Just general advice from my 150ish hours into the alpha and beta builds of the game. The advice talks about weapons and hideout defense. If anyone has specific questions I probably know the answer, feel free to ask.
Don't waste your wardrobes/chairs. You can put a chair behind a door to force it shut if an enemy opens it. Forcing the enemy to either A: Break open the door, or B: Force the door open via shoving. Both buy you time. You can place wardrobes next to each other in front of doors to not let enemies go inside, in hideout one I have both wardrobes in the room with the workbench in front of that door to the tiny room. Most enemies will ignore that room, I've never had those wardrobes destroyed. Bear traps, bear traps, bear traps, BEAR TRAPS! Especially in later hideouts! Bear traps are your best friends, they buy you time! And on top of that they damage enemies. A good tip if an enemy is breaking into your safe room is to place a bear trap in their way. They will hit it, you have time to repair the barricade if you have the wood/nails with you. (Which you should.) And then kill it.
A lot of people seem to have trouble with hideout 2, I never have. There are plenty of wardrobes/chairs/couches to keep you company. I have 2 wardrobes blocking the door to the outside by the workbench room. The table blocking the door into the bathroom. The couch blocking the window. The bathroom door barricaded, the window barricaded + a bear trap in front of that. Both lamps in the bathroom. And I usually get a pistol within 1-2 nights in hideout 2.
Glass bottles: These are great! Throw one at an enemy and it'll deal damage to it, then it leaves a pile of glass that will damage the first enemy to walk over it. Often if I bear trap a room I throw glass over the bear trap. Then the enemy that stumbles in usually dies in one hit.
    Melee Weapons!
Make the plank with nails ASAP, an upgraded can kill a small dog in 3 ish hits. A damage upgraded one can kill it in 2 hits. It has a really fast windup plus a mini stun effect.
Pitchfork, REACH REACH REACH REACH. This has AMAZING reach, at the cost of a lot of stamina. I would say 100% upgrade stamina if you get a pitchfork, I would say the pitchforks main purpose in my playthroughs is an anti-chomper weapon, I upgrade the pitchforks stamina drain, then before the fight If I have time I take stamina pills. Range is amazing against most enemies in this game. I would say try the pitchfork out. It's worth seeing if you like it's combat style.
Knife: The downside to the knife is you cannot upgrade it, nor can you repair it. The knife can be thrown for a considerable amount of damage. If you are doing a ranged build (Which is pretty much take farsightedness, and do not take the negative perks that impact guns.) then having a knife to soften up the enemy before using valuable ammo is really good. I've never gotten the quick attack to work on the knife, but I haven't tried too much. I believe the knife can one shot ranged savages and small dogs. So if you have a group then you can target the weak guys with it.
Sickle: This is one of the best weapons in the game. Using it effectively requires amazing knowledge of the combat mechanics though. It lacks an enemy stun effect, so the enemies animation WILL NOT BE INTERRUPTED like it will with other weapons. The sickle has lunge attack and can get 2 hits. The alternative attack gives you a dodge effect. I need to practice more with this but I can give a little bit of advice. 1: Don't use it in the middle of an enemies attack. DODGE, one thing you can do is use the first lunge to dodge, then turn so the second hit connects with the enemy. I'm not 100% sure this still works in the final version, I'll test it in the future then edit this.
Staff: Dropped by the savages. I don't use these unless I have no alternative. But it has pretty good range so I'd say if you need extra range to kill an enemy take one.
Shovel: Shovels are pretty good weapons. I am not great with them and they use a lot have stamina and have a slow windup. But they do really good damage and have a GREAT hitbox. It's really easy to actually hit as long as you don't get stunned out of your attack. Shovels can also dig up certain areas around the map. There is 1 I know of in chapter 1 and like 10+ in chapter 2.
Axe: I love the axe, does the best damage out of the melee weapons. Has an equal windup to the shovel and has a smaller hitbox, so hitting the enemy is a bit harder. But it also uses less stamina. I would say getting an axe is a priority in the game. You won't get one for a while, and once you do practice with it. You WILL need all the help you can get in chapter 2.
Firearms: I like me some guns!
One shot pistol: Does a lot more damage than the standard pistol but only holds one shot. I don't build them, but if I find one I use it.
Pistol: My favorite gun, 1 clip can kill almost any enemy and it's pretty forgiving on a miss (Compared to the shotgun or bolt action rifle.) I get one in hideout 100% of the time, then I start stockpiling ammo for it. I always keep 1-4 pistol mags on me at all times.
Homemade Shotgun: The homemade shotgun can oneshot most enemies if used correctly. It has 2 shots and cannot be reloaded. I would say this is more valuable to build than the oneshot pistol due to the second shot. This is a really good weapon. It does more damage the closer the enemy is like all shotguns (Mechanically there is a bullet spread, and if all bullets hit the enemy you get max damage.)
Shotgun: Only holds one shot, does a tiny bit less damage than the homemade version. This one is also amazing. The main downside is it can only hold one shot. So use this to soften up a group of enemies, or kill a chomper. Not really worth using a shot against a dog or savage unless you have no alternative weapon.
Double barrel shotgun: Does exactly the same as the shotgun as far as I know, but holds 2 shots. AMAZING.
Bolt Action Rifle: I call this the sniper rifle. It has AMAZING range and allows you to see way farther. I use it to scan the environment ahead of me, and if there is an enemy I need dead I can hit it pretty quickly and efficiently. It only holds one shot, but you can carry 10 rounds per inventory space. It has good damage. I would say build one of these if you have a chance, but it is an endgame weapon.
Assault rifle: Holds 20 shots and fires in 3 round bursts. This weapon can kill absolutely anything in a skilled hand. It fires quickly, the ammunition is hard to find though and the ammunition is 100% limited in the game, don't waste it, and the gun itself only has a small amount of ways to get it in the game, it cannot be built. But if you do find one. have fun!

Thought that the invaders can see you through the barricaded window(s)
and start attacking when seeing you, so i placed the wardrobe(s) to
block the view in. Unsure if that's a placebo i've created for myself.

Excellent video dude! I tried Darkwood out for an hour or so and died horribly on Day 2 with no idea what to do really.
Your video is a massive help and really helps with getting the "vibe" of the game.
Please keep it up, this game is so interesting looking and seems like there is a lot more to it than initially meets the eye, videos like yours will hopefully help others get into this little gem.
    Great work! 👍

I'd be interested in watching a full series on this if you decide to do one, I had a hell of a time finding the logging camp myself I looked all over the very first region and it ended up being literally a stone's throw away from my house to the right the only area I didn't look

Please keep doing this series! It's awesome :) Can you talk a bit more about your learning curve with the time in the day? When I first started, I *thought* it was getting orange/sunsetty so I ran back and started the generator, but then it took another like five minutes to actually get dark and the generator ran out. SUPER creepy standing with all the noises and not having a clue what's going on til they burst in. I can never figure out when exactly is safe to go outside and turn it on, or where's too far/when to turn back. Thank you for streaming and doing these

Dunno if this'll help anyone else out. Probably not, and I'm the only one that is mentally deficient lol.
The workbench can be used for storage. Like ALOT of storage.
I went until double-digit nights somehow without knowing this. I was using every storage space in the house, and even some corpses and tractors outside of the house for storage before I realized this 🤦😅🤣

I'm late to the party but only recently became aware of Darkwood. Got to day 3 (despite having no generator for night 2) without any help but this guide gave me a _massive_ boost for my second play through, so many things I didn't know! Thanks a lot man!

@LoneGrey Dude, I learned several new things in this video, so I'd say you clearly know a lot about the game! Besides, as you said, it's not technically a "tutorial", so even if you do get something wrong, it doesn't matter haha.
I think the help it provides far outweighs any potential "wrong" information. Plus, it was fun to watch. I'm not even someone who enjoys watching let's plays, but I enjoyed this.

Not at all. Just really make sure you get enough wood so you can make a plank with nails and then barricade the spots I talked about in the video. Try to avoid combat until you have some resources. You got this! ;)

This was superbly helpful...I just started the game today, and flipped back and forth between game and video as I went along. Thanks very much for taking the time to do this! The tips were great, I didn't even notice that time froze during the first part of the morning, and I tend to hoard in survival-type games, so both of those were a big help.

My top tier list of perks to take when you first start playing.
Farsightedness**, Moth, Runner**, Acid blood, Scream**, Careful step, Chameleon, Vitality
EDIT: I marked perks you should ALWAYS take with **
    Negative perks to take:
    Poison Vulnerability, Weakness, Weak Regeneration
Two items to always look out for when buying from traders: Wires and gas cans. Get those and you'll be able to survive no problem. Wire is used to lockpicks, which open doors and loot crates on the maps. When I get a new melee weapon the first upgrade I always put into it is extra damage as well.

    use tiretracks to run longer.
the first chapter had this to all important locations for me.
so i could go to the village by using the tracks without running out of stamina.
but i do think this depends on luck with the map
