I can say first hand that I watched them install these sirens in 1988 as they were so great at 30,780$ installed yet the issues after they went through a winter in brutle cold was hard on them, the 480volt 3 phase system is not good at steady run times, weekly testing would be better exercise for circuit. Thats pretty cool. I know these are very good sirens, easily some of my favorites. They were lucky to get it shut off by the disconnect switch. I'm hoping the stuck relay didn't cause major damage to the chopper motor, it could have a simple new relay to possible siren replacement if the motor is not accessible with the bucket shape design or a new motor if it is accessible.
Dad and I were part the siren tests for Palo Verde nuclear generating station every six months. As Ham radio operators we Did it for years, Dad was a RACES Officer and some times flew around in the Governor's fixed wing aircraft. We both had FEMA certs as well.
There's a seperate motor in the base to rotate it... no power takeoff from the chopper motor to run a transmission. Theoretically you could have two motor contactors and an ECM that could rotate the P50 contentiously while in attack, but I don't know if that's an option or if it's even available.
@@uwtitanfan iirc, when ACA converted into ASC, they VERY early T-135's were just rebadged P-50's. These early T-135's DID have separate circuits for the rotator and chopper Edit: these early models were called T-135AC's
Maybe if the motor and controls are shot, maybe they will take an inactive P-50 like Wilmot, and replace this one. Or maybe they will have Fulton install a T-135.
The DTMF? Thats a digital command to shut the siren down. They send it numerous times to make sure the siren shuts off. Morse code following that indicates the channel callsign as required by the FCC.
Jesus am I thankful the Siren itself is fine! I bet the relay was *GLOWING* hot at that moment of time with 480V! Had to of been running around a cycle of 240Hrz too.
@@SirenDude1003 Oh! I always thought it was 50, or 60hz, until someone said if something was 3 phased on 60hrz, it would add up to 120hz. And 3 phased 50hz, it would add to 100hz, because 120V in two phases making 240 with 60hz would add to 120 cycles. I was confused for a minute when that user commented that, because anything three phased in the states, buzzes and sounds the same as single phase. Like a 3 phased condenser unit humming, sounds like what a fridge compressor would sound like if humming. But then another user also said 3 phased machines running at 220, 240V would run 120 cycles if the mains in the states are 60 cycles, which is the frequency in North America. So that's where I'd be confused. And if the Siren is 480V, I just added from there, but I was probably wrong regardless, it probably wouldn't be 240Hrz, if that's how it works it'd most likely still be 120 cycles because there's no more than 3 Phases going to the chopper. But I could've been closer the first time.
@@enderpea5251 No, it sticks to the country’s frequency. If it were running on 240hz the siren’s pitch ratio would be 1920hz / 2880hz. At that point any motor would probably explode.
