coffee, but I don’t have duplicates of soup, or many other items because i can purchase every week. My freezer actually has room because I make myself use up the food before i buy again. That makes for less waste because things aren’t lost in the freezer and then too old to eat.
I actually love seeing the decision making process. I find it helpful to see how others work through things as it helps me to work through things better.
Yeah it helps to see that even people who have been doing this for years have to take time to think about these things and talk through decisions. I don’t feel like I have to be able to do it instantly etc.
This is how I prefer Dawn and family. Unscripted and *real*. Very relatable having 3 littles myself. The random garbage that accumulates everywhere 😅. Also loved Corbin’s honesty: (with spray bottle) “we used to spray Adeline when she’d yell at us” 😂😂😂
Yup this is much better to me than the BHG style videos. Loved this.
@@ohmystarnes8199BHG? Belgian Hand Group? 🤭
I had such a hard time trying to find an appropriate way to "dispose" of my wedding dress. I did not want it ending up sweeping the floor of Goodwill, but I also have no need to keep it. I have a great marriage and am not sentimental about my dress. I was SO happy to find something like Angel Gowns right in my neighborhood. I feel SO blessed that my beautiful dress was transformed to help a grieving family in that very small way.
I am someone who received a gown 17 years ago. These people who sew the gowns and also the nurses who lovingly choose them and dress our babies are such a blessing. Nothing in the store would have fit him.
@@HomesteadingChicks May you be healed from what must have been very traumatic. I'm sorry for your loss.
So sweet that Corbin decided to keep the game for when his cousins come over! Such a great helper.😊
I loved that too! And that Dawn allowed it. :)
Such a sweet little fellow helping with the entire project. He's amazing at the assembly! He could honestly probably hire himself out to family and friends. You must be a proud mama. 🙂
I love seeing how readily Corbin donates stuff.
Flylady says “you can’t organize clutter - you have to get rid of it”. Every time I declutter, I hear her voice. Your wise advice - you can get it done in just a few minutes - is helping me purge and pack my home of 32 years as I prepare to move out of state. Thanks for all you do and all you share.❤
'How much can I manage right now?'!! 'We have permission to let go of good stuff.' 'We have decisions that we can make.'
My take away from tge first 30 mins... Thanks Dawn and Corbyn for all your openess and honesty of your thought processes.
I get so hung up on not wasting Anything - i hate seeing things go into the bin..then today realised that my house is becoming 'the bin!' 🎉🤗✨️💕
I ❤ Corbin's running commentary!
He's definitely a minimalist 🥰
Hey Dawn! I've never commented on your channel before because I wasn't sure that I had anything of value to add. I love the way you are living a minimal lifestyle, and you have encouraged me in my decluttering/minimalizing endeavors. I just thought of something as I watched you clean out the closet in the boys' room. I once saw in a magazine that someone drew with a sharpie marker on their plywood floor to make it look like wood planks and nails. They lightly stained and did a polyurethane on it and it was a beautiful fake wood plank floor. Maybe that would be a fun project for you and the boys to do in that closet! I truly love your helpful comments to your viewers. I subscribed a long time ago. You are a blessing! God bless you!
I'm kinda glad to know you have a Monica closet too 😁
Thanks for all you do ❤️
I love how you include your son to help. It allows him to feel more confident in his abilities and most likely he feels good about his accomplishment with Mom. You are building the future 'can do' guy. :)
I'm so thankful you still come across messes like this, as an aspiring minimalist I get surprised by spots like this in my house and tackle them as quick as I can, you help keep me motivated. Thank you! And thanks for being real.
Dawn, I have to say that Corbin’s problems solving is amazing! Many adults can’t do that. ☺️
I am one that likes to see the process you go through in decluttering.....I love the comment Corbin made "I remember this book" as he puts it in the trash!!! Love it!
Yeah that was so great! Way to go Corbin!!
I like your thinking: "I don't have the capacity or bandwidth right now to try and post this on Marketplace". You are being honest with yourself. Very helpful and freeing. Good advice.
You have helped us to get rid of 85% of our stuff and to live a minimalist lifestyle. The best thing we have done as a family. We live in the UK 🇬🇧
😊love your videos 🩷🩷🩷
Isn't it astonishing how much impact Dawn has on people all over the world? I'm in Germany and love her advice so much ❤️
@@Sabrina-gi9zwYes, the impact someone can have is amazing 😊❤
All of your children are precious and adorable….however, in this video…..Corbin was a STAR. You are giving him an opportunity to feed his inner talent and desire to live clutter free and organized. Good for you for doing that.
I'm relieved to know you had a "Monica closet", lol! It makes me feel better about my hidden stashes and gives me hope that I can eliminate them. I think keeping your storage areas clean, painted a nice color, and having coordinated, useful storage "invites" and "inspires" you to use the space.
I think what I like most about this vid is that not a lot of money was spent. We can all do super, pretty and organised when there's an unlimited budget, but most of us don't have that.
Great job on the closet. You should be proud of your helpers! Keep telling them how much help they are....they will never forget your words of praise!
I really loved this video. Seeing you work through a tough space, push through when you were wanting to quit, and then how happy it made you and the kids when it was done-that was gold. I’ve always loved how you can make us feel that we are not alone in our clutter struggles, and how we can do these things quickly and on budget.
I haven’t watched all the video yet but I’ve got to 31:42 and I just want to say that Corbin is absolutely amazing. What an awesome young man! His eye for space, his willingness to help , his strength and intelligence. I bet you are very proud of him ( and all your kids)
He is a kid raised right. ❤
My epiphany with help from you has been ‘less inventory’ going through my mind. You are an inspiration!
Thank you so much for this long video! Organization and decluttering is my safe space when big emotions are happening. Can’t express how much I needed this today! Bless you ❤
Oh my goodness. Same! Been living with my inalws for 2 years trying to find a house. Watching these videos helps to keep me sane. I miss having my own space to work on and declutter, but I know it will happen someday.
Wow me too! I thought it was just me. It somehow helps.
Oh my goodness. Corbin was such a huge helper. He is so smart and kindhearted.
To keep it organized you purge, organize, then put a pad lock on the door so nobody can get in to mess it up. Ever! 😂 AND, I am a better person because of your videos! Super helpful. Thanks!
😂 this suggestion is gold
Lol, love this!!! And thank you!!!!!
I have 4 under 5 and this is what I have to do to all the bedrooms, and they have to ask to get in! LOL It works.....for a few days at least hahah.
Love it! What a blessing to have those wonderful kids! I totally get it!@@kf9058
Thank you for sharing in detail how you tackled that space. It was nice to hear your rationale for your decisions. I could feel through the camera how much better it feels. And please tell Corbin that he's a star at helping. 🌟
I like storing games vertically like books in the cubes. Makes it easy to grab one out without messing up the whole stack.
Thank you so much for the longer content. I love seeing real clutter and hearing your thought processes on what to keep and what to get rid of. I have been tackling my tougher areas - craft supplies and fabric. I see potential in it all but have listened to you talk about inventory and seasons of life so much that I can start to let them go. If you keep only what you love and will realistically use, it makes your hobby a joy. My excess can bless someone else and not be a burden to me anymore.
Good afternoon - one of the things I would emphasize that you said was to not feel bad if you can't donate and rehome and and , that just moves your stuff from one place to another pile. Once we as a family got past that, things in our home became easier to minimalize! In turn it has also made us very mindful of what we are brining in and it has cut down our 'shopping' significantly. Great video, I love that Corbin was helping. Such a great life skill and fun one on one time. Edit to add, while listening/watching took out a black trash bag of stuff out of the laundry/ storage space.
Wow! What an awesome transformation! It looks sooooooo much better & I'm sure it FEELS even better! Corbin is such a trooper! He's always up for the task! What a true blessing he is! ❤️
My Hubby & I seem to work best under pressure. We had already decluttered our kitchen, but it had gotten out of hand, so we had someone coming over, so we got it reorganized. Then we found out some family was coming from out of state & that made us work on the main part of the house. Bedroom, office & sewing / craft room will come next. Thank you for your motivation. I just love Corbin. He's very smart for his age. Y'all are very wise to teach your kids at an early age to work. 😊
Deadlines can be super motivating!
Sewing/craft room? My sewing room looks like a bomb site right now. My adult daughter was helping me with it when I began having TIA symptoms. I ended up in the hospital having a blood clot removed from my carotid artery, just in time. Then I got an infection and had to have surgery to clean out the site. I had just regained most of my strength when I fell on concrete and ended up with a deep bone bruise. More weakness from having to be off that leg. I cannot make it up our stairs to my room to work so in the meantime I have just been having fabric hauled up there but it doesn’t get put away. Perhaps one day. It bothers me to think of it being in such horrible shape and not being able to sew until it is under control.
@suek7086 Sue, Ouch! That sounds like an awful ordeal. Glad you're on the mend. You are the most important thing right now, that room can wait. I was going to do my room last yr, but I was bedridden for 4 months & then had back surgery. Yikes! I'm hoping I can get to it after we get our homemade Christmas cards done & mailed out, which should be in 2 wks. So after Thanksgiving, I should be able to start. 😊
Watching you go through the whole process is my favourite kind of video. Love that it’s over an hour long.
What a great helper! He's a champ at decluttering.
He's going to be the next Cory Chalmers in the hoarders TV show! Lol (hope I spelled the tv star's name right 😮)
This video found me at exactly the right time. My own "Monica" closet is begging for organization and direction. Thank you, Dawn and Corbin!
So sweet to see you and Corbin do this together 💕
He is such an awesome helper❤
I finally took care of a nagging silent to do list item id had for years. 10+ years of paystubs from my job id been saving. Shredded and finally thrown into the recycling!
I love that you also struggle sometimes to let stuff go. I decluttered 2 closets while watching this video. Thank you for your wisdom and inspiration.
One thing I like about using the bins you use inside the shelving is that the bins become drawers, which make all the shelves SO much more accessible. I'm 66, and getting down on the floor to reach way to the back of a shelf is something I can't easily do anymore. It's so much easier to grab the front of the bin, pull it out a little ways, see everything on the shelf, and push it back in when you're done. All my lower shelves have bins now, including kitchen cupboards and under sink cabinets. Makes the house much more liveable.
My daughter helped me clean and organize our basement yesterday for 3 hours. It still has a long ways to go, but at least I can walk around in there now to continue the work. Having her help was a MAJOR motivator to keep going for as long as we did, and even more importantly - to get started. Best $50 ever!
We all need a Corbin to keep us going!!! That’s awesome!
I’m a newer viewer from Cass’s channel, and I’ve been watching all of your videos the past 2 weeks and it has been so enlightening. I really love relaxing long form content like this that I can play while I work because I’m getting inspired and feeling productive and I get really excited to start decluttering a new drawer or closet once I get through my work tasks! Thank you for all that you do to help others Dawn and share what you’ve learned.!
Corbin is an amazing helper! He’s learned so much from you and he sounds a lot like his dad. 😊
I like the word crap here…because it’s the right word for what you’re talking about!
Hi Corbin! 😄👋 It's always so fun to see your great kids pop in! And thank you for this video (and ALL your videos). I think the reason why I like the long ones the most is just because you are SO encouraging, Dawn, it is reassuring and hopeful just to hear your voice. 😄 I know that may sound weird, but, truly, I believe God has gifted you with that exhorting, encouraging nature that comes alongside people and just makes them feel inspired, hopeful, and like "Yes, I actually CAN do this!" Thank you for sharing His gift to you with the rest of us. God bless you and your family! 💖🤗💖
Thank you so much, this means more than you know!!!!
@@TheMinimalMom Oh, you are so welcome! YOU and your family mean more to so many of us than you could ever know! The LORD bless you, Sis! 🤗📖💖
What a good son Corbin is! He is keepng you accountable! ❤
@TheMinimalMom thank you for giving us permission to just throw things out that we just don’t have the capacity to deal with. Yes it feels wasteful but man it feels freeing when I can just say nope I don’t have time for this bin, I don’t need anything in it so toss. I’ve been on a weeks long mission to highly simplify my space and I’m already seeing the benefits. Thank you.
There are no words to describe the feeling of a simplified and organized home ❤
I love the real time...and thinking out loud... to help teach that key thought process component!!!
I love how close you are with your children...and the thinking out loud process is coming through your children too...I love that!!
That helps us all make better decision making in the present and future!!
Such a great video!!!
Every family needs a good “helper” kids like Corbin!
Corbin’s a taskmaster! And thinking through how to get the shelving out was fun to watch his process. Self-possessed, confident, and competent decluttering assistant. Kudos to the young man and his parents 🕊🌿✨☀
So glad you showed the entire process! Thanks so much.
I can think of nothing more FUN than spending a day organizing a space with my son! Corban seems to have such a sweet and gentle spirit not to mention he is an excellent "declutterer", helper and encourager! You have instilled such wonderful work ethics in your children! The new space is inspiring and like a breath of fresh air! Excellent video!
1. I love your videos. They are really relatable. They're really inspirational and help get me moving. I often pause in the middle to go do a 10-minute declutter and than come back to it. 2. The Clutterbug categories are super helpful, of course now I got to figure out how to organize for a ladybug (me) and a butterfly (my spouse). Wish me luck. 3. I love that you respect you kids wish to not be in your videos.
I have 2 sons that are "#1 helpers"...they are such a blessing aren't they!?!? ❤❤❤
Wow. It's amazing how much bigger the space looks by visually unifying the walls & the shelves with the same white tint. Now, the shelves have more of a built-in look. Before, the space looked cramped just because the shelves didn't match the wall color. Taking the monochrome theme even further with the rugs makes the space look finished. I'm feeling inspired now to declutter the three closets in my home.
Moving the shelving was a young Tom! Amazing how he was explaining how it would come out of the closet and get down the stairs--just like Tom would explain! Wonderful to see you two working together! 🌿M
It warms my heart to see your messy space and to watch you power / struggle through it.
Before this even really gets going I want to tell you that I love your long, once-a-week posts. I’m so far into this lifestyle that I need these longer ones. They are helpful.
Thanks Dawn! Man your son reminds me soooo much of our second son when we first moved here 6 years ago (he was going on 9). He now is over 6 ft. 200 lbs and looks and acts like he is 18. It goes so fast!!! We are still homeschooling him with our 3 and 5 year old this year. We have six children (oldest is 16) and I have VERY little bandwidth for anything extra. Your videos have been sooo helpful. I’m almost marking the year mark of major major major decluttering and minimizing. I know how fast 6 years go and how children don’t seem like children anymore that fast. This was a huge sober reality of that seeing your son and how he reminded me of that age that is gone in a flash. I really want these next 6 years to not have weekends wasted on managing and organizing stuff!!!
Corbin is totally awesome!!!! He’s so positive and such a great helper. I agree with him to finish before painting. I’m also glad you did the longer video showing the process. Thanks for all you do for us Dawn 😊
Awesome job, Dawn and Corbin. You're both so inspirational! Thank you for sharing your journey with us.
I need a kid like Corbin 😅 would love more videos about getting your kids to be helpful and comfortable with decluttering.
Also, I’m a cricket! Learning about not putting things away until I have time to do it perfectly has been helpful to get me to realize, just do it. Something is better than nothing.
Great job Corbin! Such a good boy💝 he deserves a special treat.
Sick in bed, but no big deal because there’s a Minimal Mom feature film out today ❤😂
I just recently set out a box of random things in front of my house with a free sign and it was snatched up within an hour. I would highly recommend, I felt like it was going to a good home that way.
Thank you for being so willing to share the spaces in your home with us!
A great transformation! Congrats to you and Corbin!🎉
I've been waiting for this space to get a makeover, so excited to watch and work alongside you today Dawn!
I love seeing you go through the whole process and your son is such a great helper ❤
Loved this video! Having you explain your decisions, chatting and then seeing that fabulous result, just WOW! Thanks so much for the encouragement and inspiration
Awesome job Corbin, you are a great helper! That looks great!
Corbin is so cute and such a good helper!
Your son's a great helper & so kind & respectful. Good job mom!
What a transformation...Congratulations to Corbin for encouraging you to do this, Dawn...my hat goes off to you both!! Enjoy your day!!
Am I the only person wondering if there could be no closet and the growing boys could have a bigger bedroom? With other buildings on the farm and the big basement area maybe the home school and office supplies could go elsewhere?
They have mentioned in the future having a finished basement with bedrooms for the boys.
I love how real you are!!😊
Love the length and more importantly the content of this one. Seeing you go thru the process was a helpful reminder. Corbin is such a great helper!!!
It's amazing knowing what organizing style we are and how it effects how we declutter / organize - till I found you all I didn't realize what the heck I was even doing with the mountains of stuff I had. I still have stuff, but the stuff that I've gone thru isn't overwhelming anymore. Thanks for all your help!!!
Dawn, what a transformation! Thanks for showing the whole unedited version! Love it, love you, Cindy 💗🌻
Your video came at the perfect moment! I too have such a storage room…it has been haunting me for a long time. I really now want to clear it out and organise it. Thanks for giving me the motivation to do so!!
Corbin is such a blessing! So smart, cute and sweet!!! What a helper, and he makes good decisions!
Corbin explaining how to do things reminds me of Rusty Judgment's how do videos ! He's such a good helper, I enjoyed watching him.
I enjoyed this video so much. Seeing what a difference some paint and decluttering can do. Hats off to Corbin for his help that is awesome.
This looks so nice! I did something similar to my craft storage,, and I felt the anxiety lift when it was done! Thanks for all your amazing videos!
Can I just say….you Rock!! You’re ideas are great and you provide so much motivation!! Thanks so much to you and Corbin too, great job mate!! 🥰
I ❤ that you still have places to organize and declutter this many years in lol because it gives me hope for my future and journey!! I have been pursuing and selling unused or unneeded inventory!! I love this mindset!!
Love this video. Glad you did it in normal speed. Very helpful and relaxing to watch.
