I agree that the silencer makes the most noticeable change on a 2-stroke with regards to the exhaust. I had a 2001 Yamaha Blaster 200cc 2-stroke that was really very tame. I later put an FMF silence on the back and *HOLY CRAP* did that thing wake up! It would want to wheelie in first and second all the time! It seriously blew me away how much better it was with a freer flowing exhaust.
The list of mods for my bike would go #1 having a spark arrestor, preferring that FMF. #2 is a steering damper. I will never go back to not having my steering damper Saves so much energy, which improves all other aspects of riding.
nope your expansion pipe is where all the magic happens difrent shape and size cones will change the power and torque . rear silencers will only make a slight difrence but the front pipe will change the whole set up of the bike
True...I can't tell you how many different pipes I tried for racing and the expansion chamber will change your power delivery/power band more than any silencer on a 2 stroke bike (enduro as well). The silencer is more of a bling item and can give you a better "sound" on your bike plus free up some weight.
I put a Turbine Core 2 on my 300 and it did not increase power anywhere in the rev range. It does not unplug anything. It did change the exhaust note a little bit, and gains you a spark arrester. But if you're looking for more power don't waste your money on this silencer.
Troy P i think it may have beefed up the mid range slightly on my yz 250x with the stock pipe but that's a lot different motor than the 300.. the fmf gnarly expansion and turbine core2 combo definitely made a big difference.. but you are right if your just going to replace one or the other definitely the expansion will give you the best results.
Not all the magic. I have an ‘04 200 EXC and there is a huge difference in bottom end power as well as how the powervalve opens with the big OEM spark arrestor v the SX silencer.
Well done. I have a FMF Shorty and a Fatty pipe on my 250 SX and I love the set up. Every fourth race I take my bikes down to the frame and when I reinstall the pipe and silencer I use new orings at the manifold. I clean off the spooge real good at the head pipe / stinger junction and apply some red RTV silicone pretty liberally inside the rubber boot. To help defer your cost, you should sell those tshirts..! I would by a couple..!
I put a fmf q stelth pipe on mine. Makes it a little quieter and has a spark spark arrestor. I'd avoid the pro circuit pipes. I had some split on me when getting dents fixed due to poor welding penetration. The fmf expansion chambers are better made but are a little heavier than a stock ktm pipe. The expansion chamber makes a much bigger difference than the silencer. Those dents won't really affect power output. Dents near the exhaust port will greatly affect hp figures.
I have an 06 YZ250 and I run the fmf SST with the fmf shorty and I find it's a fantastic combo I have a ton of bottom end to lug it like a 4 stroke but it still doesn't lack anything on the top end also it sounds amazing
I use the FMF Turbine Core 2 for the newer bikes and the FMF Universal ones for the older bikes since they are spark arrestors. I disgree on the sound though, they muffle the sound from my bikes a bit, changes it a little. Probably a little quieter, but they sound meaner with the HGS and non-spark arrestor options. Of course, have to use the spark arrestor (even though it should only be required for 4 strokes!) to be legal.
+Opferman Motors Dirtbiking I'm saying that this gives the bikes I've owned a better sound than stock, AND they are forest service legal. 2 birds with one stone.
Nice bunch of videos, stumbled across your channel after having a debate over 300 exc / 350 excf (uk), I've ended up staying up and watching everyone of your vids minus Gun's and still haven't come to a decision haha. Keep it up I've subscribed
I went from completely stock on my 94 CR250R over to the FMF Gnarly, FMF Turbine Core 2, and a 12/49 and I haven't looked back. It's not the fastest, but I do great on the trails. The Turbine Core 2 is a great silencer and it means a lot to be able to find a good pipe with a spark arrestor that will fit on an older bike.
I have a really good suggestion, and even make a video about it, you can buy like a tie down extension strap, or something similar and take a hot nail and poke a whole into each side with a hot nail, then take your seat bolts out and then put the bolts back on with the bolt through the strap, so that way you have a handle on the back of your bike to make it easier to move around if needed on a tight trail or what not, and you can also tie some around your front forks, look up a couple videos about "dirt bike handle" and you will see what I'm talking about
I really don’t understand saying the turbine core will unplug the bike when it literally has a plug/ obstruction inside that the OEM version doesn’t have?
Ya this is not true at all. Anyone who has repacked a dirtbikes exhaust knows better than this. A stock silencer is literally a wide open straight pipe that doesn't inhibit flow at all.... BUT, in order to ride in certain areas, or do any races like hare scrambles or enduro races, you need a spark arrestor and for my bike I wasn't left with a lot of options so this is how I went. But please people, dont buy this looking for more power!!!
I've got the turbinecore 2.1 for my 17 yz250x and it sounds pretty good even with the stock header pipe. Next purchase will be the fmf gnarly header pipe to go with it.
+The Shadow That Kills I like to take care of it :) Get them dirty on the rides, and then clean them up. Not to mention that I built this little shop to work on my bikes, so I have plenty of opportunity to clean them up when I'm out there messing around.
Kyle, i just bought an FMF Turbinecore 2.1 for my 2018 TX300 and it came without the mounting bushings. The stock silencer (same as your ktm stock silencer) bushings are different. Did your FMF silencee came with the bushings? If not, how can I find the bushings to mount the FMF Turbinecore 2.1 in my TX300? Thanks!
The FMF Turbine Core II Silencer only has one connector and my stock silencer on my 2021 Husky te300i has two. Do I only need to mount one of these? Or is it the wrong after market pipe?
An easy fix for your dented pipe is fill it with water, plug the ends and put it in the freezer...As the water expands it'll pop the dint out. Keep an eye on it though because if you leave it too long it'll split the welds eventually....:-P Might be a good idea for a video...
+Matt Graham You've done this? I would worry about the fact that you can't specify where you want the water to expand. It would expand everywhere in the pipe weakening it... Just my thoughts.
Do you have experience with the FMF Q silencer? If so, is it that much quieter than the Turbinecore 2? I really want the Turbinecore 2 because imo it looks better, but sound (Decibels) plays a big role in my decision
Im in the same boat. Im wondering if there is some different packing options that might quiet the turbine core 2. My stock 300xcw has a nice quiet muffler but no sparky. I was gonna run a enduro engineering end cap screen but many people have bad things to say about those. I ride my local hills sometimes on the bay area coastline so being quiet is a must
I know this video is a few years old, but do you know if there is any performance difference between the powercore 2 and the turbinecore 2? I know the turbinecore has the spark arrestor, but I've heard it also gives better low end. Can you speak to any of this?
Hi Kyle! thanks for the awesome videos! I was wondering if you could do a video on what you should think of when buying your first bike (what cc, 2stroke/4stroke, what model etc.) Keep up the good work! :D
Need to make my 250 SX-F Forrest Service Approved so I can do some trail riding. Any comments on going with a Spark Arrestor End Cap from Pro Moto Billet vs getting a new slip on Muffler from like FMF?
Will it work on a street legal wr250r? For some reason it's under the category as a exhuast option been checking it out but want to make sure... "I am confussion"- Salty Cracker
Do you get oil blow off on your engine / rear shock area which comes from the rubber grommet area between the silencer and header pipe? If so, have you found a way to mitigate it? I watched your video on cleaning, and did notice any specific reference to that area which seems to trouble me the most. I guess I am looking to figure out if the blow off is normal or abnormal. Thank you for the videos Kyle. I love my 300xc and I've learned a lot from you and your work. Thank you.
+Matthew Weiland You may need to adjust the connecting rubber boot forward or back to get a better seal. Some guys will run a bit of high temp silicone there, but I haven't had the problem that bad on any of my 3 300s over the years. My suggestion is to remove your silencer and install it again paying close attention to the location of the rubber boot.
The KTM factory racing series pipe is the best hands down.... Nothing else revs like it. As for the gnarly, what a waste of metal, damn thing wouldn't pull you out of bed.
Hey there Kyle glad to see a ton more videos already this year! Have 2 questions for you. 1. How much slack have you gotten from running pro circuit pipe and an fmf silencer. Since I've been watching you this past 8 months or so I've wanted to poke at you about it but i dont like leaving negative comments so I thought since you brought it up i would say something. 2. Looks like you have banged up about close to 500 bucks worth or pipe's why dont you look into a skid plate/pipe protector? They make some really cool ones for those newer 300's. I have a 2000 ktm 250 and the market for those are few and far between but i would say with you having a newer model it would be well worth the money.
+Zachariah Bowen I haven't taken any flack for mixing and matching pipe/silencer combos. I should try a pipe guard. Some of my riding buddies have had them and still bent the crap out of their pipes, so I've been holding off on them. You still bend the pipe, but just in a different place. That force has to go somewhere....
+Suomalainen Finn! Yeah, I'll have them for sale on dirtbikechannel.com soon. I really like the FMF pipes all the way around. I have to be honest though, I don't have any experience with the 85cc pipes.
how do you think the fmf compares with the pro circut nature friendly silencer, does one of them give a little more power out of the bike or are they about the same other than with the looks?
I heard you mention Beta! Any chance you've been able to ride one? Possibly a bike review? Im asbsolutely in love with my 2016 300 RR. If you haven't checked one out yet, definitely do.
Are the internals of a "shorty" silencer different in any way to a "normal" silencer. I have a fmf silencer for my 04 125exc that I have been thinking about cutting down to the same length as the shorty, does anyone have any experience or knowledge about doing this? Thanks
The turbinecore 2.1 is a little bit more quite vs the turbinecore 2 cause has more packing but doesn't restrict any power. The packing lasts longer because of it having more of it.
+Grassroots Lawn Care I'm not a huge fan of steering stabilizers right now. They make my bike feel heavier than it really is. I don't like that right now.
+Grassroots Lawn Care In the past we have used Scotts, but like Kyle said we don't use them right now and I don't have any experience with any of the other brands.
+Brandon Markus Nope. If your bike is jetted properly to begin with, adding this silencer will not change the jetting. I've not had to adjust for different pipes either.
Kyle I need your help. I'm getting rid of my 350 exc and getting a 300, I've had that decision made for a while. But everytime I think I've made my mind up I rethink myself. I want to get the xc for the suspension, billet triple clamps and just general bling that comes with it but I'm not sure about the gear box compared to the xcw. I know the first gear is longer and I like having a granny gear but other than tight technical stuff and like log hopping I never use a low first gear anyways and second always seems too long for tight stuff. Is the xc gear box too tall to do slow technical riding and do you feel id be better off with the w model? I need someone to put my mind at rest!
+MetalMike55 I really don't miss the low gear of the W. Sure, it's nice in some situations, but it's too low for others. You can always drop the gearing a bit on an XC with a larger rear sprocket if you think it's too tall in first and second gears. You can't go wrong with the XC or the XC W.
+MetalMike55 I am not Kyle, but I do have an opinion on this. The XC gear box is great, even for the "tight technical stuff". To bring all the gearing down a bit, I changed the 50 tooth rear sprocket to a 52 and now its perfect. 3rd is now usable at my speed in tight woods and 1st is a freight train in the super slow stuff.
Jimstigator Do you still have plenty of running gear out in wide open? Around here we can go straight from tight woods to wide open fields and dirt roads you might be going 55 down so I like having a lot of gear too
+MetalMike55 I can tell I dropped 2 teeth, but its not bad. The small shaving off the top was/is well worth the usability I gained in 3rd. I always thought 3rd would be the perfect gear for me in the woods, but couldn't comfortably get my speed up high enough to use it consistently until the new sprocket. Like most things, there is some sacrifice on one side or the other. With 80% woods/climbs and 20% wide open straights, it was a no brainer for me.
André Lol An increase in fuel consumption will only occur with jets,air/fuel mixture screw and an adjustment of the needle. With the absence of the spark arrestor on the powercore you will get better exhaust flow and won't have to worry about the spark arrestor getting plugged up with oil from the exhaust. But like I said, get the turbine if you need a spark arrestor and if not go for the powercore. Hope this helps.
goodaye.. ive been looking at new bikes and i need help deciding on witch one i should get. ive been doing alot of reading and watching, but i need an experts advise. um, i ride alot nearly everyday and its always off road.. i like to ride my bikes like there stolen, but i also like to go on long rides on my back real ahaha. ive always been with yamaha my whole life and always had yamaha jammed down my throat, i need a bike that is narly and that can handle my riding style.. money isnt really an issue, i can always sell my race bikes if needed. im 14 btw... ive also been with 2 stroke all my life ive never ridden a 4s, well like a proper 4s always cheap chines pieces of crap that my mates buy.. im also in australia if that makes a difference. um if you do get back to me thanks alot ^.^
+Wizards_ Taint Why change anything if it's working? The YX250 two strokes are great bikes. I do think it's valuable to ride a variety of stuff to see if you like something better than another. I wish money wasn't an issue for me :)
yeah thats exactly right.. i want to ride new things you know? like its just starting toi get boring, and since ive been moving away from motocross and more serious enduro, ive been looking at new bikes...
I have to disagree with you. The silencer is barely significant for power. Instead, changing the stock pipe (the expansion chamber) is what unlocks the performance of the 2-stroke. My first bike was a Yamaha DT 125 R model year 2000 and foolishly I changed the silencer first. I barely noticed any change. But still it was way lighter than the stock. But when i changed the expansion chamber, boy oh boy.... It was a totally new beast. Granted, the difference for the DT 125 was huge because the stock expansion pipe had muffles/constrictors inside, in order to pass emissions standards. But even for competition bikes, I believe that the key for performance is the expansion chamber and not so much the silencer.
On the multiple KTM 300's I've owned the silencer is better bang for the buck. Your bike may be different, but I'm speaking from a position of experience on this these bikes. Thanks for watching.
Unless the silencer is highly restrictive, it should have very little effect on 2T power. SOTP notwithstanding. The expansion chamber is what changes the power characteristics of a 2T motor. The design and shape controls the exhaust pulse back to the exhaust port. Other than the engine design itself, this is where you make power with a 2T. It applies to all two strokes.
I have had problems with my enduro engineering spark arrestor screen, it becomes coked up easily, and if I get out of the habit this seemingly insignificant thing will drastically effect the engine's performance, it will literally have you chasing your tail looking at other things like jetting etc......when the bike will not rev out and is down on top end power this would be the best indicator that your screen or silencer may be restricting the exhaust flow. Part 2 is I find it frankly stupid we are require to use spark arrestors on 2 strokes, our exhaust gas temperatures are so low by the time the pulse moves through the expansion chamber to the silencer there is almost zero possibility of sparking, 4 stroke without question should be require, their egt's are much higher, this is another example of lazy unnecessary epa regulations, no engineering thought process involved in their determination, they simple figure evidently 2 and 4 strokes engines are the same which they clearly are not.
I also have the EE spark arrestor end cap and have had the same problem with it clogging up. I take the screen out and clean after every ride now. I saw another video where the person cleaned it by burning the carbon off with a torch so they didn't have to remove it.
Yo Kyle! I just put the same muffler on my 2009 300 XC-W based on your review. Did you have an issue with the back bracket not on the same plane relative to the mounting hole in the frame? I made it work but was a little miffed it was like that. I did a sound comparison video and like the idle of the new FMF. Its a little more throaty. Check it out.ua-cam.com/video/BDLWMVd-fsw/v-deo.html
this guy is acting as if money would grow on trees , he never talks about that not everybody is gonna buy this waste of money, id rather buy fuel with that money
+ACreativeName Yet, a lot of guys are putting after market parts on their bikes. All the guys I ride with have done a few changes to their bikes over the years. Would you prefer I just show how to put fuel in the bike :)
I agree that the silencer makes the most noticeable change on a 2-stroke with regards to the exhaust. I had a 2001 Yamaha Blaster 200cc 2-stroke that was really very tame. +Etienne Zybrands I have that in my plans.
Cool Thanks!
Just got my turbine core 2 silencer and FMF Gnarly pipe for my “93 CR500 restoration project .
Great videos. Really nice quality of work for somebody who is a regular rider with great passion to the sport.
+Arthur Perna Thanks for noticing!

is it possibel to put this on a kawasaki klx110R beacuse its a 4 stroke
are they loud because all I can find for my bike is silencers

+Dakota Newman yeah, I plan on doing that.

Great video. Are there products available for smaller bikes? KTM 2006 zx 65. Many thanks
+Pat Green Not sure... You'd have to visit the FMF site and take a peek around.
I have the same one, on the same bike, and its great. How often do you repack it? (Assuming proper jetting/spooge levels)
+Jimstigator Maybe once per year... that really depends on your riding style and the oil you are using.
can you do a review on exhaust tape
Hi im looking at buying a ktm 300 exc 12 to 16 am i better off spending a bit more on newer model
The KTM factory racing series pipe is the best hands down.... Nothing else revs like it. As for the gnarly, what a waste of metal, damn thing wouldn't pull you out of bed.

Do the spark plug arrestors also decrease the noise level?
why dont you have a pipe guard?
right on buddy! good review!
+LostEmpires Thank you.
Do you need to use a tuner when you put on a after market exhaust?
I put a turbincore 2 on my 01 yz250 and I lost my bottom end power that I had with my pro circuit shorty
That shirt!! i'm gonna buy it as soon as i can! Also nice review, i'll buy new pipe and silencer to my 85, would you recommend the fmf pipes?
+Suomalainen Finn! Yeah, I'll have them for sale on dirtbikechannel.com soon. I really like the FMF pipes all the way around. I have to be honest though, I don't have any experience with the 85cc pipes.
+Dirt Bike Channel Turbinecore 2 fits 85 cc's so i guess that's the way to go
+Dirt Bike Channel i love the website!! Daaamn thos pics at the bacl round, it sure is something i haven't seen! I'm lovin' it!
How did u get the rubber part on the end of the silencer off of the stock silencer?
What's your favorite trail up Payson canyon?
+braxton buck All of them :) Maybe Bennies Creek.
+braxton buck what's your's?
how do you think the fmf compares with the pro circut nature friendly silencer, does one of them give a little more power out of the bike or are they about the same other than with the looks?
+josh south They are about the same on performance, but the FMF looks so much better, I don't ever plan on getting the pro circuit silencer again.
hi there, do you know what is the difference between the turbine core 2 and the titanium 2?
I heard you mention Beta! Any chance you've been able to ride one? Possibly a bike review? Im asbsolutely in love with my 2016 300 RR. If you haven't checked one out yet, definitely do.
+Asah E. It's on my list of bike to try for sure.
Utah's on my list of places to ride. Maybe we can work something out 👍😉
Do you have to jet your bike differently if you put that pipe on
What's better a shorty or a silencer ?
If you like to do the riding I do, then the silencer is much better. The short is too loud and will get you tickets.
Are the internals of a "shorty" silencer different in any way to a "normal" silencer. I have a fmf silencer for my 04 125exc that I have been thinking about cutting down to the same length as the shorty, does anyone have any experience or knowledge about doing this? Thanks
+rminecraftsteve I haven't used a shorty (or taken one apart).
Did you have to adjust your air/fuel mixture after adding that?
+Dave D Nope.
is there a big difference between the sound of the Original silencer and the Turbine Core 2 ?
+marcel rafetseder The aftermarket one sounds better for sure.
what would happen if you put this on a 4 stroke?
Where did you get the turbine core?
any significant difference between the 2 and 2.1?
nate emmett 2.1 is heavier and more expensive. Bigger looking
.1
Haven't personally tried them but I've seen people mention the 2.1 is not as loud. Heard 99 db for the TC2 mentioned when tested for events.
The turbinecore 2.1 is a little bit more quite vs the turbinecore 2 cause has more packing but doesn't restrict any power. The packing lasts longer because of it having more of it.
We're would you get a high performance muffler like the one in the video
+Jenieva Collier It's a good one.
for motocross, would you recommend a shorty or turbine core ???
+5eleven productions I don't have any experience with motocross, but I think that is what the shorty is for. It's too loud for the woods.
+5eleven productions I have been told if you want the more HP and Torque go with the shorty. They are much louder then the turbine.
thinking about doing this to mine but will i lose any power?
No
How do you think the ktm 450xcw would hold up as endure bike?
+josh zub If you like 4 strokes, it would be a great bike.
+Dirt Bike Channel also do Ktms hold up Nicely and do they require a lot of maintenance or just the same maintenance as other bikes.
Any recommendations for a steering stabilizer for ktm 350 xcf-w
+Grassroots Lawn Care I'm not a huge fan of steering stabilizers right now. They make my bike feel heavier than it really is. I don't like that right now.
+Grassroots Lawn Care In the past we have used Scotts, but like Kyle said we don't use them right now and I don't have any experience with any of the other brands.
Did you have to make any jetting changes for just changing the silencer? And do you make jetting adjustments when changing pipes?
+Jimstigator I'm completely inline with your thinking here. You hit the nail on the head.
Why dont you just put an fmf header as well as the exhaust for more power
What do you think about of the powercore 2?
That and the turbine core are the same exact pip s but the turbine core has a spark arrestor
+André Lol I haven't used the powercore.
Jeremy Miguire Oh ok, and the fuel comsumption will increase with a powercore 2 silencer?
Dirt Bike Channel Oh, ok thx!
Hope this helps.
can't wait til i get out of college and can actually afford all of this stuff
+Phuck Liberals It can certainly take some time. Be patient :)
goodaye.. ive been looking at new bikes and i need help deciding on witch one i should get. ive been doing alot of reading and watching, but i need an experts advise. um, i ride alot nearly everyday and its always off road.. i like to ride my bikes like there stolen, but i also like to go on long rides on my back real ahaha. ive always been with yamaha my whole life and always had yamaha jammed down my throat, i need a bike that is narly and that can handle my riding style.. money isnt really an issue, i can always sell my race bikes if needed. im 14 btw... ive also been with 2 stroke all my life ive never ridden a 4s, well like a proper 4s always cheap chines pieces of crap that my mates buy.. im also in australia if that makes a difference. um if you do get back to me thanks alot ^.^
Granted, the difference for the DT 125 was huge because the stock
expansion pipe had muffles/constrictors inside, in order to pass emissions standards.
I saw another video where the person cleaned it by burning the carbon off with a torch so they didn't have to remove it.
what that is road legal?
+Im .Shark yes, everything I show on this channel is legal.
+Im .Shark Unless you are talking about the bikes. The bikes are not street legal. I think I mis-understood your question.
Oh ok. I was meant for the bike.

Check it out.ua-cam.com/video/BDLWMVd-fsw/v-deo.html
oh nooooooooooooooo............oops, he done messed up, yupp.

Did you just say “turban”? lol
this guy is acting as if money would grow on trees , he never talks about that not everybody is gonna buy this waste of money, id rather buy fuel with that money
+ACreativeName Yet, a lot of guys are putting after market parts on their bikes. All the guys I ride with have done a few changes to their bikes over the years. Would you prefer I just show how to put fuel in the bike :)
+acreativename we are all waiting your HD informative "buying fuel" video
