Lacquer based paints (or any stuff; Topcoat, primer, etc) is considered the strongest adherence against bare plastic, while enamel (believe it or not) is the weakest. Acrylic is kind of a middle ground and can become strong as long as you primer your kits first before painting. That's why the Lacquer topcoat didn't chip, a really good friend of mine who joins model kit competition told me that the best combination for paints would be: Lacquer based Primer, Lacquer base coat, acrylic paint for detailing and finally enamel panel lines. Hope this helps man! and we'd love to watch more painted kits and custom kits from you man!! :D
@@MechaGaikotsu eyy! Im honored you've replied! hahaha Im happy to help man! oh and one more thing the reason why Lacquer is so strong is that it actually melts plastic to basically combine with it. If you watch some tutorials on how to strip paint on model kits you'd find that the only thing they can't strip is primer (which mostly is lacquer based) with that said, be careful with lacquers though they are hellishly hot (when they say something is *hot* it means it can eat through plastic) I had the big mistake of using hardware grade lacquer to thin paints, I say this because just like you from Ireland, It is really hard to get by hobby-grade materials here in the Philippines so we tend to get experimental and use hardware grade stuff on model kits. I ended up melting some parts of the torso of a build burning gundam. Another thing too is that lacquer stuff is toxic so be sure to do the painting on a ventilated area. Enamel too is extremely hot but with a different behavior; It brittles your plastic. Be careful when applying it to kits because for some reason if it seeps through gaps between the armor it can crack a model kit piece on the underside (also for some weird reason enamel doesn't crack the smooth surfaces of plastic but only cracks the underside of a plastic piece) primer and topcoating before panel washing negates this effect. I hope these stuffs helps on your next project!
