- I went out for my first attempt at halibut for the year and it payed off. Once again, small swimbaits were the ticket to success. Hopefully y'all can learn a thing or two from the video and use it this upcoming Halibut season. They should be in thick.

You're spot on with your information. I quit using bait a couple years ago. I'd rather spend my time fishing than messing with bait all day long. 4" is the size to use also. I catch very few under sized halibut on swimbaits too, that's another plus. Good job!
Where did you launch? I fished last week near the Alameda wall and caught two 30-inchers.
I just started fishing for halibut off my kayak and am completely lost. Any advice for depth, structure vs. sand etc.? Do you all just let it drag as you drift or do you hop it more vertical every so often? I just have such a hard time seeing bites when my weight keeps catching on rocks and kelp…
Poor rockfish :(

Yes your back! Can’t wait to watch more and learn from your videos!!
They can site you if they want to for not having a landing net. Min. Of a 18 inch hoop. My friends have gotten tickets FYI. I hate bringing a net on a kayak too.
quack
Looks like 80 feet
I’m sure you can tell
I cant find the new Okuma Rockaway SP , any suggestions ?
Try Fish USA. Stock is low for a lot of fishing stuff at the moment so you might just be out of luck

Got my first halibut of the season last week and I’m looking forward to a great season! it was my first one on artificial too!
Nice! Good luck with them in the coming months
How deep were you drifting? Great video!
Around 60 feet
No fishfinder? That's pretty hardcore.
I am the fish finder
@@thesantacruzsurfcaster6231 LMAO
awesome all around. Appreciate all the tips! I must say I rate this video top of all the other one's i've been watching lately from other bay area folks. Why? I consider this the people's champion. Simple, down to basics yet effective. No fancy motorized kayak, fishfinder or expensive rig, just sheer skill and determination. That's why! Plus local to my area!! I am wondering what kayak you're using?
It’s an Ocean Kayak Prowler 13. Pretty affordable and a very streamlined kayak. Makes paddling easy
Nice one Everett! My bait of choice too. See you on the beach in the next month for them striper! 👍🏼
why are you fishing 3 rods
Why not
I thought you were only allowed two rods max. I could be wrong.
in the bay and ocean, you only allowed to use 1 rod unless you commercial... was curious how you using 3 rods too lol
how long your lead is?
On what rod
@@thesantacruzsurfcaster6231 the Tranx
About 7 feet, the fg knot can’t be inside the reel when you’re casting so I usually go with about a rod length of leader
@@thesantacruzsurfcaster6231 Thanks
Everett, did you get an Old Town yak too?
No, I’m looking to get a Hobie
@@thesantacruzsurfcaster6231 they need to hook you up.
