I'm Adrian and I've been working in the video game industry for 4 years as a real-time VFX artist.
As a fan of Pokémon, I recreated in 3D the Arceus encounter scene from the original Pokémon Diamond and Pearl and I just wanted to share the result in this video. This runs in realtime 60fps with nvidia gtx 970. Feedback is totally welcome!

What's sad is that this was probably made by one person, and we still can't get the world's biggest video game company to push out something like this
The more money coming in and the less going out the better, they honestly don't really give a shit about their western audience. they know we'll buy it anyways so why bother?.

This isnt a game. There is no programming behind this. And I feel like the big thing that was holding them back from doing the entire game in this style was making the region have the same layout, with all of its intricate routes and hidden paths, and making it feel the same at a completely different scale. This place was easy to do because it is a flat plane.

This is what I had hoped BDSP would be like. Cinematic reimagining, not just overly faithful square for square chibis. Imagine if you did Cyrus’ breakdown? Or him being pulled into the distortion world?

The fact that you can see your following Pokémon in the battle when they’re not fighting is so amazing and honestly, I wish that was in the actual game

ORAS was pretty good. Especially the delta episode. Lets pray Legends arceus is even more amazing than the trailer.

If anyone is to blame is gamefreak themselves, they Lost all Of the love and passion in their games and remakes, now they are cash grabs and "remakes" that should really be called remasters instead, because NOTHING gets added, actually, we don't have all Of platinum content, so it's an inferior version Of plat.
Pokemon platinum is literally a better remake than these games, and thats so fucking depressing.

The design for Mega Arceus here is fantastic, amazing work on the animation for Judgment and Hydro Pump, everything here was stunning.
THIS is the game I expected on a console like the switch since Pokemon battle revolution!!

One minor thing I loved was the Pokeball animation. It looks just like it did in the anime, which is amazing. The Pokeball animations in game are just the ball exploding to release the Pokemon. This looks so much cooler
Right, how the pokeball seemed to have suspended for a moment before releasing Palkia is damn cool. And how piplup hides behind Dawn but Dawn used Palkia to be their giant protector looks damn awesome HAHA
And also how it sounded as well. Just like the anime. Loved that

Really love how you used the movie's interpretation of Judgement, AKA the best and most epic interpretation, even with the bell sound and all!
I hope PLA has some epic Arceus moments too, maybe even something eerie like that Sinjoh ruins cutscene, and that Judgement's new animation will be epic there as well.
I wonder what stats would a mega arceus have.... lol I don't think it needs a mega.
I think the actual judgment animation idea came from the anime.

That mega arceus looks AMAZING. Its really clean and looks super cool, it’s not too over the top, but perfectly shows characteristics of a king or god. The gold coloring plus rainbow effect is so great. 10/10 dude.

This is exactly what Gamefreak & Nintendo need to be aiming towards for future Pokemon games. They literally have a license to print money, hundreds of talented devs, and still struggle to make anything look as good as this.
It's not about "struggling", and it's not about what Game Freak or Nintendo "needs" to do. If it's any consolation, Legends: Arceus is coming pretty close to this.
@@Mac14329 The Legends game is already looking disappointing and is very apparently going to fall under the same lazy design that all main line games GF make.
I think the biggest problem here is Nintendo itself. They pressure gamefreak to pump out Pokemon titles. I would gladly wait 5 years or so for another Pokemon title that is absolut high quality with actual Attack animations and not this bare bones shitshow they have right now.

@@vero343 Masuda was still at the helm of the project so they were following his design orders. Masuda, the man who thinks we're all too busy with mobile phones to play the Battle Frontier so he didn't include it in ORAS or BDSP.
And it's not like Legends Arceus will be much better, if Masuda's protégé Ohmori is leading that project for GameFreak. Remember how we all thought it was Open-World because they used similar sweeping landscape shots for the initial trailer, like it was "Pokémon: Breath of the Wild" edition? Well that game isn't Open-World like they seemingly promised either.
If the switch can handle 16 ice climbers in smash ultimate and breath of the wild, they can putt this in the game without question

ただ今言われてるのは納期が間に合わなかったとかアルセウスの前踏みだからクオリティが低く作られたとかそんな感じで言われてるからじっくり作れなかったんだと思うぞ

Sometimes, I really wonder how the final versions of game get made public when we have fans that create art to this level. It's clear that there's a lot of love for Pokemon behind this. Incredible work, honestly
time, the hardware or the switch and all sorts of limitations like budget, a fan doing this as a hobby could easily dump hours upon hours into this one scene alone, while it likely would cost too much as labor to the company
@@My1xT eh still doesn't excuse the richest media franchise of all time. They could easily make the best game of all time with the amount of money they make. As for time give it the same dev time as a zelda game. 4 to 5 years. Same man power ( 700 to 800 people) and you could blow 90 percent of games out of the water. That is Pokémon's true potential. Doesn't even need to be long. 40 hours to 100 percent it and maybe a 20 to 30 hour story
@@blanexblaze6510 sure, I am not saying that TPC could have put in more but I'd say Ilca had constraints (maybe even the chibi style was pre-set, no idea) but they made imo a really nice game, at least personally I havent seen so much attention to the faces yet with the faces changing mid-dialog and stuff, and for example mars seems like not just a villain but showing kinda a fire in her expression when she talks about battling you and stuff

I mean, Arceus' design is already the original and Mega Evolution as a concept is man-made. I really do agree that new forms for the 4 Pokémon gods is what everyone would've wanted. It's been the trend since XYZ/Omega Ruby&Alpha Sapphire, too bad that the 3rd developers weren't able/allowed to do it.

@@ek123159 It wasn't GF who did the remakes they outsourced it. This is a massive shame considering the BDSP are basically just the old games but ported to the switch without any of the Platinum improvements. I would've have killed to see and ORAS style reimagining of Sinnoh but alas the dreams of a Sinnoh Style Delta Episode was not to be.

Profitable is actually more often than not equivalent to mediocre and repetitive, here on earth. I think you didn't learn yet how capitalism works. All they care about is easy profit, ESPECIALLY when they're the leaders in the sector (that includes Nintendo in general by the way, it's always been 1 or 2 step away performance-wise from the competition because easy profit). Another example to this is Apple, from "oh my god we work hard from nothing and revolutionize the world" to "im kinda tired to work, i don't want to innovate or even care, just give me the money, oh and also let's monopolize the market so we ensure getting those money".
By the way you aren't exempt to this, which shows by you asking for a 15th remake of a pokemon game, rather than anything new even including the old stuff, like you know, a sequel, or a prequel. Who was asking for a new game? absolutely no one. And that's something that Gamefreak honestly is pretty solid with, it just gives the fandom what the fandom asks for. The fandom asked for obsolete DS games in HD, not even for Legends Arceus, we're already blessed that Gamefreak decided to make Legends Arceus anyway.

You only had one ILCA job, you had to use the graphics engine and the Sword and Shield graphic style, you just had to do that, nothing more, it was so difficult, good bunch of idiots, looking for the easiest and simplest

This is genuinely amazing. The way this feels like an actual game cutscene, with the animations beforehand, subtle glitch when walking into invisible wall, etc.

@@Yusei255 it really doesnt.. the point of a remake is to "bring back" an old game and refurnish it with newer technology, usually adding more content. even if gen 4 was already popular the remake never makes the original lose its value lmao, in this case I think it actually supports the original since you cant even catch arceus in the remake and its only a 1:1 port

That's the remake I wanted. This is absolutely incredible! I'm glad that I didn't buy BDSP, although Sinnoh is my favourite, but I think I have enough fun with Platinum.
Same bro, however I was considering on buying BDSP to play with my friend who was interested in having the game, therefore I allowed him to try play Pokémon Diamond on my 3DS to have a taste on what the champion will be like. He beat Cynthia first try, it took me a long time for me to beat her. I was shocked, I didn’t think he’d beat her in one shot without knowing who she really is. Now he doesn’t seem as interested in the game, so it’s now off my wants list.

@@Omega_Redstone She's not really even difficult, she might be tougher than the average champion ofc. But majority of the Pokemon in the sinnoh region have good stat spreads/moves/typings compared to previous regions, which closes the gap on difficulty. I still believe (in gen 2 especially) Lance was one of the harder champions, his team diversity was crap but he had 3.... Dragonites, most ice types were non existent in gen 2, not being much apart from lapras maybe that were useful
i bought it and i sincerely hope they release a platinum remake. seriously why did they actually remake DP when platinum became the definite gen4 experience T.T

@@theworld5881 BDSP is actually the game they put the most work into since Black and White imo. There's so much love and detail and it's finally a somewhat hard Pokémon game again. I was skeptical at first as well, but it's a really good game that only has minor issues and for the first time since Black and White I actually enjoyed the playthrough and didn't just rush through it to get to the fun part.

For the first time ever, the difficulty is insane for a Pokémon game, the Elite 4 + rematches are extremely difficult to beat because they have fully competitive sets, IVs and are EV trained. All the minor changes like Pokémon following you or the love put into each and every single battle background are just amazing. And even the grand underground alone is more of a (positive) change than any other remake has ever had including Fire Red and Leaf Green's Sevi islands.

The fact that Palkia was able to shoot Hydro Pump from it's mouth is just amazing (not from neck or some weird random areas)

Now make the animations work with every single Pokémon, make it be able to run on the switch smoothly

@@Tyreker you could atleast animate judgement the same, since its literally only arceus who can use it. Im not an animator or anything, but i feel like its not that hard to change the position of an attack like hydropump to make it look like it is shot from the pokemons mouth.

@@gamingblastoise7959 You are absolutely wrong about everything. ORAS was a 3D remakes that reimagined the Hoenn region, bringing it up to Gen 6 standards. And you also say that remakes NEVER have content from third versions?! Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver had ALL the content of Pokémon Crystal and MORE.
The reason why people want content from Platinum is because Diamond and Pearl were bad, slow, incomplete games. Even though Platinum didn’t fix everything, it was a VAST improvement. It improved the story, improved the gameplay, had more post-game content and so on. Remakes should be superior to the original games in every way. BDSP should not have attributes that are worse the Platinum, a game that’s almost two decades old.
You bring up Zelda, but that’s a bad example because Ocarina of Time and Majoras Mask are TWO DIFFERENT GAMES, while Platinum is the DEFINITIVE THIRD COMPLETE VERSION of Diamond and Pearl. No one got mad at Link’s awakening because Zelda, unlike Pokémon doesn’t have a track record of remakes like Pokémon does. Remakes like FRLG, HGSS and ORAS set a bar for remakes that BDSP failed to reach. Meanwhile look at FF7 Remake, that game is exactly what Pokémon fans wanted, bringing an old game up to MODERN STANDARDS. Which is what Pokémon has always done. FRLG looked like Emerald, HGSS looked like Platinum, ORAS looked like X&Y….but then with Let’s Go things went back in time, and BDSP put the final nail in the regression coffin. BDSP is literally the same game but in 3D, no different style, no extra story, no extra content, no Gen 8 compatibility, no reimagining, no new forms, nothing that makes it better than Platinum other than a few QOL “improvements” that are actually detrimental like the affection system that makes the overrated post-game rematches a cakewalk. Cynthia isn’t a challenge when the power of friendship makes my Bidoff survive earthquake.
Stop branding “criticism” as whining and complaining. Game Freak and ILCA aren’t gonna find you, congratulate you and give you a Medal of Honor. Mediocrity isn’t an acceptable standard. If you go to a restaurant, ask for a steak and they burned it to a crisp, you shouldn’t be grateful that “well at least you got a steak and it’s edible!” No, you payed money as the consumer, you deserve something above the bare minimum. The same goes for Pokémon. Have a good day.
@@gamingblastoise7959 I don’t mind the long replies, after all mine was lengthy as well lol. I agree with you that previous remakes didn’t fix much from the originals. Some even left out content like ORAS leaving out the Battle Frontier, but it still made up with new feature from the Gen it was from. Yeah ORAS was still top-down, but it played like a Gen 6 game. It looked like X&Y. It had the PSS, it had Megas, it had the same overworld models and style. BDSP are the only remakes that don’t match the generation that it’s from. BDSP don’t look like Sword and Shield. A lot of people were disappointed, because even though SWSH had bad optimization, it was a step closer to the “open-world” Pokémon game people envisioned for quite a long time. Pokémon games like Stadium, Colosseum and even Pokken showed how Pokémon could look in a proper console game. We see this in Legends Arceus how people expected BDSP to look. Remakes, although not perfect always, brought every old game up to standard with whatever main title was out at the time, that was the point I was trying to make. BDSP are like a step backwards to 2006. It hasn’t evolved to look or play like a Pokémon game in 2021. It’s not all bad, but it’s not even a sidegrade to the original. Also sorry if I came off as angry in my original reply, that’s just how I type lol.

This is the most glorious thing I’ve ever seen in my life! No seriously. I have completely imagined a Diamond and pearl reimagining of this scene and what the DP remakes could have looked like, and I kept imagining it with SW/SH graphics or a life like design. This right here, was nailed on the head! I couldn’t have ever believed something like this was created and truly done in such an astronomical level of detail and animation, it truly deserves several million views. And here we are, this clip, it happened! Excellent job and effort!! Hope to see more in the future!😍😍😍😍

Apart from everything else being absolutely sublime, I just want to gush over the camerawork during the battle. I know it’s a weird detail to get excited over but it was very dynamic with how it shook as it moved (unlike the static camera pans in the official games), very reminiscent of Colosseum/XD/PBR which had highly immersive camera work. Great job! Plus the little effects of the Creation Pokémon having a glow about them was lovely.
Also my jaw dropped at Mega Arceus, I was absolutely not prepared.
Isn't the camerawork just the same as the main games since X/Y with the dynamic movement?
@@josuegarro5437 No, there’s a very distinct difference between the two. PBR and other Colosseum games used cameras that would shake as they panned or moved like they were not anchored, while the X and Y cameras very robotically move like they’re on a set path.
My jaw dropped when I saw Arceus mega evolve. Why this was not the actual Diamond/Pearl remake gameplay baffles me, it's superior to the remake BDSP in every way. Don't stop making amazing videos like this, you are incredibly talented.

I'm amazed. The cinematography is simply outstanding. Being 100% honest, GameFreak (as much as I love them) REALLY missed out on doing the remakes like this.
They didn't miss out; they made a metric fuck load of money and that's all they care about at the end of the day

To to add a bit of info to this comment: game freak actually didn’t make the remakes of BD&SP ILCA did because game freak was (and is) focusing on Pokémon Arcues for next years release
BDSP production was outsourced to ILCA, while Game Freak solely focused on Pokemon Legends.

I’m very hyped about the Arceus game don’t get me wrong, it just took so long and this video example of what could be still looks better.

Honestly, Arceus final form should be what it looked like in the Beta, only.... much.... MUCH bigger. Imagine you're out there on the top of the world almost reaching space and then Arceus disappears for a moment and you wonder what's going on.
Then you see it. A gargantuan shadow from above, bigger than anything you could ever imagine, encompassing the entire sky, blocking out all stars.... and then you see a single eye open.

god, i love this so much. I'm so mad that we were basically robbed of something as incredible as this. I really like that you included Arceus mega evolving because it shows its intelligence, since wild pokemon wouldn't know how to use mega evolution if they had it on their own, or at least I dont think they would LMAO
I'd really want a Pokémon game like this but developing a game that looks like this in a world that big would take around 2-3 years to complete. I hope we do eventually get something like it but It'd have to be given time for sure.
Good news though is that with the looks of Legends: Arceus, it would appear they're headed that way. Not to mention that they most likely have already started on gen 9
I think it'll fry the Switch if something of this quality is played in it lol. It would take a group of geniuses to fit something like this into a game in the first place.

This is actually unbelievable. Everything about this is f- amazing.
I think my only nitpick is the ending has no good buildup. Throwing a Dusk Ball and catching it for example. It would have been neat if the battle ended with a close cinematic of Arceus powering down and grants Dawn the ability to summon Arceus as an ally in battle. Seeing that it's a God, it wouldn't make sense to capture it. Of course it is just a video game, and the trainer can theoretically capture every Legendary ever. I just think it as a concept it would be close to how Pokémon follow you outside of pokeballs.

@@lorenzopiscosi9566 I'm talking about the stilistic choices, not how well those choices are implemented. Belive it or not there's a bunch of actually really neat concept art behind legends Arceus. Again, not trying to argue the game looks good by any means, it's a technical fact it doesen't, but the art direction they tried to aproach is solid.

This is fantastic. The one thing I always thought Pokémon was missing though was actual realistic cries, so that they sound like actual creatures. I feel that’s the main thing that’s holding the Pokémon back from being more life-like for me. Would be a cherry on top for this quality of work

@@eeveeofalltrades4780 It's not that it's "impossible", but you aren't wrong that it is impossible for GameFreak. GameFreak are simply sheeps that must follow their higher-ups (Creatures Inc/Pokémon company, Nintendo, ect.) and they have extremely strict deadlines. Research shows these deadlines have been becoming increasingly more strict despite the fact that the games GameFreak are now having to make should be getting far more development time then Pokémon games of the past. These strict deadlines are to ensure new games are made on a regular basis, ensuring more merchandise can be made, which is the main income the Pokémon franchise makes. It's extremely surprising that we are even getting Legends, because just a little while ago one of the Higher-ups at GameFreak said he was doubtful anything similar to what Legends is would be made, and look what had to happen to even bring the possibility. The DP remakes had to be given to different developers to even allow the possibility of Legends being made, so frankly as much as it is disappointing we have to give credit to GameFreak cause they are trying to evolve even when it's become extremely challenging for them to do so.
Basically if we fused Legends Arceus with Diamond and Pearl.
Aaaaand now I want to cry. I may be happy with BDSP, but this is so cool!
